GIFTS FOR HEALING!   >>
NO, THE KING REPLIED…I CANNOT TAKE WHAT IS YOURS AND GIVE IT TO THE LORD. I WILL NOT OFFER A BURNT OFFERING THAT HAS COST ME NOTHING! I Chron. 21:24 TLB

There is a tragic story in the Bible that may be yet another key to your healing or to the healing of someone you love.

King David had finally conquered and subdued virtually all of the enemies of Israel and was very happy and evidently very proud of his achievement. By the way, we should all beware lest we ever feel we have "made it" and relax our spiritual guard! This life is one long battle with many trials and tribulations, but also with many joys and great victories! The best news is simply THE FINAL VICTORY IS ASSURED! Praise the Lord!

The story of King David is an example of the spiritual dangers we all must guard against. The tragedy begins as follows:

"THEN SATAN BROUGHT DISASTER UPON ISRAEL, FOR HE MADE DAVID DECIDE TO TAKE A CENSUS." I Chron. 21:1 TLB

Exactly why this taking of a census of the nation of Israel was a serious sin for David is unclear. Most of the Bible commentators feel that pride had entered the king's heart and that he wanted to show the world that he and Israel were the greatest on earth! Whatever the reason, his decision greatly displeased the Lord! Even Joab, his military leader and the other leaders, tried to talk the king out of this census, but to no avail. David commanded and it was done.

Finally God sent David's personal prophet, Gad, to tell him that God's judgement was on the way! He was given three choices: (1) three years of famine; (2) three months of defeat by his enemies; or (3) three days of deadly plague upon the nation. David choose the latter and the record tells that 70,000 men died as a result of the plague! Finally, when David saw the angel of the Lord with sword drawn, ready to destroy Jerusalem, he and the elders fell to the ground and cried out to the Lord for mercy. David said:

"I AM THE ONE WHO SINNED…BUT WHAT HAVE THESE SHEEP DONE? O LORD MY GOD, DESTROY ME AND MY FAMILY, BUT DO NOT DESTROY YOUR PEOPLE." I Chron. 21:17 TLB

Now right here just may be the KEY to your healing or your need.

First, let's make it clear that sickness or other needs are not always because we have sinned! We have all inherited these mortal bodies from Adam and they get sick for many different reasons, but this plague on Israel was most clearly because of sin!

So what was the key to David's healing and the healing of Israel?

The Lord sent the prophet Gad to tell David to go and build an altar to and to make an offering unto the Lord.

Now, once again, I can hear the howls of the critics and all the heresy hunters! "Crouch is teaching, once again, that we can buy our healing, or our blessings, or our desires from the Lord!" Oh, that for once they would shut their mouths and hear a word from the Lord!

As I studied this principle of bringing offerings to the house or the work of the Lord, this truth came to me clearly from the Holy Spirit. NO! You can never buy or purchase a favor from God — let that truth be forever settled in our minds and hearts!

So why then did God require numerous offerings from His people? Virtually every feast, festival, or celebration required a specific offering from the people of God for the Temple and other causes. Some to help the poor, the fatherless and widows, etc.

Here it is — when you want someone's attention you offer a gift. Even today when you want that beautiful girl to be your wife, what do you do? Can you even imagine proposing to her without that diamond in your pocket? I told you once before how I fell hopelessly in love with a little 98 pound Georgia girl in that — ah, that red dress! Believe me, every date I brought a gift to the one I loved! Even you businessmen know that when you want to close the deal — a gift is often the key.

As we have taught often from Exodus 34, God actually commanded His people every time they entered the Temple:

"AND NO ONE SHALL APPEAR BEFORE ME WITHOUT A GIFT." Ex. 34:20 TLB

Here is the bottom line: When we bring a gift it simply gets the attention of God, or whomever the gift is presented to, and says: "I AM SERIOUS ABOUT THIS REQUEST!"

Of course, as I said, the Bible teaches about many different kinds of gifts and for many different purposes: the tithe; peace offerings; trespass offerings, as in David's case; thank you offerings, and on and on. But in some cases there was simply — "GOD I HAVE A NEED OFFERING."

Solomon needed money and materials to build the Temple (II Chronicles 1:5-7); Naaman the leper brought many offerings to the prophet Elisha, which he did not accept, but when Naaman followed the prophet's instruction, he was healed! Finally, in King David's case, he obeyed the word of the Lord through the prophet Gad. David bought the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, built an altar and offered an offering to the Lord and the plague was stopped. Actually, Ornan offered to give David the property, his animals and wood for the burnt offering, but as our theme verse makes clear — King David refused and paid him the full price for everything saying:

"I WILL NOT OFFER A BURNT OFFERING THAT HAS COST ME NOTHING!" I Chron. 21:24TLB

The story goes on to say:

"WHEN DAVID SAW THAT THE LORD ANSWERED HIS PLEA, HE SACRIFICED TO HIM AGAIN!"I Chron. 21:28 TLB

Obviously a thank you offering!

Of course, the critics will say all of this is "Old Testament" and now Christ has delivered us from the Law. If that is true, how do we deal with the leper who Jesus healed in Matthew chapter 8? After healing him Jesus said:

"GO THY WAY, SHOW THYSELF TO THE PRIEST AND OFFER THE GIFT THAT MOSES COMMANDED, FOR A TESTIMONY UNTO THEM." Matt. 8:4

Or, how about the centurion's servant that was dying? When the elders of the Jews besought Jesus to heal him they said: "HE IS WORTHY… FOR HE LOVETH OUR NATION, AND HATH BUILT US A SYNAGOGUE." Luke 7:4-5

The very next verse says, "Then Jesus went with them." And, as we know, He healed the servant.

Ah, dear Partners — are there "GIFTS FOR HEALING"? I believe more and more that every good thing we receive begins with a gift — EXCEPT OUR SALVATION! The old hymn says it best:

"NOTHING IN MY HAND I BRING, SIMPLY TO THE CROSS I CLING…."

Let's all bring our gifts to the Lord the week of our next great Praise-a-Thon® — NOVEMBER 3 THRU 7

Jan and company from Atlanta; Paul and company from California. The whole family of singers and ministers will lift us all into heavenly places!

Make or renew your gift to God expecting the answer to your need.

Pastor Igor Nikitin and I stood in front of a statue of Lenin in St. Petersburg, Russia. Where there was once revolution, there is now REVIVAL!

Two of the greatest healing ministers of our time—Pastor Benny Hinn and Dr. Oral Roberts—joined with Jan and me for a time of prayer. Praise the Lord—Jan is HEALED in Jesus' Name! YOU are healed, too! Claim God's promise in Isaiah 53:5.

While I was in St. Petersburg, I had the joy to meet with Valery Rukovichkin, director of Life TV, a TBN affiliate in Tallinn, Estonia.

Pastor Igor served as my interpreter during an interview with Vasily Kuzin, pastor of a 10,000 member church in the former Soviet Republic nation of Kyrgyzstan. The Holy Spirit is doing a mighty work in this mostly Moslem nation! TBN is now on 220 TV stations throughout Russia—praise the Lord!

"I will come by you into Spain." We received a warm welcome from the staff of Channel 26, TBN's beautiful station in Madrid, Spain.

I'm standing in front of one of the monitors at Ch. 26 in Madrid. Our Madrid station receives all four TBN networks: TBN, TBN Enlace, The Church Channel and JC-TV and sends them to cable systems and direct-to-home satellite receivers throughout Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
