  • 00:00:12.030 --> 00:00:16.280
  • Creflo Dollar: The loss of a parent is painful enough,
  • 00:00:16.290 --> 00:00:19.060
  • but losing a parent to random,
  • 00:00:19.070 --> 00:00:21.060
  • preventable violence is heartbreaking.
  • 00:00:21.070 --> 00:00:24.130
  • Today, we will be talking with a woman whose father was one of

  • Creflo: Through her pain of loss, this remarkable woman,
  • 00:01:14.190 --> 00:01:17.120
  • Rose Simmons, has since been living in grace
  • 00:01:17.130 --> 00:01:20.140
  • and forgiveness for the man who took away her father
  • 00:01:20.150 --> 00:01:24.000

  • 00:01:24.010 --> 00:01:26.200
  • Rose Simmons: There's only one thing in this world that can

  • overcome hate and that's love.
  • 00:01:29.230 --> 00:01:32.120
  • Creflo: Concerns for our safety have been growing
  • 00:01:32.130 --> 00:01:34.120
  • each year as we read yet another terrible headline
  • 00:01:34.130 --> 00:01:38.020
  • or watch a news report.
  • 00:01:38.030 --> 00:01:40.030
  • Do we live in fear and despair?
  • 00:01:40.040 --> 00:01:42.170
  • Today, you will learn how you can feel safe
  • 00:01:42.180 --> 00:01:46.020
  • in a seemingly unsafe world.
  • 00:01:46.030 --> 00:01:48.240
  • We welcome today an official in law enforcement whose 20-year
  • 00:01:48.250 --> 00:01:53.030
  • experience includes investigation,
  • 00:01:53.040 --> 00:01:54.270
  • patrol, SWAT, and special-ops.
  • 00:01:54.280 --> 00:01:57.050
  • He is here to make us better aware of these dangers and how
  • 00:01:57.060 --> 00:02:01.110
  • to spot trouble before it even starts and provide us with some
  • 00:02:01.120 --> 00:02:05.130
  • knowhow to protect our lives from the unthinkable.
  • 00:02:05.140 --> 00:02:09.200
  • I'm Creflo Dollar, and this is a program you do not want to miss,
  • 00:02:09.210 --> 00:02:14.180
  • right here on "Your World."
  • 00:02:14.190 --> 00:02:18.050
  • [audience applauding]
  • 00:02:18.060 --> 00:02:22.050
  • 00:02:22.060 --> 00:02:27.210
  • Changing one life, time after time,
  • 00:02:27.220 --> 00:02:31.270
  • oh Lord, we do it all for you.
  • 00:02:31.280 --> 00:02:36.190
  • Through the trials I see,
  • 00:02:36.200 --> 00:02:39.010
  • I'll always believe a new life starts with you.
  • 00:02:39.020 --> 00:02:45.110
  • Oh, change your world today,
  • 00:02:45.120 --> 00:02:50.080
  • change is gonna come your way.
  • 00:02:50.090 --> 00:02:54.200
  • Change and get an understanding,
  • 00:02:54.210 --> 00:02:59.060
  • his grace will transform you.
  • 00:02:59.070 --> 00:03:03.050
  • [audience applauding]
  • 00:03:03.060 --> 00:03:08.110
  • Creflo: Our guest today watched the news report on the
  • 00:03:08.120 --> 00:03:11.020
  • Charleston church shooting and prayed over the attacker and his
  • 00:03:11.030 --> 00:03:15.030
  • victims before she even know that her father was among those
  • 00:03:15.040 --> 00:03:19.150
  • who had been shot dead.
  • 00:03:19.160 --> 00:03:21.210
  • She is here today to talk about what happened four years
  • 00:03:21.220 --> 00:03:25.050
  • nearly to the day after this tragedy.
  • 00:03:25.060 --> 00:03:28.240
  • Would you please welcome Rose Simmons to "Your World" today?
  • 00:03:28.250 --> 00:03:32.160
  • [audience applauding]
  • 00:03:32.170 --> 00:03:41.130
  • Creflo: Hey, thank you so much for joining me today,
  • 00:03:41.140 --> 00:03:43.110
  • God bless you.
  • 00:03:43.120 --> 00:03:44.210
  • Rose: God bless you.
  • 00:03:44.220 --> 00:03:46.010
  • Creflo: I have the opportunity today to really dig
  • 00:03:46.020 --> 00:03:48.030
  • in and find out what was going on internally and emotionally
  • 00:03:48.040 --> 00:03:53.130
  • with some of the family who lost people.
  • 00:03:53.140 --> 00:03:56.200
  • And when I heard about it, I was blown away.
  • 00:03:56.210 --> 00:04:00.060
  • I just thought, "What in the world is going on?"
  • 00:04:00.070 --> 00:04:02.280
  • Craziest thing you would ever hear
  • 00:04:02.290 --> 00:04:04.180
  • that could happen in a church.
  • 00:04:04.190 --> 00:04:06.160
  • So, you and I are gonna come together and create an
  • 00:04:06.170 --> 00:04:09.060
  • instrument, and we call it "Your World"
  • 00:04:09.070 --> 00:04:11.070
  • because we want you to take us into your world.
  • 00:04:11.080 --> 00:04:14.200
  • So, let's go back a little bit.
  • 00:04:14.210 --> 00:04:16.130
  • You grew up in this church, right?
  • 00:04:16.140 --> 00:04:18.270
  • Rose: Well, actually, I grew up in the AME church.
  • 00:04:18.280 --> 00:04:21.140
  • Creflo: AME, I grew up in the AME,
  • 00:04:21.150 --> 00:04:24.060
  • that's African Methodist Episcopal.
  • 00:04:24.070 --> 00:04:27.120
  • And I grew up in the AME church aw well.
  • 00:04:27.130 --> 00:04:30.100
  • And so, your relationship with your father,
  • 00:04:30.110 --> 00:04:32.070
  • get me clear on all that.
  • 00:04:32.080 --> 00:04:33.230
  • Rose: Yes sir, born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina.
  • 00:04:33.240 --> 00:04:37.130
  • Moved to Virginia when I was about 22 years old.
  • 00:04:37.140 --> 00:04:40.290
  • To go back a little, my father started ministering
  • 00:04:41.000 --> 00:04:43.180
  • when I was 12 years old.
  • 00:04:43.190 --> 00:04:45.260
  • By the time I was 20, my parents were going through a divorce.
  • 00:04:45.270 --> 00:04:49.120
  • Tore the family apart, it was really a struggle, and we had
  • 00:04:49.130 --> 00:04:53.040
  • many years of not speaking, not talking,
  • 00:04:53.050 --> 00:04:57.040
  • just harboring a lot of ill feelings and unforgiveness.
  • 00:04:57.050 --> 00:05:02.000
  • And as the years went by, probably around in my 40s,
  • 00:05:02.010 --> 00:05:05.220
  • I remembered hearing the Holy Spirit say to me,
  • 00:05:05.230 --> 00:05:09.250
  • "You need to call your parents and talk with them."
  • 00:05:09.260 --> 00:05:13.000
  • So, I actually set my phone for nine o'clock every Saturday
  • 00:05:13.010 --> 00:05:16.240
  • to call my parents, to remind me to talk to them.
  • 00:05:16.250 --> 00:05:20.050
  • And to move on, I started a business, had a business,
  • 00:05:20.060 --> 00:05:22.250
  • everything was wonderful.
  • 00:05:22.260 --> 00:05:24.110
  • Took on a partner, and all of a sudden, I find myself in a
  • 00:05:24.120 --> 00:05:28.100
  • federal prison, which is where I was when my father was killed.
  • 00:05:28.110 --> 00:05:33.000
  • Creflo: The first time you heard about it--
  • 00:05:33.010 --> 00:05:34.100
  • Rose: The first time I heard about it, yes, sir.
  • 00:05:34.110 --> 00:05:35.240
  • Creflo: Was on the news.
  • 00:05:35.250 --> 00:05:37.040
  • Rose: Was on the news in federal prison.
  • 00:05:37.050 --> 00:05:41.060
  • Creflo: Now, had you reconciled with him before?
  • 00:05:41.070 --> 00:05:44.240
  • Rose: When I found out that I actually had to go to prison,
  • 00:05:44.250 --> 00:05:48.270
  • my father and I began a father-daughter relationship
  • 00:05:48.280 --> 00:05:55.160
  • that had been missing for more than 30 years.
  • 00:05:55.170 --> 00:05:59.180
  • I felt a presence come over me at that moment.
  • 00:05:59.190 --> 00:06:03.290
  • The forgiveness was overwhelming,
  • 00:06:04.000 --> 00:06:07.200
  • and I just felt the love of God in that.
  • 00:06:07.210 --> 00:06:11.220
  • As I was sitting in that prison, I was watching the television,
  • 00:06:11.230 --> 00:06:16.160
  • and I saw where there was a young man that had just brutally
  • 00:06:16.170 --> 00:06:22.010
  • murdered nine people.
  • 00:06:22.020 --> 00:06:24.010
  • female: On June 17, 2015, like many other Wednesday
  • 00:06:24.020 --> 00:06:28.050
  • nights, a group of people gathered for Bible study at
  • 00:06:28.060 --> 00:06:31.190
  • Charleston's Mother Emanuel AME Church, one of the largest,
  • 00:06:31.200 --> 00:06:36.080
  • oldest black congregations in the south.
  • 00:06:36.090 --> 00:06:39.210
  • Polly Shepherd: I stayed that night because my friend
  • 00:06:39.220 --> 00:06:41.200
  • was leading the Bible study, Myra Thompson,
  • 00:06:41.210 --> 00:06:44.200
  • and she asked me to stay.
  • 00:06:44.210 --> 00:06:46.170
  • Originally, I said I wasn't gonna stay.
  • 00:06:46.180 --> 00:06:49.140
  • female: Polly Shepherd was one of 12 members, part of this
  • 00:06:49.150 --> 00:06:52.110
  • devout group who welcomed a stranger into their worship,
  • 00:06:52.120 --> 00:06:56.280
  • a young white man who had never attended before.
  • 00:06:56.290 --> 00:07:00.110
  • Nearly an hour later, as they closed their eyes in prayer,
  • 00:07:00.120 --> 00:07:03.290
  • the man unloaded his gun.
  • 00:07:04.000 --> 00:07:06.090
  • female: Evil walked into the side door of your church.
  • 00:07:06.100 --> 00:07:10.040
  • Polly: I had faith, that's why I'm still here.
  • 00:07:10.050 --> 00:07:12.230
  • I prayed under that table and he left me here.
  • 00:07:12.240 --> 00:07:15.170
  • female: The gunman told Polly Shepherd he would let her live.
  • 00:07:15.180 --> 00:07:19.140
  • She was one of five people to survive
  • 00:07:19.150 --> 00:07:21.210
  • the massacre one year ago.
  • 00:07:21.220 --> 00:07:24.220
  • First responders rushed to the scene in mere minutes.
  • 00:07:24.230 --> 00:07:28.060
  • That's when Charleston police chief Gregory Mullen
  • 00:07:28.070 --> 00:07:31.030
  • got the call.
  • 00:07:31.040 --> 00:07:32.200
  • Rose: If someone can do something that horrific,
  • 00:07:32.210 --> 00:07:37.120
  • then they are lost, and they are without Christ.
  • 00:07:37.130 --> 00:07:39.180
  • They need a Savior.
  • 00:07:39.190 --> 00:07:41.170
  • And at that moment, in prison, I began to pray
  • 00:07:41.180 --> 00:07:45.150
  • for the perpetrator.
  • 00:07:45.160 --> 00:07:47.070
  • Ten minutes later, I heard my name called,
  • 00:07:47.080 --> 00:07:49.250
  • it was my counselors immediate, and they told me
  • 00:07:49.260 --> 00:07:53.240
  • that my father was one of those nine victims.
  • 00:07:53.250 --> 00:07:56.270
  • Creflo: Oh my, oh my.
  • 00:07:56.280 --> 00:07:58.190
  • Rose: At that time, I knew exactly what to do, and that was
  • 00:07:58.200 --> 00:08:03.170
  • to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit and heed to what he said.
  • 00:08:03.180 --> 00:08:08.150
  • At that moment, the Holy Spirit told me to go back to my room
  • 00:08:08.160 --> 00:08:13.090
  • and wait to be released.
  • 00:08:13.100 --> 00:08:15.120
  • And that's exactly what happened.
  • 00:08:15.130 --> 00:08:17.090
  • I was given a four-day furlough to travel to Charleston from
  • 00:08:17.100 --> 00:08:23.120
  • West Virginia, and I was there for my father's services.
  • 00:08:23.130 --> 00:08:28.010
  • And I had to go back, but ten days later, I was released,
  • 00:08:28.020 --> 00:08:32.120
  • my sentence was commuted.
  • 00:08:32.130 --> 00:08:34.120
  • It wasn't a challenge for me to forgive the young man,
  • 00:08:34.130 --> 00:08:38.260
  • and I don't think I have seen him wholeheartedly as a killer.
  • 00:08:38.270 --> 00:08:47.150
  • And I can qualify that, because of what the Lord
  • 00:08:47.160 --> 00:08:51.070
  • has done for me in my life.
  • 00:08:51.080 --> 00:08:53.290
  • I remember when I was married, and my ex-husband decided after
  • 00:08:54.000 --> 00:08:58.110
  • 18 years that he wanted to be with another woman.
  • 00:08:58.120 --> 00:09:03.060
  • I remembered when I was on the floor praying as we do, as
  • 00:09:03.070 --> 00:09:06.180
  • women, and when I did get off the floor, the Holy Spirit said,
  • 00:09:06.190 --> 00:09:10.240
  • "Hey, Rose, you forgot somebody."
  • 00:09:10.250 --> 00:09:13.050
  • And I didn't know who he was talking about, you know,
  • 00:09:13.060 --> 00:09:16.180
  • I went through my list.
  • 00:09:16.190 --> 00:09:18.080
  • Well, I prayed for everybody, he said, "No, you didn't pray
  • 00:09:18.090 --> 00:09:21.120
  • for the woman that ran off with your husband."
  • 00:09:21.130 --> 00:09:24.080
  • And I said, "Lord, I think you've gone too far, here."
  • 00:09:24.090 --> 00:09:27.220
  • Creflo: Yeah, Lord, what you doin' now, Lord?
  • 00:09:27.230 --> 00:09:29.110
  • Back up now, Jesus, ha, ha, ha.
  • 00:09:29.120 --> 00:09:34.140
  • Rose: And what he said to me was so specific, I remember it.
  • 00:09:34.150 --> 00:09:38.120
  • He says, "Rose, if you can't pray for her,
  • 00:09:38.130 --> 00:09:41.200
  • then you can't do the work that I've called you to do."
  • 00:09:41.210 --> 00:09:44.260
  • That means you will only pray for people you love and people
  • 00:09:44.270 --> 00:09:47.200
  • that love you, and you will never learn
  • 00:09:47.210 --> 00:09:49.210
  • how to pray for your enemies.
  • 00:09:49.220 --> 00:09:51.210
  • So, I got back on that floor, and I prayed for her
  • 00:09:51.220 --> 00:09:55.070
  • as if I was praying for myself.
  • 00:09:55.080 --> 00:09:57.230
  • That was one lesson.
  • 00:09:57.240 --> 00:09:59.210
  • For me, as I explained to people,
  • 00:09:59.220 --> 00:10:02.080
  • forgiveness is my independence.
  • 00:10:02.090 --> 00:10:04.180
  • It's my peace.
  • 00:10:04.190 --> 00:10:06.080
  • It is the reason why I wake up in the morning
  • 00:10:06.090 --> 00:10:09.230
  • and I don't have to remember to be angry.
  • 00:10:09.240 --> 00:10:12.290
  • I don't have to remember, "Oh, yes,
  • 00:10:13.000 --> 00:10:15.060
  • I can't be happy today because I gotta hate this person."
  • 00:10:15.070 --> 00:10:18.180
  • So, I see forgiveness as a road to freedom,
  • 00:10:18.190 --> 00:10:22.240
  • and I'm so proud of my dad.
  • 00:10:22.250 --> 00:10:25.080
  • I'm proud because people don't really know
  • 00:10:25.090 --> 00:10:29.170
  • what happened in that room.
  • 00:10:29.180 --> 00:10:32.050
  • There were nine victims and there were five survivors.
  • 00:10:32.060 --> 00:10:37.180
  • And as I've been told by the two adult survivors, that when the
  • 00:10:37.190 --> 00:10:41.230
  • shooting started, everyone ran for cover, but not my dad.
  • 00:10:41.240 --> 00:10:48.040
  • He leaped to his feet, and he ran towards the bullets to try
  • 00:10:48.050 --> 00:10:55.040
  • and save the people that were in that room.
  • 00:10:55.050 --> 00:10:59.100
  • And what he did was, he lived out that Scripture that says,
  • 00:10:59.110 --> 00:11:04.070
  • "There is no greater love than this, that a man lay down his
  • 00:11:04.080 --> 00:11:08.150
  • life for his friend."
  • 00:11:08.160 --> 00:11:10.070
  • Creflo: That's powerful, yeah, yeah.
  • 00:11:10.080 --> 00:11:15.190
  • Rose: And I have to say this, and I can say it to you,
  • 00:11:15.200 --> 00:11:17.280
  • Pastor Dollar.
  • 00:11:17.290 --> 00:11:19.080
  • If there was a checklist that God gave my father and asked
  • 00:11:19.090 --> 00:11:24.250
  • him, "How would you want to leave this world?"
  • 00:11:24.260 --> 00:11:28.130
  • and hero was on there in any form that it would come,
  • 00:11:28.140 --> 00:11:32.180
  • he would have checked that.
  • 00:11:32.190 --> 00:11:34.030
  • Creflo: I tell you what, he's a part of the Avengers, huh?
  • 00:11:34.040 --> 00:11:36.150
  • Ha, ha, he's part of the Avengers.
  • 00:11:36.160 --> 00:11:39.130
  • Listen, we're gonna take a very short break, and when we come
  • 00:11:39.140 --> 00:11:41.240
  • back, we'll be welcoming a law-enforcement official,
  • 00:11:41.250 --> 00:11:46.070
  • a 20-year veteran who trains churches
  • 00:11:46.080 --> 00:11:49.070
  • on active-shooter response.
  • 00:11:49.080 --> 00:11:51.200
  • Stay tuned to hear what we can do to be more vigilant and
  • 00:11:51.210 --> 00:11:55.250
  • protect ourselves from future tragedy, right after this.
  • 00:11:55.260 --> 00:11:59.100
  • [audience applauding]
  • 00:11:59.110 --> 00:12:06.290
  • Annsleigh: Look at all the people around us.
  • 00:12:07.220 --> 00:12:09.230
  • They're all so different, and yet, every one of us
  • 00:12:09.240 --> 00:12:12.010
  • is an image bearer of God.
  • 00:12:12.020 --> 00:12:14.010
  • Diversity is normal, it is necessary,
  • 00:12:14.020 --> 00:12:16.280
  • it's a cause for celebration.
  • 00:12:16.290 --> 00:12:19.090
  • Prejudice and discrimination, on the other hand, is corrosive.
  • 00:12:19.100 --> 00:12:22.290
  • It eats away at our communities and destroys our trust
  • 00:12:23.000 --> 00:12:26.140
  • and respect for one another.
  • 00:12:26.150 --> 00:12:29.060
  • Taffi Dollar: We are all entitled to the same
  • 00:12:29.070 --> 00:12:31.030
  • opportunities, rights, and privileges.
  • 00:12:31.040 --> 00:12:33.290
  • Visit TaffiDollar.org to support the mission.
  • 00:12:34.000 --> 00:12:36.260
  • [audience applauding]
  • 00:12:38.160 --> 00:12:42.120
  • Creflo: Our next guest is a law-enforcement official with a
  • 00:12:42.130 --> 00:12:45.110
  • background in SWAT and special operations who has trained
  • 00:12:45.120 --> 00:12:48.160
  • thousands of schools, healthcare, government,
  • 00:12:48.170 --> 00:12:51.250
  • and military personnel in intruder response.
  • 00:12:51.260 --> 00:12:54.210
  • Now, he's also the author of "The Church Security Handbook."
  • 00:12:54.220 --> 00:12:59.140
  • Ladies and gentlemen, please help me welcome Officer Baker
  • 00:12:59.150 --> 00:13:03.120
  • to the "Your World" show.
  • 00:13:03.130 --> 00:13:06.120
  • Vaughn Baker: Thank you.
  • 00:13:06.130 --> 00:13:08.120
  • Creflo: Now, she's got our hopes going.
  • 00:13:08.130 --> 00:13:10.270
  • We've seen, and we understand the amazing spiritual aspects
  • 00:13:10.280 --> 00:13:16.100
  • and the power of forgiveness.
  • 00:13:16.110 --> 00:13:18.210
  • Now, I'm gonna shift just a little bit,
  • 00:13:18.220 --> 00:13:20.090
  • and I wanna go to the practical.
  • 00:13:20.100 --> 00:13:22.130
  • Tell us a little bit about what you do and give us
  • 00:13:22.140 --> 00:13:25.200
  • some stats concerning church shootings.
  • 00:13:25.210 --> 00:13:28.100
  • I want the viewers to begin to look at
  • 00:13:28.110 --> 00:13:31.260
  • this a little differently.
  • 00:13:31.270 --> 00:13:33.270
  • To see that we're living in a different time right now.
  • 00:13:33.280 --> 00:13:36.280
  • There are different things that are happening,
  • 00:13:36.290 --> 00:13:38.250
  • and some of the things we can do in a practical sense
  • 00:13:38.260 --> 00:13:44.030
  • to see this thing before it actually hits.
  • 00:13:44.040 --> 00:13:46.230
  • Vaughn: Sure, well, thank you, Dr. Dollar.
  • 00:13:46.240 --> 00:13:48.030
  • You know, as far as statistically, it's more
  • 00:13:48.040 --> 00:13:49.260
  • dangerous in church than it's ever been.
  • 00:13:49.270 --> 00:13:53.170
  • Having said that, that doesn't mean that it's likely to occur.
  • 00:13:53.180 --> 00:13:57.060
  • In the last decade alone, we've lost--seen a 600% increase
  • 00:13:57.070 --> 00:14:00.260
  • in violent events in church.
  • 00:14:00.270 --> 00:14:03.020
  • Creflo: Six-hundred percent.
  • 00:14:03.030 --> 00:14:04.120
  • Vaughn: Six-hundred percent increase.
  • 00:14:04.130 --> 00:14:05.250
  • And the last four years in a row, we've set records with last
  • 00:14:05.260 --> 00:14:08.220
  • year, we had 261 violent events, whether it's firearm related,
  • 00:14:08.230 --> 00:14:14.260
  • one pastor and his secretary were suffocated in a robbery
  • 00:14:14.270 --> 00:14:18.070
  • and killed in Dallas, and we lost 108 lives
  • 00:14:18.080 --> 00:14:21.070
  • just last year in church.
  • 00:14:21.080 --> 00:14:22.230
  • Creflo: Do you have any idea the causes of what's going on
  • 00:14:22.240 --> 00:14:27.070
  • for this to begin to occur in churches as it has?
  • 00:14:27.080 --> 00:14:31.060
  • Vaughn: Well, if you look at motives, as far as statistics
  • 00:14:31.070 --> 00:14:33.100
  • are concerned, many of 'em are domestic violences
  • 00:14:33.110 --> 00:14:36.190
  • spilling into church.
  • 00:14:36.200 --> 00:14:38.160
  • A female that's gotten a protection order against
  • 00:14:38.170 --> 00:14:40.210
  • a significant other.
  • 00:14:40.220 --> 00:14:42.160
  • She's moved away from him, so he doesn't know,
  • 00:14:42.170 --> 00:14:44.080
  • and she can be safe.
  • 00:14:44.090 --> 00:14:45.210
  • He doesn't know where she lives, but guess what he does know?
  • 00:14:45.220 --> 00:14:47.280
  • He knows where she goes to church or where she works.
  • 00:14:47.290 --> 00:14:50.120
  • Other times, it's robbery related.
  • 00:14:50.130 --> 00:14:52.220
  • Many churches don't know this, 60% of these events are
  • 00:14:52.230 --> 00:14:55.210
  • happening during the week at church.
  • 00:14:55.220 --> 00:14:57.130
  • It's not just during services and special events, so it's not
  • 00:14:57.140 --> 00:15:00.180
  • just about putting a plan together for Sundays and
  • 00:15:00.190 --> 00:15:02.210
  • Wednesdays, it's about putting a plan together for staff
  • 00:15:02.220 --> 00:15:05.140
  • and volunteers during the week as well.
  • 00:15:05.150 --> 00:15:07.100
  • Creflo: This is so important to hear, because I guess
  • 00:15:07.110 --> 00:15:10.020
  • the least of a pastor's concern, I know 30 years ago,
  • 00:15:10.030 --> 00:15:15.060
  • almost 40 years I've been in the ministry, was not security.
  • 00:15:15.070 --> 00:15:18.280
  • You know, basically we plan for the Sunday services, and we had
  • 00:15:18.290 --> 00:15:23.090
  • little to no activity during church throughout the week.
  • 00:15:23.100 --> 00:15:27.120
  • And yet, it becomes a concern, it becomes a discussion amongst
  • 00:15:27.130 --> 00:15:30.160
  • our leadership of how to deal with this
  • 00:15:30.170 --> 00:15:32.210
  • and how to handle this.
  • 00:15:32.220 --> 00:15:34.020
  • So, lay a plan out for not just the larger churches, but church
  • 00:15:34.030 --> 00:15:39.000
  • as a whole, because the Charleston church, it wasn't,
  • 00:15:39.010 --> 00:15:41.110
  • like, 10.000 people in that church.
  • 00:15:41.120 --> 00:15:44.170
  • So, how do we lay out a plan to deal with churches of all size,
  • 00:15:44.180 --> 00:15:48.160
  • so that we can be prepared to see something like this coming
  • 00:15:48.170 --> 00:15:51.110
  • before it actually comes?
  • 00:15:51.120 --> 00:15:52.270
  • Vaughn: Well, Dr. Dollar, statistically, if we look at it,
  • 00:15:52.280 --> 00:15:55.150
  • one in four offenders have a current
  • 00:15:55.160 --> 00:15:58.000
  • or a former connection to the church.
  • 00:15:58.010 --> 00:16:00.180
  • So, it's not just about dealing with the outsider threat.
  • 00:16:00.190 --> 00:16:02.280
  • So, when we put together our plan, philosophically, we have
  • 00:16:02.290 --> 00:16:05.270
  • to look at this, and how we look at it is, we say how do
  • 00:16:05.280 --> 00:16:09.050
  • we accomplish safety and security without compromising
  • 00:16:09.060 --> 00:16:11.290
  • the core mission of our ministry?
  • 00:16:12.000 --> 00:16:13.240
  • It would be easy to turn our churches into a prison, but
  • 00:16:13.250 --> 00:16:16.010
  • we're trying to reach out for those folks that have hurts,
  • 00:16:16.020 --> 00:16:18.180
  • heartaches, and hang-ups, so we generally--in general, we
  • 00:16:18.190 --> 00:16:23.010
  • describe the core mission as to provide an atmosphere
  • 00:16:23.020 --> 00:16:24.240
  • of comfort, refuge, worship, and learning,
  • 00:16:24.250 --> 00:16:27.150
  • and of course, sharing the gospel.
  • 00:16:27.160 --> 00:16:29.080
  • And so, how do we accomplish safety and security without
  • 00:16:29.090 --> 00:16:31.120
  • compromising the core mission, otherwise, what's the point?
  • 00:16:31.130 --> 00:16:34.200
  • So, one of the things we say is, it starts in the parking lot.
  • 00:16:34.210 --> 00:16:36.290
  • From the parking lot to the pulpit, and we want to deal
  • 00:16:37.000 --> 00:16:40.090
  • with everything from bullets to Band-Aids.
  • 00:16:40.100 --> 00:16:43.120
  • Not just dealing with shooting events, but it's much more
  • 00:16:43.130 --> 00:16:46.090
  • likely we'll have somebody with a medical emergency,
  • 00:16:46.100 --> 00:16:49.000
  • or something of that nature that occurs at church.
  • 00:16:49.010 --> 00:16:51.010
  • So, we wanna have a comprehensive plan that deals
  • 00:16:51.020 --> 00:16:53.070
  • with all types of not only manmade crisis, but natural
  • 00:16:53.080 --> 00:16:55.290
  • crisis that occurs as well, severe weather events,
  • 00:16:56.000 --> 00:16:58.090
  • fire, things of that nature.
  • 00:16:58.100 --> 00:17:00.250
  • Vaughn: My name is Vaughn Baker.
  • 00:17:00.260 --> 00:17:02.070
  • I have 20 years of law-enforcement experience and
  • 00:17:02.080 --> 00:17:03.260
  • 13 years on the SWAT team, and four or five years
  • 00:17:03.270 --> 00:17:05.270
  • as a detective as well.
  • 00:17:05.280 --> 00:17:10.120
  • male: Probably the first tip I would say is,
  • 00:17:10.130 --> 00:17:12.040
  • be aware of your surroundings.
  • 00:17:12.050 --> 00:17:14.070
  • Trust yourself to respond to sound.
  • 00:17:14.080 --> 00:17:18.010
  • If I hear an argument that's a heated argument,
  • 00:17:18.020 --> 00:17:20.210
  • I don't need to go see what the argument looks like,
  • 00:17:20.220 --> 00:17:22.290
  • I know it doesn't sound good.
  • 00:17:23.000 --> 00:17:25.010
  • Trust my hearing as a sense to get me out of problems.
  • 00:17:25.020 --> 00:17:29.110
  • Vaughn: Where we see a lot of casualties in mass-shooting
  • 00:17:29.120 --> 00:17:31.230
  • events is where people either get down low, or they hide
  • 00:17:31.240 --> 00:17:34.280
  • underneath objects, whether it's cubicles, tables, or desks.
  • 00:17:34.290 --> 00:17:38.000
  • Although that's a very natural thing to do, and it makes you
  • 00:17:38.010 --> 00:17:40.170
  • feel better, it's one of the worst things you can do.
  • 00:17:40.180 --> 00:17:42.240
  • Once you constrict yourself with no escape point, and you can't
  • 00:17:42.250 --> 00:17:45.090
  • even see where the attacker is, now what you're doing is, you're
  • 00:17:45.100 --> 00:17:48.020
  • essentially playing hide and seek with a gunman.
  • 00:17:48.030 --> 00:17:51.190
  • male: There are a lot of people that believe
  • 00:17:51.200 --> 00:17:53.090
  • we can negotiate.
  • 00:17:53.100 --> 00:17:54.190
  • I can talk this person down.
  • 00:17:54.200 --> 00:17:55.290
  • The problem with it is, what if it's you and 15 kids, and you're
  • 00:17:56.000 --> 00:18:00.120
  • trying to bargain with a person that, one, is not rational?
  • 00:18:00.130 --> 00:18:04.070
  • They're emotional, and they're in an emotional state.
  • 00:18:04.080 --> 00:18:06.140
  • That, to me, is one myth or one belief that really scares me.
  • 00:18:06.150 --> 00:18:10.040
  • Vaughn: Many attacks are preceded by a pattern.
  • 00:18:10.050 --> 00:18:12.150
  • Really, what we want people to look for is those behaviors
  • 00:18:12.160 --> 00:18:14.160
  • that are abnormal.
  • 00:18:14.170 --> 00:18:15.280
  • Why is that person doing that particular act?
  • 00:18:15.290 --> 00:18:19.150
  • Creflo: So, Rose, when you hear this information,
  • 00:18:19.160 --> 00:18:22.020
  • your father absolutely, I agree with you 100%,
  • 00:18:22.030 --> 00:18:24.100
  • that's a hero, that's what they do.
  • 00:18:24.110 --> 00:18:27.000
  • They serve other people.
  • 00:18:27.010 --> 00:18:28.100
  • They sacrifice their lives, so that others can benefit and go
  • 00:18:28.110 --> 00:18:30.200
  • forward and do what needs to be done.
  • 00:18:30.210 --> 00:18:32.160
  • But as you hear these stats, and you hear about the practical,
  • 00:18:32.170 --> 00:18:36.140
  • what kind of advice would you give, you know, we're in church,
  • 00:18:36.150 --> 00:18:41.170
  • concerning this plan that we're talking about?
  • 00:18:41.180 --> 00:18:44.120
  • Do you think it's necessary?
  • 00:18:44.130 --> 00:18:45.240
  • Do you think we have to think differently in order to achieve
  • 00:18:45.250 --> 00:18:49.140
  • both the natural and the spiritual?
  • 00:18:49.150 --> 00:18:52.020
  • Rose: Well, I absolutely think it's necessary.
  • 00:18:52.030 --> 00:18:55.240
  • Even when I came to World Changers for New Year's, there
  • 00:18:55.250 --> 00:18:59.040
  • was the metal detector, and I thought that was a great idea,
  • 00:18:59.050 --> 00:19:04.010
  • because of, you know, the things that have been happening.
  • 00:19:04.020 --> 00:19:07.240
  • So, I would say to actively hire security officers.
  • 00:19:07.250 --> 00:19:12.180
  • I think they should carry a weapon, I do.
  • 00:19:12.190 --> 00:19:17.280
  • And, I mean, I don't think we should arm the deacons.
  • 00:19:17.290 --> 00:19:22.050
  • Creflo: Oh, the preacher ought not to have a little peace
  • 00:19:22.060 --> 00:19:23.290
  • piece there right there on the side either, right?
  • 00:19:24.000 --> 00:19:28.250
  • You know, we talk about this, but officer Baker,
  • 00:19:28.260 --> 00:19:31.200
  • it's happening again.
  • 00:19:31.210 --> 00:19:33.100
  • And I guess my question is simply are we learning from it?
  • 00:19:33.110 --> 00:19:36.000
  • Are people making the necessary adjustments?
  • 00:19:36.010 --> 00:19:38.180
  • Vaughn: Well, you know better than anybody
  • 00:19:38.190 --> 00:19:39.280
  • this shouldn't be a surprise.
  • 00:19:39.290 --> 00:19:41.160
  • Matthew 10:22 says, "You will be hated for my namesake."
  • 00:19:41.170 --> 00:19:45.020
  • And Matthew 10:16 warns us that persecutions are coming,
  • 00:19:45.030 --> 00:19:48.200
  • and we need to be prepared to deal with that.
  • 00:19:48.210 --> 00:19:50.240
  • One of the objections that we get frequently is, "Well, you're
  • 00:19:50.250 --> 00:19:53.190
  • demonstrating a lack of faith by preparing for the worst."
  • 00:19:53.200 --> 00:19:56.280
  • For one thing, they're just simply wrong.
  • 00:19:56.290 --> 00:19:58.190
  • That person, if they believe that, then I don't want 'em to
  • 00:19:58.200 --> 00:20:00.220
  • wear their seatbelt, I don't want 'em to lock their doors
  • 00:20:00.230 --> 00:20:02.200
  • at night if that's what they believe.
  • 00:20:02.210 --> 00:20:04.250
  • And this idea of fear on this topic comes from people saying,
  • 00:20:04.260 --> 00:20:08.210
  • "Well, you're just scaring people."
  • 00:20:08.220 --> 00:20:10.100
  • And, well, they don't understand where fear comes from.
  • 00:20:10.110 --> 00:20:12.070
  • Fear comes from having a problem without a solution.
  • 00:20:12.080 --> 00:20:14.260
  • That's where fear comes from.
  • 00:20:14.270 --> 00:20:16.060
  • Creflo: I like that. I don't think I've ever--hold on, there.
  • 00:20:16.070 --> 00:20:17.160
  • Hold on now, Bishop, I like that one.
  • 00:20:17.170 --> 00:20:20.180
  • Let me--I'm gonna steal that one from you.
  • 00:20:20.190 --> 00:20:22.100
  • Fear comes, say that again.
  • 00:20:22.110 --> 00:20:23.280
  • Vaughn: Fear comes from having a problem
  • 00:20:23.290 --> 00:20:25.110
  • without a solution.
  • 00:20:25.120 --> 00:20:26.220
  • That's where fear comes from, and it's where it's magnified.
  • 00:20:26.230 --> 00:20:30.050
  • So, that's why we come in and we work with folks,
  • 00:20:30.060 --> 00:20:32.050
  • and we can actually reduce fear and reduce anxiety
  • 00:20:32.060 --> 00:20:34.260
  • by preparing for the unlikely, but for the worst.
  • 00:20:34.270 --> 00:20:37.290
  • Creflo: And we've gotta get over this thing of, "Well, you
  • 00:20:38.000 --> 00:20:41.000
  • don't have faith if you make adjustments for--and practical
  • 00:20:41.010 --> 00:20:46.210
  • adjustments for what's going on in the world today."
  • 00:20:46.220 --> 00:20:50.200
  • I mean, I would much rather have a plan for security and be able
  • 00:20:50.210 --> 00:20:55.010
  • to continue to teach you about faith, than to allow you
  • 00:20:55.020 --> 00:20:59.070
  • to actually put fear in me about not having faith,
  • 00:20:59.080 --> 00:21:02.160
  • and then I don't have security.
  • 00:21:02.170 --> 00:21:05.190
  • I mean, who wants to get in the pulpit and preach a sermon
  • 00:21:05.200 --> 00:21:08.050
  • wondering if he's about to get shot, you know?
  • 00:21:08.060 --> 00:21:11.150
  • And it's weird, I'm a lot of places, and sometimes there's
  • 00:21:11.160 --> 00:21:13.270
  • just lots of people, and if you're walking in fear of that,
  • 00:21:13.280 --> 00:21:18.160
  • then every time a movement takes place,
  • 00:21:18.170 --> 00:21:20.170
  • you're gonna be ducking all the time.
  • 00:21:20.180 --> 00:21:23.030
  • But I am grateful, number one, for your word on forgiveness.
  • 00:21:23.040 --> 00:21:28.070
  • Because that's pretty powerful, that what you've gone through
  • 00:21:28.080 --> 00:21:33.120
  • and your father being the hero that he was, I'm telling you,
  • 00:21:33.130 --> 00:21:37.010
  • that's a powerful message to people
  • 00:21:37.020 --> 00:21:38.290
  • who've ever gone through something.
  • 00:21:39.000 --> 00:21:40.290
  • But I'm also grateful that God has put it in your heart to say,
  • 00:21:41.000 --> 00:21:44.180
  • "Let me be a part of the solution."
  • 00:21:44.190 --> 00:21:46.100
  • Vaughn: Praise God.
  • 00:21:46.110 --> 00:21:47.200
  • Creflo: "Let me see if I can put some things out that can
  • 00:21:47.210 --> 00:21:50.010
  • help people eliminate their fears, so that they can continue
  • 00:21:50.020 --> 00:21:52.260
  • to do what God is calling them to do."
  • 00:21:52.270 --> 00:21:56.030
  • So, thank you both so much for appearing with us today.
  • 00:21:56.040 --> 00:21:59.220
  • And we appreciate you.
  • 00:21:59.230 --> 00:22:01.090
  • Don't you appreciate our guests today?
  • 00:22:01.100 --> 00:22:04.130
  • So amazing, you know, Proverbs 22 and 3 says, "A prudent person
  • 00:22:04.140 --> 00:22:12.040
  • foresees danger, and he takes precautions."
  • 00:22:12.050 --> 00:22:15.290
  • And I'm telling you, that is so true.
  • 00:22:16.000 --> 00:22:18.050
  • So, preparedness keeps us safe, and ignorance
  • 00:22:18.060 --> 00:22:21.120
  • of this danger is folly.
  • 00:22:21.130 --> 00:22:23.180
  • The enemy wants to keep us terrorized and separate from
  • 00:22:23.190 --> 00:22:27.040
  • those things that can help us, and enlighten our lives,
  • 00:22:27.050 --> 00:22:31.030
  • and lift us up, and cause us to live without fear.
  • 00:22:31.040 --> 00:22:35.070
  • That's the Word.
  • 00:22:35.080 --> 00:22:37.230
  • Rose: So, Pastor Dollar, before we close,
  • 00:22:37.240 --> 00:22:40.070
  • I just have something here that I want to present to you
  • 00:22:40.080 --> 00:22:44.150
  • from the bottom of my heart.
  • 00:22:44.160 --> 00:22:46.270
  • And this, if you will read it, please.
  • 00:22:46.280 --> 00:22:50.170
  • Creflo: It says, "Presented to Creflo Dollar, World Changers
  • 00:22:50.180 --> 00:22:53.040
  • Church, International, from Reverend Dr. Daniel Lee Simmons,
  • 00:22:53.050 --> 00:22:56.080
  • Sr. Memorial Legacy and Scholarship Fund.
  • 00:22:56.090 --> 00:23:00.240
  • Thank you for your wisdom and grace in teaching the world
  • 00:23:00.250 --> 00:23:06.000
  • how to forgive, The Emanuel Nine."
  • 00:23:06.010 --> 00:23:09.210
  • Wow, isn't that awesome?
  • 00:23:09.220 --> 00:23:11.140
  • The Emanuel Nine, praise God.
  • 00:23:11.150 --> 00:23:15.200
  • And there's probably gonna be a neat
  • 00:23:15.210 --> 00:23:17.120
  • movie coming out soon, right?
  • 00:23:17.130 --> 00:23:19.070
  • Rose: Yes, sir, we did have our initial screening,
  • 00:23:19.080 --> 00:23:22.250
  • and that was on June 17.
  • 00:23:22.260 --> 00:23:25.060
  • The title of the film is "Emanuel," and it is actually
  • 00:23:25.070 --> 00:23:30.040
  • the telling of the stories from the families.
  • 00:23:30.050 --> 00:23:33.170
  • Creflo: Well, this is seriously gonna be amazing.
  • 00:23:33.180 --> 00:23:36.130
  • So, guys, thank you guys for joining me today.
  • 00:23:36.140 --> 00:23:38.270
  • It's a blessing.
  • 00:23:38.280 --> 00:23:40.080
  • I've gotten some understanding, and I pray that those who have
  • 00:23:40.090 --> 00:23:43.270
  • watched this program today, that you've been blessed,
  • 00:23:43.280 --> 00:23:46.250
  • and we love you.
  • 00:23:46.260 --> 00:23:48.090
  • We want you to be a part of this program.
  • 00:23:48.100 --> 00:23:51.260
  • We try to bring it to you just as raw as we possibly can.
  • 00:23:51.270 --> 00:23:55.220
  • And I pray that God's riches and best will continue
  • 00:23:55.230 --> 00:23:58.270
  • to be yours as you seek him first.
  • 00:23:58.280 --> 00:24:01.190
  • I want you to be a part of everything we're doing.
  • 00:24:01.200 --> 00:24:04.070
  • Log on to our social media sites, contact me
  • 00:24:04.080 --> 00:24:07.270
  • at YourWorldwithCreflo, and I tell you what,
  • 00:24:07.280 --> 00:24:10.270
  • we believe that the best is yet to come.
  • 00:24:10.280 --> 00:24:13.280
  • God bless you, until next time, we'll see you on "Your World."
  • 00:24:13.290 --> 00:24:18.020
  • [audience applauding]
  • 00:24:18.030 --> 00:24:27.210
  • male announcer: Whether the evil we see is halfway across
  • 00:24:27.220 --> 00:24:29.290
  • the world, in our neighborhood, or lurking just outside our
  • 00:24:30.000 --> 00:24:33.180
  • front door, be assured that God is bigger, stronger,
  • 00:24:33.190 --> 00:24:37.050
  • and more powerful.
  • 00:24:37.060 --> 00:24:39.020
  • Fear can stop us from having the courage to do what we know
  • 00:24:39.030 --> 00:24:42.060
  • is right and from achieving our dreams.
  • 00:24:42.070 --> 00:24:44.290
  • The good news is that God knows
  • 00:24:45.000 --> 00:24:46.280
  • all about this force in our life,
  • 00:24:46.290 --> 00:24:48.250
  • and we can overcome it when we rely on him.
  • 00:24:48.260 --> 00:24:52.020
  • When you believe what's written in the Bible instead of what you
  • 00:24:52.030 --> 00:24:54.280
  • see and hear, you can begin to feel a great peace settling
  • 00:24:54.290 --> 00:24:58.260
  • around you and your family.
  • 00:24:58.270 --> 00:25:00.270
  • In Proverbs 1:33, he says, "Whoever listens to me will
  • 00:25:00.280 --> 00:25:05.040
  • dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil."
  • 00:25:05.050 --> 00:25:09.000
  • Call now to receive The Divine Protection Collection, resources

  • Eliminating the Bondage of Fear," now in hardcover.
  • 00:25:22.060 --> 00:25:25.190
  • Fear can present itself as fear of failure, fear of death, fear
  • 00:25:25.200 --> 00:25:29.100
  • of financial trouble, fear of crime, or the fear of anything
  • 00:25:29.110 --> 00:25:33.000
  • else, and it can shut you down and paralyze you if you let it.
  • 00:25:33.010 --> 00:25:37.060
  • The opposite of fear is faith, and in "Overcoming Fear," Creflo
  • 00:25:37.070 --> 00:25:41.090
  • Dollar shows you how to effectively use God's word
  • 00:25:41.100 --> 00:25:44.180
  • of faith, so that you never have to live in fear again.
  • 00:25:44.190 --> 00:25:47.250
  • Next, you will receive "How to Never be Afraid Again,"
  • 00:25:47.260 --> 00:25:51.040
  • Creflo Dollar's two-message series on CD.
  • 00:25:51.050 --> 00:25:54.030
  • Fear isn't just a feeling, it's actually a powerful spirit.
  • 00:25:54.040 --> 00:25:58.020
  • It preys on your mind, but it can be defeated.
  • 00:25:58.030 --> 00:26:01.110
  • When you understand faith and the power of God's Word,
  • 00:26:01.120 --> 00:26:04.080
  • you can stop walking in fear.
  • 00:26:04.090 --> 00:26:06.190
  • And when you call, you'll also get the bonus DVD,
  • 00:26:06.200 --> 00:26:09.270
  • "Protect the Flock."
  • 00:26:09.280 --> 00:26:11.200
  • You only saw a small part of Creflo Dollar's interview with
  • 00:26:11.210 --> 00:26:14.000
  • Rose Simmons, the daughter of the second victim to be shot in
  • 00:26:14.010 --> 00:26:17.250
  • the Charleston church massacre, and SWAT and special-ops
  • 00:26:17.260 --> 00:26:21.160
  • officer, Vaughn Baker, who talks about protecting the church
  • 00:26:21.170 --> 00:26:24.070
  • in the natural from the unthinkable.
  • 00:26:24.080 --> 00:26:26.170
  • Now, you'll get the uncut, fully-complete version with
  • 00:26:26.180 --> 00:26:29.180
  • never-seen before footage.
  • 00:26:29.190 --> 00:26:31.190
  • If you or someone you love still struggles with fear,
  • 00:26:31.200 --> 00:26:34.220
  • then please, don't miss this complete session.
  • 00:26:34.230 --> 00:26:37.160
  • There is a supernatural level of protection
  • 00:26:37.170 --> 00:26:40.050
  • covering us all through our faith.

  • "How to Never be Afraid Again,"
  • 00:26:49.120 --> 00:26:51.080
  • and the complete and uncut interview, "Protect the Flock,"

  • all for your tax-deductible donation of only $40 or more.
  • 00:26:55.030 --> 00:26:58.270
  • Whether you're looking out your front window, or watching the
  • 00:26:58.280 --> 00:27:01.130
  • nightly news, there is no longer any reason to fear when you
  • 00:27:01.140 --> 00:27:05.110
  • place your faith in God's promise of divine protection.
  • 00:27:05.120 --> 00:27:09.030
  • Call right now.
  • 00:27:09.040 --> 00:27:10.240
  • 00:27:11.030 --> 00:27:16.250
  • 00:27:17.160 --> 00:27:25.150
  • 00:27:26.020 --> 00:27:29.250
