"THESE ARE THE BLESSINGS!"
The blessings of God -- how we love them! We love to talk about them and testify to the world about them! What a joy to know that our sins are forgiven -- that our home awaits us in heaven! Sing it Mike --"Heaven's sounding sweeter all the time!" What a joy to have a measure of good health. For some of us, the knowledge that our children and our loved ones are all saved and in the Kingdom, working for the Lord -- oh, what joy, what peace this brings! To have a good job, to have a home, plenty of good things to eat, a little saved up for a rainy day or retirement -- how do we put a price or value on these things -- THESE BLESSINGS?
So, are these wonderful benefits automatic? Do they just COME to us simply because we have chosen to accept Jesus and follow Him as a child of God? Well, YES and NO.
Once again, I see the antennas of the "heretic hunters" go up! "Crouch is preaching that we have to buy our blessings. There he goes again -- after the money! Burn him at the stake -- AGAIN!" Before you do, please grant me one favor. For the next few minutes, take all the angry, negative words you have heard about the so-called "PROSPERITY GOSPEL," and lay them aside -- just till the end of this letter. Together, let's take a fresh look at the Word of God. Remember, our theme scripture:
"IF YOU FULLY OBEY ALL OF THESE COMMANDMENTS, THESE ARE THE BLESSINGS..." Deuteronomy 28:1, 2 TLB
Well, we are all pretty familiar with the big TEN:
"Thou shall have no other gods, not kill, steal, lie,"
etc. All well and good, but the Ten Commandments are but
a condensation of much of the first five books of the Bible,
Genesis through Deuteronomy, also called the Pentateuch,
or the books of Moses. There are laws concerning health and sanitation;
laws about what to eat and not to eat; laws on what to do if
sickness strikes; laws on family relationships, and on and on.
But there are also laws on finances -- giving of offerings
and receiving of BLESSINGS!
"THE OFFERINGS WHICH YOU BURN ON THE ALTAR FOR ME ARE MY FOOD, AND ARE A PLEASURE TO ME..." Numbers 28:2 TLB
WOW! Let's let that sink in for a few minutes! We are not giving to a church, a ministry or a person -- WE ARE GIVING TO GOD -- FOR HIS FOOD. Again and again throughout this passage the Lord says: "They will bring Him MUCH pleasure!"
So, what were these offerings the people of God were commanded to bring? Read it in Numbers 28 and 29: Lambs, bulls, rams, and goats for a sin offering; fine flour mixed with pure oil; wine for a drink offering, and on and on. It would take more space than I have here to describe the many feasts, festivals, holy convocations, and sabbaths that God spells out as COMMANDMENTS to His people. And every one had a carefully specified offering as a part of it.
Now, let's clear one thing up right now: While the Word says these offerings were "MY FOOD," did God come down, take knife and fork and eat these offerings? Of course not. The food and other offerings were for the Tabernacle and later the Temple of God. They supported the priests and the Levites and all who did service in the House of God. You see, God was raising up a nation, a people, who were to be the witness of God Himself to all the heathen nations of the world. Israel and the House of God were HIS "television network" of that day to the world! Praise the Lord! Now we are getting into our territory -- a Voice to proclaim God's glory, righteousness, and plan of salvation to the whole wide world!
So, God's "FOOD" was to see that His great plan to save and redeem the world back to Himself was provided for -- THROUGH THE PEOPLE'S OFFERINGS TO HIS HOUSE!
Now, as I have said so often -- FOR THE REST OF THE STORY! Remember, again, our theme scripture:
"IF YOU FULLY OBEY ALL OF THESE COMMANDMENTS" Then what?
"THESE ARE THE BLESSINGS THAT WILL COME UPON YOU" Deuteronomy 28:1,2 TLB
Now, we are back in familiar territory. We love to read about: "Blessings in the city, blessings in the field, many children, ample crops, large herds and flocks, blessings of fruit and bread, blessings coming in and going out, the defeat of all our enemies, good crops, healthy cattle" -- on and on! Glory, hallelujah! Praise the Lord! And He concludes this passage with this awesome promise:
Well, what are you waiting for? Somebody start a Jericho March let's have a Hallelujah break down let's swing from the chandelier! If only He had left the big IF out of verse one:
So -- are you being blessed? Praise God, many of us are! Thank you, Jesus! If not, let's check up on the Commandments. Am I eating good wholesome food, or fast junk food? Are my loved ones saved and in the Kingdom? Are my needs met? Do I have a good job? Are my life goals coming to pass? HAVE I GIVEN MY OFFERINGS TO THE HOUSE OF GOD?
Many years ago I read a poem, "IF JESUS CAME TO YOUR HOUSE." I can't remember the exact verse, but the thought was: "Would you serve Him your best food; would you give Him the best room and bed; would you offer HIM the very BEST you had to give?" What a silly question -- of course, we would! So, how about right NOW? Is this great VOICE called TBN the very best it could be? If everyone gave to TBN just as I do -- would it be what God desires and expects it to be? Will we finish His witness to the nations, if everyone gives just as I do? Israel failed! They did not reach to any great degree the heathen nations of their day. Yes, the godly line of David brought forth the Saviour -- Jesus. All praise be to God most High! But, by and large, they failed to convince their world and nations of the one true and living God.
Dear Partners -- we stand near the end of all things. What will history, the judgement seat, reveal to us and our final generation? Yes, our satellite footprint now covers the world! Praise God! About 1400 stations bring the Gospel into homes. Anointed programs are bringing multitudes into the Kingdom every day. Oh what blessings many are receiving for their offerings and gifts of love. But our job is only half done. Over half of the world has not even heard the name -- Jesus! So do you want HIS blessings? You can have them --
