TBN's - Smile Of A Child TV - Stands Out Among Emerging Children and Youth Niche Networks

March 1, 2011 (Los Angeles) - They're the foundation of today's television broadcast landscape, the nearly unlimited array of "emerging" or niche networks that run the broad spectrum of channel lineups across America. Over the past ten years scores of special-interest channels have popped up on cable and satellite channel offerings to meet an ever-growing demand from discriminating viewers from all walks of life. And among the most requested niche networks have been faith and inspirational channels.

It's little wonder, then, that Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), the world's premier religious broadcaster and America's sixth largest broadcast group, has consistently garnered some of the highest viewer ratings for its faith-and-family channels, with the latest study from Beta Research showing special viewer interest for two of TBN's most popular channels, Smile of a Child kid's network and the JCTV network for teens and young adults.

"Over the past nearly forty years, we've made it our focus at TBN to offer the best in faith and inspirational programming to the entire family," said Paul Crouch Jr., TBN's Chief of Staff. "A few years ago, as parents were expressing their concern over the lack of appropriate programming and channels for their children, TBN responded by launching Smile of a Child and JCTV, and since then these two networks have consistently received high interest among active and potential cable and satellite subscribers."

In fact, the latest study from Beta Research shows that among emerging networks, both Smile of a Child and JCTV were highly rated and requested within some of the most important viewer demographics: women, adults age 18 to 49, and teens/young adults age 12 to 24.

"We're thrilled with the high interest were receiving among these viewer groups," said Bob Higley, TBN's Vice President for Cable and Satellite Relations. "By their nature niche networks focus their appeal on specific viewer segments, and this latest research shows us that both Smile of a Child and JCTV are receiving high interest from the types of viewers we want to reach."

Higley noted, for example, that women have always comprised a loyal and consistent viewer segment for TBN's faith-and-family channels. "The fact that women are among those who most request our children's and teen channels tells us that there are a lot of moms and grandmothers who are savvy to what's playing on cable and satellite TV, and they want to make sure that the wholesome and positive programming from Smile of a Child and JCTV is available to their children and grandkids."

In ratings for niche channels, a few percentage points can make a huge difference in the numbers tuning in to a specific network. So TBN executives were excited to find that, according to the most recent Beta Research study, 18 percent of adults age 18 to 34 and 19 percent of teens expressed high interest in having JCTV as a part of their channel lineup. Similarly, 25 percent of adults with children expressed an interest in receiving Smile of a Child.

"Year after year, the findings we get from polling professionals like Beta Research confirm that among emerging or niche networks, both Smile of a Child and JCTV consistently perform at or near the top in viewer interest and appeal," said Higley. "And we think the reason for that has everything to do with the philosophy that drives what we do here at TBN. Every program we produce and air not only must meet high criteria for production and entertainment value. They must also be wholesome, family-friendly, and have the inspirational edge that has marked TBN's programming right from the beginning. That is what has made TBN the world's number-one faith and family network group, and why so many individuals and families tune in to us 24 hours every day."
