Celebrating Our Mothers, Our Military, and Neighborhood Superheroes.
Mother’s Day and Memorial Day will look a little different this year as some states gradually lift their shelter in place orders while other states remain sheltered in for a little while longer.
Our moms, our military troops, and our first responders are undoubtedly some of the most loving, self-sacrificial people that God has blessed us with. In their own imperfect ways, they demonstrate the strength of God’s love towards us. They’re superheroes!
Over these past few weeks, we’ve seen a new type of superhero emerge – some dressed in scrubs and lab coats; others in grocery store uniforms; and others driving 18-wheelers delivering food and keeping supply lines open across the nation. These superheroes keep us fed, they heal us, and they protect us from an invisible illness.
As we get ready to celebrate our moms and remember our troops this month, we acknowledge that our freedom and much of who we are as people are attributed largely to these selfless individuals.
Keeping that in mind, here are some amazing ways we’ve seen our community unite in that same spirit while demonstrating Christ’s love every single day in the midst of a global pandemic:
-
Many stores have set aside specialty hours designed to let the elderly, immuno-compromised, and other vulnerable members of society shop in a stress-free environment.
-
Restaurants are selling hard-to-find goods such as toilet paper, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, and other essentials.
-
Teachers are visiting students outside of their homes, helping them with assignments and offering reassurance.
-
Schools are celebrating graduating seniors by dropping off congratulatory lawn signs at students’ homes.
-
Health care workers such as doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, lab techs, hospital custodial staff, medical assistants, and others are literally laying down their lives for their neighbors (John 5:13).
-
Businesses are offering free how-to's, recipes, masks, and other goods and services to their communities and beyond.
-
First responders are celebrating children’s’ birthdays with signs and emergency vehicle parades around neighborhoods.
-
Churches big and small and around the world are shining God’s light, mobilizing within communities through extending the hands and feet of Jesus to those in need, and being much-needed voices of truth and encouragement. Many churches have adapted to new technology, live-streaming services online for the first time. Through these efforts, we’re seeing millions ‘attend’ church services - millions that otherwise would’ve never thought to step foot onto a physical church campus.
We’ve seen these and so many more God-given, unique stories, of how people have been caring for another during this pandemic. God has given you specific talents and gifts to bless others with. In what ways have you been caring for others during this pandemic? In what ways can others care for you?
If you need prayer or someone to talk to, we want to be that someone for you especially as we overcome this pandemic together. Call us at 1-714-731-1000 in the U.S. or 1-714-731-1000 (international). We’re here for you 24/7.
