Reframe Your Life's Work by Giving, Not Getting.
The first thing you notice upon meeting comedian Michael Jr. is that he’s got jokes. It’s impossible to not crack a smile when you’re around him. But in between the laughter is a large heart for God, and a relentless focus on helping make the world a better place...through comedy.
How can you make the world better through comedy, you might ask?
For Michael Jr., it boils down to this: reframe your life’s work as something you can give to the world, instead of making it something you get from the world.
To illustrate this point, Michael Jr. tells the story of an auto mechanic he met at one of his shows. At first, the mechanic thought of his work in terms of fixing other people’s cars. But after some reflection, he came to see his job in terms of “ensuring other people reach their destination.” That type of mentality shift becomes a motivation, a reason to get out of bed in the morning, and gives us a purpose.
The reason this mindset shift is so great is because it allows us to constantly give. Give of our talents (in service of our community), give of our time (to others), and most importantly, give all of the glory to God.
And as for Michael Jr., he’s busy giving laughter and hope to audiences each time he performs. And though the jokes are extremely funny, his message of giving versus getting is as serious as could be.
