Holiday Double-Header "The Greatest Story Ever Told" and "The Gospel of John" Airs on TBN This Thanksgiving

2006-11-21 -- (Los Angeles, CA) -- In keeping with the tradition of treating spirituality as a normal part of daily life, Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) will be airing two faith-based family friendly films on Thanksgiving, starting with the critically acclaimed modern classic "The Gospel of John" narrated by Christopher Plummer at 2:00 p.m. (PST) followed by the classic biblical epic "The Greatest Story Ever Told" starring Max von Sydow at 7:00 pm (PST).

The Gospel of John, considered by many to be the best-loved of the four Gospels, comes vividly to life in this faithful and powerful film dramatization. “THE GOSPEL OF JOHN” is an accurate Biblical account of the life of Jesus Christ as told by the apostle John and narrated by the internationally acclaimed Canadian actor Christopher Plummer, a veteran of over 80 motion pictures.
Plummer, no stranger to the genre of Biblical cinema, says he welcomed the opportunity to participate in the word-for-word version of “THE GOSPEL OF JOHN” as the film’s narrator. According to Plummer, he was absolutely riveted to the story in the film. “For many, it’s part of their childhood, yet for the first time it seemed totally fresh and new to me,” relates Plummer.
“THE GOSPEL OF JOHN” features 75 principle actors and over 2,000 extra’s and hosts such notable talent as “Henry Ian Cusick” in the lead role as Jesus Christ. Cusick. who brings a uniquely touching and human portrayal of Jesus Christ to the screen in “THE GOSPEL OF JOHN,” was born in Peru, raised in Trinidad and Scotland, and now resides in England with his wife Annie and their three boys - Elias, Lucas and Esau. The film also stars Daniel Kash as Simon Peter; Stephen Russell as Pontius Pilate and Scott Handy in the role of John the Baptist.
“THE GOSPEL OF JOHN” was produced by Visual Bible International Inc. in association with Garth H. Drabinsky and Joel Michaels. The film was directed by Philip Saville and adapted for the screen by screenwriter John Goldsmith. “THE GOSPEL OF JOHN” musical score was created by composer Jeff Danna and Nicholas Dodd, the orchestrator and conductor and features a variety of ancient musical instruments that originated more than 2,000 years ago, including the Shofar (ram’s horn).

This monumental classic adaptation of the story of Jesus Christ, starring Max von Sydow in the title role as Christ, concentrates on the most familiar episodes of the biblical story, including the birth of Christ in Bethlehem, Herod’s (Jose Ferrer) decree of the execution of all male children in Judea, and the Holy family’s escape into Egypt. It continues as Christ encounters John the Baptist (Charlton Heston), searches for the Twelve Apostles, and raises Lazarus (Michael Tolan), and the execution of John the Baptist. It concludes with Jesus’ expulsion of the moneylenders from the temple, the instruction of the Apostles at the Last Supper, Christ’s betrayal by Judas (David McCallum), the Passion, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection.
The Greatest Story Ever Told features a superb supporting cast including Dorothy McGuire (Mary), Sidney Poitier (Simon of Cyrene), Claude Rains (Herod the Great), Donald Pleasence (The Devil), Martin Landau (Caiaphas), and Janet Margolin (Mary of Bethany).
