NASHVILLE (May 2, 2018) — Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), who has presented numerous cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, will be the exclusive guest on the Trinity Broadcasting Network’s flagship talk show Praise in TBN’s Nashville studio Thursday, May 3rd, to discuss his new book Jerusalem: A Biblical and Historical Case for the Jewish Capital.
The book is being released as the nation of Israel prepares to celebrate the 70th anniversary of its 1948 independence on May 14th, and as the U.S. officially transitions its Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem — an historic and unprecedented move announced by President Trump last December.
There has been aggressive resistance against such a move for decades, and Sekulow said that he approached writing the book as if he were preparing to present the case before America’s highest court, something he has done many times in his thirty-plus year legal career. “When you consider that Jerusalem has been the capital of the Jewish people since their very beginning as a nation, that’s really significant,” he said. “There are a lot of books that talk about Israel and why it has a right to exist, and that’s all good. But my goal with this book was to approach the existence of Jerusalem as the eternal capital of the Jewish people as if it were a Supreme Court case.”
As a member of Donald Trump’s personal legal team, Sekulow said that he was very happy “when my client, the president, recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. For years the U.S. has had a law that said the president could recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. And this president boldly did just that!”
Sekulow recalled that he had the opportunity to counsel President Trump and Vice President Pence when the high-level decision was being made for the U.S. to finally and officially recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. “I remember telling them that God would honor this historic moment in the history of the United States as a people and a country,” he said. “And looking back, who would have thought that it would line up like it has? But God knew.”
Nonetheless, he said, there is a rising anti-Israel bias across the U.S. and beyond seeking to thwart the positive momentum. “We’re seeing it in the media, and we’re seeing it in the courts of world opinion,” he said, noting that there has been a concerted effort “to de-legitimize Israel as a nation-state, and de-legitimize Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish nation-state.”
Sekulow explained that he and his team researched and prepared the book “anticipating every question we could think of that would represent the other side of the issue concerning Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. We take the position biblically, historically, and even prophetically that Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the Jewish people. But there is a whole body of people that completely disagree. And you have to anticipate what they are going to say.”
