  • 00:09:21.526 --> 00:09:25.864
  • Wilderness, he is well into retirement, you know, he says,
  • 00:09:25.864 --> 00:09:29.501
  • Hey man, i worked hard, now i'm gonna kick back.
  • 00:09:29.501 --> 00:09:32.070
  • I meet people that retired, "yeah, i'm retired, yeah, just
  • 00:09:32.070 --> 00:09:35.340
  • Worked to take the old pension," "what are you gonna do?"
  • 00:09:35.340 --> 00:09:38.343
  • "golf," "what else?"
  • 00:09:38.343 --> 00:09:40.312
  • "fish," "what else?"
  • 00:09:40.312 --> 00:09:42.280
  • "sleep," "what else?"
  • 00:09:42.280 --> 00:09:45.116
  • "fish," "what else?"
  • 00:09:45.116 --> 00:09:47.786
  • "try to golf and fish simultaneously maybe."
  • 00:09:47.786 --> 00:09:51.656
  • Get out of your la-z-boy and get busy for the kingdom of god,
  • 00:09:51.656 --> 00:09:56.127
  • God still has a plan for your life.
  • 00:09:56.127 --> 00:09:59.164
  • Don't tell me you're too old to serve the lord, moses was 80.
  • 00:10:00.999 --> 00:10:04.970
  • Don't tell me you're too young to serve the lord, jeremiah was
  • 00:10:04.970 --> 00:10:08.239
  • But a teenager.
  • 00:10:08.239 --> 00:10:09.975
  • My point to you is god wants to use all of us at every stage of
  • 00:10:09.975 --> 00:10:14.646
  • Our life.
  • 00:10:14.646 --> 00:10:16.014
  • Listen to what god says to moses, exodus 3: "i am the god
  • 00:10:16.014 --> 00:10:19.084
  • Of your father, i'm the god of abraham, isaac, and jacob."
  • 00:10:19.084 --> 00:10:23.288
  • Now we hear that, it sounds very impressive, abraham, isaac, and
  • 00:10:23.288 --> 00:10:27.058
  • Jacob, right?
  • 00:10:27.058 --> 00:10:28.560
  • But wait, let's think about it for a moment because in the
  • 00:10:28.560 --> 00:10:30.729
  • "world changers" series, we've seen the flaws of everyone that
  • 00:10:30.729 --> 00:10:33.632
  • God used.
  • 00:10:33.632 --> 00:10:35.000
  • These people are not in the heroes hall of faith because
  • 00:10:35.000 --> 00:10:37.869
  • They were great people, they're in the heroes hall of faith
  • 00:10:37.869 --> 00:10:40.905
  • Because they had faith in a great god.
  • 00:10:40.905 --> 00:10:43.508
  • This hall of faith of hebrews 11 is filled with a lot of
  • 00:10:43.508 --> 00:10:47.145
  • Interesting characters, all with serious problems: abraham, the
  • 00:10:47.145 --> 00:10:53.051
  • Father of faith, had flaws and lapses of faith and lied on
  • 00:10:53.051 --> 00:10:57.288
  • Multiple occasions.
  • 00:10:57.288 --> 00:10:59.290
  • Jacob, oh, he was legendary for his deception and manipulation.
  • 00:10:59.290 --> 00:11:04.829
  • Isaac favored one son over another and didn't really listen
  • 00:11:04.829 --> 00:11:08.533
  • To the lord.
  • 00:11:08.533 --> 00:11:09.868
  • So really, when god says to moses, "i am the god of abraham,
  • 00:11:09.868 --> 00:11:13.104
  • Isaac, and jacob," what he is saying is, i am the god of
  • 00:11:13.104 --> 00:11:16.141
  • Flawed people, i am the god of people that make mistakes.
  • 00:11:16.141 --> 00:11:20.712
  • Really what the lord is saying is i am the god of
  • 00:11:20.712 --> 00:11:23.181
  • Second chances.
  • 00:11:23.181 --> 00:11:24.949
  • And why would he say that to moses?
  • 00:11:24.949 --> 00:11:26.618
  • Because moses needed a second chance, because he killed a man
  • 00:11:26.618 --> 00:11:30.989
  • And he had spent 40 years thinking he'd probably never do
  • 00:11:30.989 --> 00:11:34.125
  • Anything for the lord, but the lord is saying, buddy, i'm
  • 00:11:34.125 --> 00:11:36.628
  • Recommissioning you, so park the winnebago and let's get busy,
  • 00:11:36.628 --> 00:11:41.766
  • We've got work to do.
  • 00:11:41.766 --> 00:11:43.835
  • And we're gonna go and deliver a nation from the power of egypt
  • 00:11:43.835 --> 00:11:49.074
  • Because i'm aware of all that my people are going through.
  • 00:11:49.074 --> 00:11:51.609
  • The lord says that he has heard and he has seen the affliction
  • 00:11:51.609 --> 00:11:55.680
  • That the people are facing, and moses, i'm calling you to lead
  • 00:11:55.680 --> 00:11:59.184
  • Them out.
  • 00:11:59.184 --> 00:12:00.552
  • Now, what moses should have done was fall on his face and say,
  • 00:12:00.552 --> 00:12:04.189
  • Thank you, lord, for a second chance, i'm ready to go.
  • 00:12:04.189 --> 00:12:07.192
  • But what moses does instead is offer up a bunch of excuses as
  • 00:12:07.192 --> 00:12:10.995
  • To why he can't serve the lord.
  • 00:12:10.995 --> 00:12:13.732
  • I bring this up because we all know we're supposed to serve the
  • 00:12:13.732 --> 00:12:16.334
  • Lord, we all know that god has a plan for each of us.
  • 00:12:16.334 --> 00:12:19.871
  • We all know that god has given us gifts and talents and
  • 00:12:19.871 --> 00:12:22.974
  • Abilities and resources to use for his glory, but so often,
  • 00:12:22.974 --> 00:12:27.178
  • Many of us are not doing it, and why are we not doing it?
  • 00:12:27.178 --> 00:12:30.682
  • We offer up excuses, never reasons.
  • 00:12:30.682 --> 00:12:34.586
  • There's no good reason to not serve the lord but excuses, as
  • 00:12:34.652 --> 00:12:39.324
  • We look at the excuses of moses, you might find yourself
  • 00:12:39.324 --> 00:12:42.127
  • In one of them.
  • 00:12:42.127 --> 00:12:43.495
  • This is why i called the message
  • 00:12:43.495 --> 00:12:45.196
  • 'the excuses of a world changer.'
  • 00:12:45.196 --> 00:12:47.866
  • Greg: hey, everybody, pastor greg laurie here with some
  • 00:12:52.003 --> 00:12:53.905
  • Thoughts about sharing your faith.
  • 00:12:53.905 --> 00:12:57.041
  • You know, i think we're reluctant to tell others about
  • 00:12:57.041 --> 00:12:59.878
  • Jesus because we feel as though we're gonna somehow fall flat
  • 00:12:59.878 --> 00:13:03.181
  • On our face or mess it up, but think of it this way: when
  • 00:13:03.181 --> 00:13:06.885
  • Someone asks you for a good place to eat, are you reluctant
  • 00:13:06.885 --> 00:13:09.888
  • To tell them what your favorite restaurant is?
  • 00:13:09.888 --> 00:13:12.257
  • Or if someone says, "hey, have you seen any good movies
  • 00:13:12.257 --> 00:13:15.126
  • Lately," are you apprehensive about telling them about a film
  • 00:13:15.126 --> 00:13:18.429
  • You just saw?
  • 00:13:18.429 --> 00:13:19.798
  • Probably the opposite, "oh, i just saw this great film," or,
  • 00:13:19.798 --> 00:13:21.966
  • "oh, i had this great meal at this place," it's called
  • 00:13:21.966 --> 00:13:24.669
  • A recommendation; i mean, what is yelp?
  • 00:13:24.669 --> 00:13:26.905
  • Yelp is a place where we go and basically read the opinions of
  • 00:13:26.905 --> 00:13:30.508
  • Total strangers and maybe eat in that place upon
  • 00:13:30.508 --> 00:13:33.478
  • That recommendation.
  • 00:13:33.478 --> 00:13:34.979
  • So think of evangelism this way: it's offering a recommendation,
  • 00:13:34.979 --> 00:13:39.317
  • Saying, here's what christ has done for me, and i recommend
  • 00:13:39.317 --> 00:13:43.988
  • That to you.
  • 00:13:43.988 --> 00:13:45.390
  • Don't be so afraid to do it, people are searching for truth,
  • 00:13:45.390 --> 00:13:49.427
  • People are searching for hope.
  • 00:13:49.427 --> 00:13:51.396
  • People are searching for meaning in life, and you have the
  • 00:13:51.396 --> 00:13:54.332
  • Greatest recommendation of all.
  • 00:13:54.332 --> 00:13:56.701
  • So i encourage you to look for new ways to start evangelistic
  • 00:13:56.701 --> 00:14:01.940
  • Conversations and make that recommendation, that people
  • 00:14:01.940 --> 00:14:05.944
  • Believe in jesus christ.
  • 00:14:05.944 --> 00:14:07.679
  • Greg: excuse number 1: exodus 3:11, i don't deserve to be used
  • 00:14:10.982 --> 00:14:16.654
  • By god.
  • 00:14:16.654 --> 00:14:18.323
  • He says, "who am i to appear before pharaoh?"
  • 00:14:18.323 --> 00:14:20.825
  • Moses asked god, "how can you expect me to lead the israelites
  • 00:14:20.825 --> 00:14:24.863
  • Out of egypt?"
  • 00:14:24.863 --> 00:14:26.698
  • Now, you know, in a way moses had a point.
  • 00:14:26.698 --> 00:14:28.666
  • I mean, would you have picked moses if you were god, why not
  • 00:14:28.666 --> 00:14:32.103
  • Pick some young guy?
  • 00:14:32.103 --> 00:14:33.872
  • Moses had a lot of baggage, you know, he had made a lot of
  • 00:14:33.872 --> 00:14:37.909
  • Mistakes and in a way, he was sort of a has-been, a failure,
  • 00:14:37.909 --> 00:14:41.579
  • Even an embarrassment, why use him?
  • 00:14:41.579 --> 00:14:44.148
  • Use somebody who'd never--no, god says, i want moses because
  • 00:14:44.148 --> 00:14:47.652
  • I've been whipping this boy into shape for a long time and he is
  • 00:14:47.652 --> 00:14:50.655
  • Ready to rumble, this is my man.
  • 00:14:50.655 --> 00:14:53.825
  • You know, it seems as though god goes out of his way to pick the
  • 00:14:53.825 --> 00:14:57.161
  • Most expect--unexpected people.
  • 00:14:57.161 --> 00:14:58.763
  • God wants to reach the nation of nineveh, so the lord calls
  • 00:14:58.763 --> 00:15:03.334
  • Jonah, listen, jonah was a racist.
  • 00:15:03.334 --> 00:15:07.372
  • You say, what do you mean?
  • 00:15:07.372 --> 00:15:08.740
  • He hated the ninevites, he wanted god to kill
  • 00:15:08.740 --> 00:15:11.843
  • The ninevites.
  • 00:15:11.843 --> 00:15:13.177
  • God said, you're the perfect guy to go preach to the ninevites.
  • 00:15:13.177 --> 00:15:16.814
  • I don't wanna go, yeah, whatever, let's go, and a great
  • 00:15:16.814 --> 00:15:20.318
  • Revival broke out.
  • 00:15:20.318 --> 00:15:22.053
  • And then god wanted a courageous man to lead israel out of the
  • 00:15:22.053 --> 00:15:25.256
  • Bondage of the midianites, their enemies, so he chooses gideon,
  • 00:15:25.256 --> 00:15:30.094
  • Who happens to be hiding from his enemy when the angel appears
  • 00:15:30.094 --> 00:15:33.831
  • To him.
  • 00:15:33.831 --> 00:15:35.199
  • Hiding behind a wall, sort of threshing the wheat, and an
  • 00:15:35.199 --> 00:15:37.602
  • Angel appears and says, "hey gideon, you mighty man of
  • 00:15:37.602 --> 00:15:40.872
  • Courage, the lord is with you," gideon's like, "is there another
  • 00:15:40.872 --> 00:15:44.042
  • Gideon here?
  • 00:15:44.042 --> 00:15:45.543
  • What, you mean moi, me?"
  • 00:15:45.543 --> 00:15:48.613
  • "yeah, you," well, that doesn't make any sense, if there's
  • 00:15:48.613 --> 00:15:52.183
  • Anything gideon was not at that moment, it was a mighty man of
  • 00:15:52.183 --> 00:15:55.186
  • Courage, but listen to this: god doesn't see you for what you
  • 00:15:55.186 --> 00:15:58.790
  • Are, he sees you for what you can become, he sees potential.
  • 00:15:58.790 --> 00:16:04.162
  • It is said that the great master artist michelangelo was looking
  • 00:16:04.162 --> 00:16:07.732
  • At a big slab of marble and he said, "i want to liberate
  • 00:16:07.732 --> 00:16:13.371
  • An angel from that marble."
  • 00:16:13.371 --> 00:16:15.640
  • See, the great artist michelangelo could just look at
  • 00:16:15.640 --> 00:16:18.142
  • A slate of stone and see what would come from it, and god
  • 00:16:18.142 --> 00:16:22.080
  • Looks at you and says, i know what you can be.
  • 00:16:22.080 --> 00:16:24.248
  • You don't know it yet, but i know, i know what i can make you
  • 00:16:24.248 --> 00:16:27.285
  • Into, you'll be a mighty man of god, you'll be a mighty woman
  • 00:16:27.285 --> 00:16:31.356
  • Of god.
  • 00:16:31.356 --> 00:16:32.690
  • Don't care if you're young or you're old or you think you're
  • 00:16:32.690 --> 00:16:34.492
  • Qualified, i will make you into that.
  • 00:16:34.492 --> 00:16:36.861
  • So god is saying, moses, i've called you to be this man.
  • 00:16:36.861 --> 00:16:41.899
  • Number 2: moses says, well, i don't have all the answers,
  • 00:16:41.899 --> 00:16:44.969
  • Exodus 3.
  • 00:16:44.969 --> 00:16:47.605
  • So you have to look at that verse 23--or 13, excuse me,
  • 00:16:47.605 --> 00:16:51.976
  • "moses protested, 'if i go to the people and tell them, 'the
  • 00:16:51.976 --> 00:16:54.645
  • God of your ancestors has sent me to you,' they won't believe
  • 00:16:54.645 --> 00:16:58.483
  • Me, they'll ask, 'which god are you talking about, and what is
  • 00:16:58.483 --> 00:17:01.819
  • His name?'
  • 00:17:01.819 --> 00:17:03.154
  • Then what would i tell them?'
  • 00:17:03.154 --> 00:17:04.522
  • God says, 'well, you just tell them, i am who i am.
  • 00:17:04.522 --> 00:17:08.026
  • Just say the i am has sent me to you.'"
  • 00:17:08.026 --> 00:17:11.529
  • Funny thing; moses says, "who am i?"
  • 00:17:11.529 --> 00:17:14.232
  • God says, "i am that i am," stop talking about yourself, stop
  • 00:17:14.232 --> 00:17:19.604
  • Thinking about yourself, you just tell them i am has
  • 00:17:19.604 --> 00:17:22.940
  • Sent you.
  • 00:17:22.940 --> 00:17:24.275
  • Moses, it's not about you, it's about me.
  • 00:17:24.275 --> 00:17:27.478
  • You know, i think a lot of times we're afraid if we engage
  • 00:17:27.478 --> 00:17:29.814
  • A non-believer with the gospel that they'll ask us a hard
  • 00:17:29.814 --> 00:17:33.885
  • Question we don't have the answer to.
  • 00:17:33.885 --> 00:17:35.887
  • I don't have all the answers, so what?
  • 00:17:35.887 --> 00:17:38.289
  • Just get out there and share your faith.
  • 00:17:38.289 --> 00:17:40.291
  • If you don't have an answer, go back and study more and you'll
  • 00:17:40.291 --> 00:17:42.727
  • Have more answers next time for sure.
  • 00:17:42.727 --> 00:17:45.296
  • But don't let that stop you from telling others about jesus.
  • 00:17:45.296 --> 00:17:48.900
  • Well, i don't know if i can prove the existence of god, my
  • 00:17:48.900 --> 00:17:52.070
  • Job is not to prove the existence of god, my job is to
  • 00:17:52.070 --> 00:17:55.940
  • Proclaim the good news of the gospel.
  • 00:17:55.940 --> 00:17:58.476
  • You say, well, what if they don't believe in the bible,
  • 00:17:58.476 --> 00:18:01.045
  • Can i still quote it?
  • 00:18:01.045 --> 00:18:02.413
  • Are you kidding?
  • 00:18:02.413 --> 00:18:04.582
  • God says of his word, that it's alive and powerful and sharper
  • 00:18:04.582 --> 00:18:08.352
  • Than any two-edged sword; if they believe it or not, it is
  • 00:18:08.352 --> 00:18:11.956
  • What it is.
  • 00:18:11.956 --> 00:18:13.558
  • And so that would be like, you know, talking to someone, you
  • 00:18:13.558 --> 00:18:15.693
  • Have a sword, they say, "well, like i don't believe your
  • 00:18:15.693 --> 00:18:17.528
  • Sword's real, okay, man?
  • 00:18:17.528 --> 00:18:19.430
  • Like, i think your sword is like just an imagination i--"
  • 00:18:19.430 --> 00:18:23.634
  • "oh yeah, let me use my sword on you for a moment," pow, pow!
  • 00:18:23.634 --> 00:18:26.304
  • And now they're gonna believe the sword's real when i give
  • 00:18:26.304 --> 00:18:29.640
  • Them a good poke with it.
  • 00:18:29.640 --> 00:18:32.243
  • "well, i don't believe in the bible, i don't think it's
  • 00:18:32.243 --> 00:18:34.078
  • Inspired by god," "yeah, really?
  • 00:18:34.078 --> 00:18:35.847
  • Interesting, here's what the bible says," and you just share
  • 00:18:35.847 --> 00:18:39.117
  • It with them, and the power of god's word will penetrate
  • 00:18:39.117 --> 00:18:42.186
  • Their heart.
  • 00:18:42.186 --> 00:18:43.554
  • God says, "my word will not return to me void, it will
  • 00:18:43.554 --> 00:18:47.125
  • Prosper in the place where i send it."
  • 00:18:47.125 --> 00:18:49.193
  • Years ago, when i was starting crusade evangelism, it was the
  • 00:18:49.193 --> 00:18:54.899
  • Mid-30s--excuse me, i was mis--i totally said that wrong, i was
  • 00:18:54.899 --> 00:18:59.103
  • In my mid-30s, i haven't been doing it that long.
  • 00:18:59.103 --> 00:19:02.907
  • Funny, it was actually mid-'90s, but i was in my mid-30s, and you
  • 00:19:02.907 --> 00:19:08.279
  • Know a funny thing, when i was in my 30s, i thought i was
  • 00:19:08.279 --> 00:19:12.083
  • Really old, i thought, "wow, i'm really old now, i'm in my 30s."
  • 00:19:12.083 --> 00:19:16.354
  • When i talk to young people, they say, "i'm so old, i'm in my
  • 00:19:16.354 --> 00:19:19.023
  • 30s," i say, "please stop, you're not old yet, okay?
  • 00:19:19.023 --> 00:19:21.959
  • Trust me, you'll know what i'm talking about later," right?
  • 00:19:21.959 --> 00:19:24.762
  • Well, anyway, i'd been getting so old and--but you know, this
  • 00:19:24.762 --> 00:19:28.132
  • Opportunity opened up to preach the gospel in arenas and
  • 00:19:28.132 --> 00:19:30.801
  • Stadiums and such, and i was a little overwhelmed by it, and we
  • 00:19:30.801 --> 00:19:34.605
  • Were visiting with ruth graham, who we got to know very well,
  • 00:19:34.605 --> 00:19:37.742
  • She was billy's wife, she's in heaven now.
  • 00:19:37.742 --> 00:19:41.045
  • And we were often asked to speak at the billy graham training
  • 00:19:41.045 --> 00:19:44.282
  • Center at the cove, which is very close to the home of
  • 00:19:44.282 --> 00:19:47.652
  • The grahams.
  • 00:19:47.652 --> 00:19:49.020
  • And billy was usually not there because he was somewhere in the
  • 00:19:49.020 --> 00:19:51.923
  • World doing a crusade, but ruth was always home, and she would
  • 00:19:51.923 --> 00:19:56.194
  • Always come out to the bible studies and take notes.
  • 00:19:56.194 --> 00:19:59.564
  • It's amazing like, why would you take notes when i'm speaking?
  • 00:19:59.564 --> 00:20:02.633
  • I mean, she was such a wonderful lady, and we'd spend a lot of
  • 00:20:02.633 --> 00:20:05.436
  • Time hanging out with her.
  • 00:20:05.436 --> 00:20:06.771
  • She was fun-loving, quick to laugh, very knowledgeable of
  • 00:20:06.771 --> 00:20:10.675
  • Scripture, full of wisdom, and one day i said, "oh ruth, i'm so
  • 00:20:10.675 --> 00:20:14.579
  • Intimidated, i, you know, doing these crusades and all this
  • 00:20:14.579 --> 00:20:17.448
  • Stuff, i don't feel like i'm really ready for it, i need
  • 00:20:17.448 --> 00:20:20.318
  • To really brush up on my apologetics."
  • 00:20:20.318 --> 00:20:22.053
  • She said, "greg, don't worry about that, you just proclaim
  • 00:20:22.053 --> 00:20:25.223
  • The gospel.
  • 00:20:25.223 --> 00:20:26.557
  • That's what billy always did and that's what you need to do," and
  • 00:20:26.557 --> 00:20:28.726
  • I said, "yes, ma'am," and she was right.
  • 00:20:28.726 --> 00:20:31.796
  • And you know, as the years have passed, in my evangelistic
  • 00:20:31.796 --> 00:20:34.966
  • Preaching, i've actually gotten simpler by intention.
  • 00:20:34.966 --> 00:20:39.870
  • And by that i mean, is that i've tried to make the message so
  • 00:20:39.870 --> 00:20:44.075
  • Understandable, not assuming that my listener has a clue as
  • 00:20:44.075 --> 00:20:48.346
  • To what i'm actually talking about, not assuming people know
  • 00:20:48.346 --> 00:20:51.649
  • Biblical terminology because nowadays, most don't.
  • 00:20:51.649 --> 00:20:56.420
  • And so you have to make it very understandable so if they reject
  • 00:20:56.420 --> 00:21:00.324
  • It, let it be because they don't like the message or wanna
  • 00:21:00.324 --> 00:21:03.894
  • Believe it, as opposed to because they don't
  • 00:21:03.894 --> 00:21:06.797
  • Understand it.
  • 00:21:06.797 --> 00:21:08.165
  • So moses continues on with his plethora of excuses.
  • 00:21:08.165 --> 00:21:12.403
  • I just wanted to use the word "plethora" in a sentence.
  • 00:21:12.403 --> 00:21:17.341
  • Excuse number 3: the people won't believe me, that's in
  • 00:21:17.341 --> 00:21:20.811
  • Exodus 4: "the people won't believe me," exodus 4, verse 1:
  • 00:21:20.811 --> 00:21:24.882
  • "moses protested again, 'look, they won't believe me, they
  • 00:21:24.882 --> 00:21:28.286
  • Won't do what i tell them, they'll just say the lord never
  • 00:21:28.286 --> 00:21:30.588
  • Appeared to you.'
  • 00:21:30.588 --> 00:21:31.922
  • The lord says, 'what do you have there in your hand?'
  • 00:21:31.922 --> 00:21:33.457
  • Moses said, 'well, a shepherd's staff.'
  • 00:21:33.457 --> 00:21:35.192
  • 'throw it to the ground,' the lord said.
  • 00:21:35.192 --> 00:21:37.194
  • So moses threw it to the ground, and it became a snake!
  • 00:21:37.194 --> 00:21:40.531
  • Moses was terrified, and he turned and ran away."
  • 00:21:40.531 --> 00:21:43.334
  • This is funny to me, i just--he throws it, ah!
  • 00:21:43.334 --> 00:21:46.304
  • Runs, it's a snake, probably a cobra.
  • 00:21:46.304 --> 00:21:49.206
  • "the lord said, 'take hold of the snake.'
  • 00:21:49.206 --> 00:21:51.676
  • And he reached down and grabbed it, and it became a shepherd's
  • 00:21:51.676 --> 00:21:54.578
  • Staff again."
  • 00:21:54.578 --> 00:21:56.013
  • Exodus 4:5: "perform this sign, and they'll believe you," the
  • 00:21:56.013 --> 00:21:59.116
  • Lord told him, "and they'll realize that the lord, the god
  • 00:21:59.116 --> 00:22:02.019
  • Of their ancestors--the god of abraham, isaac, and jacob has
  • 00:22:02.019 --> 00:22:06.357
  • Appeared to you."
  • 00:22:06.357 --> 00:22:08.025
  • Now, this is crazy because, first of all, you never grab
  • 00:22:08.025 --> 00:22:11.462
  • A snake by the tail because it'll turn around and bite you,
  • 00:22:11.462 --> 00:22:14.699
  • I've told you that before.
  • 00:22:14.699 --> 00:22:16.267
  • God says, "grab the snake," why?
  • 00:22:16.267 --> 00:22:18.569
  • The snake was a symbol of egypt, in particular the cobra.
  • 00:22:18.569 --> 00:22:22.740
  • You can look at the--not the car, the snake, you can look at
  • 00:22:22.740 --> 00:22:26.377
  • The antiquities of egypt today and see that cobra there
  • 00:22:26.377 --> 00:22:30.181
  • Symbolizing the pharaoh, in particular, and the nation
  • 00:22:30.181 --> 00:22:33.884
  • Of egypt.
  • 00:22:33.884 --> 00:22:35.252
  • So here's what god is saying, i'm more powerful than the
  • 00:22:35.252 --> 00:22:38.022
  • Snake, i'm more powerful than egypt.
  • 00:22:38.022 --> 00:22:41.325
  • I'm more powerful than pharaoh, so pick it up.
  • 00:22:41.325 --> 00:22:45.062
  • Our modern vernacular might be take the tiger by the tail,
  • 00:22:45.062 --> 00:22:49.567
  • Don't be intimidated, face your fears and say, the lord is
  • 00:22:49.567 --> 00:22:53.871
  • Greater than all of my fears.
  • 00:22:53.871 --> 00:22:56.006
  • And that's what moses did, he picked it up because he was
  • 00:22:56.006 --> 00:22:59.009
  • Being commissioned by god.
  • 00:22:59.009 --> 00:23:01.379
  • And we have been commissioned as well by the lord to represent
  • 00:23:01.379 --> 00:23:05.783
  • Christ to a pagan culture.
  • 00:23:05.783 --> 00:23:08.119
  • Moses was called to the pagan culture of egypt, we're called
  • 00:23:08.119 --> 00:23:11.622
  • To the pagan culture of the united states of america and to
  • 00:23:11.622 --> 00:23:16.160
  • The world.
  • 00:23:16.160 --> 00:23:17.495
  • And when i say pagan, i don't mean that in a mean way, i mean
  • 00:23:17.495 --> 00:23:20.464
  • It in a descriptive way.
  • 00:23:20.464 --> 00:23:22.800
  • When i use the word "pagan," i'm talking about people that
  • 00:23:22.800 --> 00:23:25.836
  • Believe in anything and everything but the right thing.
  • 00:23:25.836 --> 00:23:30.741
  • Look at excuse number 4: moses says, i'm not a good speaker,
  • 00:23:30.741 --> 00:23:34.712
  • Verse 10: "0 lord, i--i'm clumsy with words, i'm not
  • 00:23:34.712 --> 00:23:38.749
  • A good speaker."
  • 00:23:38.749 --> 00:23:40.584
  • Listen to this: god is not looking for good speakers, he's
  • 00:23:40.584 --> 00:23:44.088
  • Looking for obedient servants.
  • 00:23:44.088 --> 00:23:47.391
  • You don't have to be a good speaker, you just need to be
  • 00:23:47.391 --> 00:23:49.827
  • Someone who obeys god, he'll give you the words, because god
  • 00:23:49.827 --> 00:23:54.031
  • Is more interested in character than charisma, you see.
  • 00:23:54.031 --> 00:23:59.470
  • And look, i--i'm not a good speaker, i don't think i am, but
  • 00:23:59.470 --> 00:24:03.674
  • I have a great message, and i'm confident in my message and
  • 00:24:03.674 --> 00:24:07.812
  • That's why i proclaim it, and you have that same message and
  • 00:24:07.812 --> 00:24:11.348
  • We all need to get it out.
  • 00:24:11.348 --> 00:24:13.250
  • By the way, by that applause, i'm assuming you're affirming
  • 00:24:13.250 --> 00:24:16.353
  • That i'm not a good speaker, so thanks for that.
  • 00:24:16.353 --> 00:24:20.424
  • No, seriously, you know you meant it, but it's true.
  • 00:24:20.424 --> 00:24:25.696
  • Okay, last excuse, number 5: i'm not qualified.
  • 00:24:25.696 --> 00:24:29.934
  • I'm not qualified, verse 13: "lord, please send by the hand
  • 00:24:29.934 --> 00:24:34.138
  • Of whomever else you will send," that's a fancy way of saying get
  • 00:24:34.138 --> 00:24:38.242
  • Someone else to do it, "here i am, lord, send him, not me," and
  • 00:24:38.242 --> 00:24:45.115
  • Then he actually suggests his brother aaron, "you know aaron,
  • 00:24:45.115 --> 00:24:48.385
  • My bro, he is a--this guy can talk, man, he has the gift of
  • 00:24:48.385 --> 00:24:53.791
  • Gab, use him."
  • 00:24:53.791 --> 00:24:55.125
  • Lord says, "i don't want aaron, i want you."
  • 00:24:55.125 --> 00:24:57.795
  • "well, i can't do it, i, i, i have a speech impediment,
  • 00:24:57.795 --> 00:25:00.664
  • I stumble over my words, i, i stutter, i, i, i, i, i, i, i,
  • 00:25:00.664 --> 00:25:04.935
  • I ju--i ju--ju--ju--just not the guy."
  • 00:25:04.935 --> 00:25:07.605
  • "yeah, that's why i want you."
  • 00:25:07.605 --> 00:25:09.740
  • Stop with the excuses, they're not legit.
  • 00:25:09.740 --> 00:25:12.810
  • You have no reason why you can't be used of god, you only have
  • 00:25:12.810 --> 00:25:17.281
  • Lame excuses.
  • 00:25:17.281 --> 00:25:19.917
  • The lord says, "i want you to do is say, 'lord, thank you, i'll
  • 00:25:19.917 --> 00:25:23.454
  • Do it, and i know you will help me to do it.'"
  • 00:25:23.454 --> 00:25:26.891
  • And ultimately, moses agreed and did what the lord called him
  • 00:25:26.891 --> 00:25:31.629
  • To do.
  • 00:25:31.629 --> 00:25:33.063
  • Greg: have you ever heard the term gospel before?
  • 00:25:36.333 --> 00:25:38.569
  • It means good news, but before i can fully appreciate the good
  • 00:25:38.569 --> 00:25:42.106
  • News, i have to know the bad news.
  • 00:25:42.106 --> 00:25:45.342
  • You and i were sinners, which means we've broken god's
  • 00:25:45.342 --> 00:25:48.579
  • Commandments, we've fallen short of his standards.
  • 00:25:48.579 --> 00:25:51.115
  • Good news: jesus christ died in our place, he came to pay
  • 00:25:51.115 --> 00:25:55.319
  • A debt he did not owe because we owed a debt we could not pay.
  • 00:25:55.319 --> 00:25:59.356
  • If you will turn from your sin and put your faith in
  • 00:25:59.356 --> 00:26:03.127
  • Jesus christ, you can be forgiven and know that you'll go
  • 00:26:03.127 --> 00:26:06.130
  • To heaven when you die and find the meaning of life right here
  • 00:26:06.130 --> 00:26:10.100
  • On planet earth.
  • 00:26:10.100 --> 00:26:11.468
  • You just call out to jesus and say, forgive me, i want to have
  • 00:26:11.468 --> 00:26:15.406
  • A relationship with you.
  • 00:26:15.406 --> 00:26:18.242
  • I would like to send you a bible at no charge to help you get
  • 00:26:18.242 --> 00:26:22.212
  • Started in your new relationship with christ.

  • Greg: you know, the bible says a good person leaves an
  • 00:26:31.021 --> 00:26:34.592
  • Inheritance for their children's children.
  • 00:26:34.592 --> 00:26:38.162
  • God encourages all of us as christians to manage our money
  • 00:26:38.162 --> 00:26:42.199
