Jan was a special guest of President René Préval at his inauguration. Dignitaries from all over the world were in attendance. Jan met with President Préval at his home in Port-au-Prince. After a wonderful interview, the President looked into the camera and said to the American people, “Please help Haiti in Jesus’ name. We are very poor people.”
To coincide with President Préval’s inauguration, Jan and Smile of a Child, along with Don and Sondra Tipton of Friend Ships, sent TWO cargo ships to Haiti filled with food, medical equipment, medicines, clothing, and
thousands of toys. Also on board was a huge generator for the new hospital being built in Haiti by Smile of a Child. An important Haitian representative from the President’s office viewed the two loaded ships and the Smile of a Child
hospital by helicopter and called President Préval to report on the miracle she saw.
Jan was warmly greeted by President Préval at their
informal meeting held in his home.
Jan was delighted to show the President a book about
TBN.
Mrs. Maryse P. Kedar, a very important lady in Haiti,
and friend of the President, looked on as Jan presented
a battery operated DVD TV as a gift to His Excellency
from Smile of a Child.
Jan was delighted to have a group of children from
the Grace Village Orphanage join her for a picture in
front of the Smile of a Child hospital—now about 80
percent complete!
