TBN to Host Memorial Day Premiere of New WWII Film

    The League of Grateful Sons’

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Memorial Day, May 29th Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) will host the world television premiere of The League of Grateful Sons, a new World War II documentary chronicling the journey sons and grandsons took to the black sands of Iwo Jima in honor of their fathers who fought there in 1945. TBN will broadcast the moving documentary May 29th at 7 p.m. PST.

In addition to the TBN broadcast, The League of Grateful Sons will be screened in communities across America on Memorial Day weekend as part of a campaign to recall the enormous sacrifice of the WWII generation.

“We desire to honor the faith of our WWII fathers before they are gone,” remarked Doug Phillips, executive producer of The League of Grateful Sons. “This message is at the heart of our film, and we are pleased that TBN is premiering this documentary to their viewers this Memorial Day.”

On March 12, 2005, Phillips journeyed with his two eldest sons to Iwo Jima for the 60th anniversary of the battle of Iwo Jima. With him came warriors who fought on the island, joined by their sons and grandsons. Other sons came whose fathers never left the volcanic ash during the bloody conflict with the Japanese in 1945. The League of Grateful Sons tells the stories of these men.

The movie was produced as part of the Faith of Our Fathers Project, an ongoing work of Vision Forum Ministries to tell the stories of the providence of God through the families that make up American history. Filmed on location on Iwo Jima, Texas, Hawaii, and Guam, and featuring an original score, the film premiered last October at the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival and is now being distributed on DVD through various retails outlets nationwide.

TBN founder and president Dr. Paul Crouch noted the importance of remembering the men and women who made defending America and keeping her strong during WWII their enduring legacy. “So many thousands died on the beaches of the Pacific, in the deserts of Africa, and on the battlefields of Europe,” he said. “So many more who survived are being taken from us day by day as the years take their toll. The League of Grateful Sons reminds us of our responsibility – and our privilege – to remember the sacrifice they made so that we could live as free Americans.”

Phillips said his prayer is that God would work in hearts wherever the film is shown over the Memorial Day Weekend, “whether that be on TBN, in a local church, or in a VFW hall. We pray that the old warriors will find hope in knowing that their stories will not die with them, and that younger generations will strive to carry on their legacy.”
