A Christian Response to Coronavirus Disease 2019

Manifesting God’s Peace in Times of Crisis

In times of crisis and adversity, peace is a precious commodity, and no peace is more precious than the peace God gives us through His Son. In fact, when fear and uncertainty abound, as God’s people we ought to be a reservoir of His peace, a sanctuary where our family, friends, and others may turn for prayer, assurance, and encouragement.

The truth is that everyone is going to face adversity at some point in life, and having Christ as our center is crucial. Jesus tells us in John 16:33: “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” And in Ephesians 2:14, the apostle Paul takes this incredible encouragement one step further, telling us that not only does Christ bring us peace, but that “He Himself is our peace.”

So in light of this eternal truth, as believers we need to ask: “Am I manifesting the peace of Christ? Am I focusing my thoughts and attention on Him?” It’s an incredible encouragement to know that “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7).

Those three elements — power, love, and a sound mind — are central to walking in and manifesting the peace of Christ. Let’s take a few moments to dig down a little deeper into those words.

Power. The Word of God tells us that we can do “all things” through Christ who gives us His strength (Philippians 4:13). His strength empowers us to overcome all the situations and circumstances that we may face upon this earth — all in the Name of Jesus!

Love. The opposite of faith and peace is fear, and the Word of God tells us that there is no fear in the love God brings us through Christ because “perfect love casts out fear” (1 John 4:18). That love, and the peace that accompanies it, “surpasses all understanding” and “will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7).

A Sound Mind.

A sound mind is one that has been transformed and renewed by God’s Word (Romans 12:2). The person who has a mind that is being transformed and conformed to the image of Christ, is an individual who walks with confidence and authority — even in the midst of the most adverse circumstances.

With all of that in mind, I want to encourage you that God has equipped and empowered you to be an agent of His peace in a world where people are mostly gripped by fear. Just as Christ Himself stood among the waves on the Sea of Galilee and declared “Peace, be still,” God has equipped and empowered you to speak peace into situations and circumstances around you and in the lives of those you love.

Friend, the perfect love of Jesus in you will cast out fear, and bring peace as you lift up your voice and speak into the lives of others, speaking His Word and declaring His peace into situations.

God bless you and know that we are always here for you at TBN.

Be encouraged!
