Major Market TV Stations Helping TBN Reach More Than 100 Million Homes Across America

LOS ANGELES (May 30, 2014) — It all began forty-one years ago as Christian broadcast pioneers Paul and Jan Crouch flipped the switch on May 28, 1973, launching the Trinity Broadcasting Network with one part-time, low-power station in Southern California. In the decades since, America's favorite faith-and-family network has expanded to over 100 millions homes across America — not only via 8,000 cable and satellite affiliates, but also through the network's 37 unique, full-power local stations that broadcast 24 hours a day in America's top television markets.

In fact, one recent independent study found that TBN's 37 digital broadcast stations are the most of any religious broadcaster in the nation. TBN Vice President Matthew Crouch noted that the network's strong over-the-air presence represents an integral part of the strategy pursued by TBN's founder, the late Paul Crouch. “Even as the cable revolution stormed across America in the 1970s and '80s,” said Mr. Crouch, “my father realized that millions of individuals and families would continue to rely on classic over-the-air television. And over the years he made sure that those viewers — and their communities — would have access to the wholesome, inspirational programming that is TBN's hallmark.”

Dr. Crouch's commitment to a local Christian television presence across America can be seen today through full-power TV stations in such major metropolitan areas as New York City, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Dallas, Phoenix, and Denver, as well as in smaller communities like Richmond, Indiana, Harlingen, Texas, Canton, Ohio, Memphis, Tennessee, and Ft. Pierce, Florida, to name just a few.

In addition to multicasting TBN's top faith-and-family networks 24 hours a day, each of the 37 full-power stations has its own studio, producing dynamic local ministry and community affairs programs, as well as a local version of TBN's award-winning Praise the Lord music and talk show. A handful of stations in venues like Nashville, Orlando, New York City, Dallas, and a few other cities also have state-of-the-art studio facilities that produce national — and international — programming for TBN.

Longtime TBN attorney and FCC expert Colby May said that the network's strong local presence across America through its 37 full-power stations, in addition to its 27 international networks and affiliates on every inhabited continent, represent the unending determination of TBN's founder to cover the earth with a consistent, faithful representation of the gospel through television broadcast. “Dr. Crouch's greatest legacy may be his unique approach to his mission,” said Mr. May. “With faith and passion he embraced every trend and tool he felt would help TBN reach the world with the gospel message. The result today is that over one billion individuals and families across the earth have access to life-changing Christian programming 24 hours a day. I think that success is unprecedented.”

Matthew Crouch recalled that his father never stopped emphasizing that the one purpose of TBN is to win souls for the kingdom of God. “The tens of millions of people who have come to Christ through TBN over the past forty-one years are powerful confirmation of God's blessing over the undying commitment my parents had to be faithful to the vision,” he said. “It is that commitment and vision that continue to guide all we do at TBN.”
