  • 00:09:28.424 --> 00:09:32.061
  • Paul knew that the continuation of christianity depended upon
  • 00:09:32.061 --> 00:09:35.131
  • Him having someone to carry on his teaching after he died.
  • 00:09:35.131 --> 00:09:40.302
  • My friend, bill spears, who is a member of our church,
  • 00:09:40.302 --> 00:09:43.406
  • Has a great saying, i repeat it all the time.
  • 00:09:43.406 --> 00:09:46.142
  • "success without succession is failure."
  • 00:09:46.142 --> 00:09:51.514
  • A wise ceo is one who realizes his time in the seat is limited,
  • 00:09:51.514 --> 00:09:55.985
  • He better prepare for somebody who's going to succeed him.
  • 00:09:55.985 --> 00:09:59.689
  • And that's true for us who are christians.
  • 00:09:59.689 --> 00:10:02.324
  • You know, dr. crystal used to say all the time, i remember him
  • 00:10:02.324 --> 00:10:05.094
  • Saying this all the time, "every civilization is only one
  • 00:10:05.094 --> 00:10:10.099
  • Generation away from paganism."
  • 00:10:10.099 --> 00:10:13.302
  • Every civilization only one generation away from paganism.
  • 00:10:13.302 --> 00:10:16.906
  • If we fail to pass on the christian truth to the next
  • 00:10:16.906 --> 00:10:20.109
  • Generation, we become a pagan people.
  • 00:10:20.109 --> 00:10:24.213
  • And that's what discipleship is.
  • 00:10:24.213 --> 00:10:25.648
  • It is investing our lives and instilling god's word
  • 00:10:25.648 --> 00:10:29.618
  • In the lives of other people.
  • 00:10:29.618 --> 00:10:30.953
  • Of course, for those of us who are parents, our most important
  • 00:10:30.953 --> 00:10:33.689
  • Discipleship project is our own children.
  • 00:10:33.689 --> 00:10:37.159
  • To teach our children to follow god and to imitate christ,
  • 00:10:37.159 --> 00:10:41.397
  • But our children aren't our only discipleship project.
  • 00:10:41.397 --> 00:10:45.501
  • We need to be entrusting our faith to other men and women
  • 00:10:45.501 --> 00:10:48.871
  • Who will carry on the faith.
  • 00:10:48.871 --> 00:10:51.006
  • Jesus knew his time was limited, he didn't have any natural
  • 00:10:51.006 --> 00:10:54.176
  • Children, but he decided to pass along his faith to 12 men who
  • 00:10:54.176 --> 00:10:59.448
  • Would be entrusted with the christian faith to spread it
  • 00:10:59.448 --> 00:11:03.619
  • Throughout the world.
  • 00:11:03.619 --> 00:11:05.321
  • And so he needed guidance from his heavenly father,
  • 00:11:05.321 --> 00:11:08.324
  • "which 12 men should i choose?"
  • 00:11:08.324 --> 00:11:11.494
  • And so he goes and has an all-night prayer meeting
  • 00:11:11.494 --> 00:11:14.697
  • For god's wisdom in making the right choice.
  • 00:11:14.697 --> 00:11:18.334
  • Now, i could get real sanctimonious here if i wanted
  • 00:11:18.334 --> 00:11:20.770
  • To, and i could say, what is it you're so concerned about that
  • 00:11:20.770 --> 00:11:25.241
  • You've ever stayed up all night and prayed about?
  • 00:11:25.241 --> 00:11:28.377
  • I could do that if i wanted to, but i'd be a hypocrite.
  • 00:11:28.377 --> 00:11:31.380
  • Because the fact is, i have never purposefully stayed up
  • 00:11:31.380 --> 00:11:36.185
  • All night to pray about something.
  • 00:11:36.185 --> 00:11:39.722
  • Now, i have had times when i couldn't go to sleep at night,
  • 00:11:39.722 --> 00:11:43.192
  • And when i was so concerned about something that i would
  • 00:11:43.192 --> 00:11:45.494
  • Pray and then i would drift off to sleep for a little bit, and
  • 00:11:45.494 --> 00:11:48.063
  • Then i would wake up and start praying about it again
  • 00:11:48.063 --> 00:11:50.099
  • And drift off to sleep.
  • 00:11:50.099 --> 00:11:51.600
  • Many of us have had that experience, but honestly,
  • 00:11:51.600 --> 00:11:54.069
  • I've not stayed up all night purposefully to pray.
  • 00:11:54.069 --> 00:11:57.540
  • So i'm not gonna ask you that question.
  • 00:11:57.540 --> 00:11:59.341
  • Here's the question i am going to ask you.
  • 00:11:59.341 --> 00:12:02.111
  • What are you so concerned about in your life right now that you
  • 00:12:02.111 --> 00:12:06.582
  • Would devote just five minutes a day to pray for?
  • 00:12:06.582 --> 00:12:12.888
  • Is there anything in your life, your children, your work,
  • 00:12:12.888 --> 00:12:19.995
  • The health concern of a friend or yourself, anything that
  • 00:12:19.995 --> 00:12:24.033
  • You're willing to spend five uninterrupted minutes
  • 00:12:24.033 --> 00:12:27.269
  • A day praying for?
  • 00:12:27.269 --> 00:12:29.305
  • Jesus knew how important prayer was, and so he prayed all night
  • 00:12:29.305 --> 00:12:34.410
  • And the result, verse 13, "and when day came, he called his
  • 00:12:34.410 --> 00:12:38.681
  • Disciples to him and he chose twelve of them, whom he also
  • 00:12:38.681 --> 00:12:44.053
  • Named as apostles."
  • 00:12:44.053 --> 00:12:46.856
  • Now lemme say a word.
  • 00:12:46.856 --> 00:12:48.324
  • You might wanna write this down about the difference between
  • 00:12:48.324 --> 00:12:50.226
  • A disciple and an apostle.
  • 00:12:50.226 --> 00:12:52.995
  • A disciple is a follower of a rabbi.
  • 00:12:52.995 --> 00:12:56.966
  • A disciple is somebody who is so enthralled with a rabbi that
  • 00:12:56.966 --> 00:13:00.936
  • He seeks to imitate not just his words, but his example.
  • 00:13:00.936 --> 00:13:04.773
  • To be a disciple of jesus means to model your attitudes,
  • 00:13:04.773 --> 00:13:09.345
  • Actions, and affections after jesus.
  • 00:13:09.345 --> 00:13:12.781
  • It means to love what jesus loved, act like jesus acted,
  • 00:13:12.781 --> 00:13:16.485
  • Think like jesus thought in every situation.
  • 00:13:16.485 --> 00:13:20.623
  • The simple definition i gave you a few months ago of a disciple
  • 00:13:20.623 --> 00:13:23.626
  • Is this; to be a disciple means for me to live my life as jesus
  • 00:13:23.626 --> 00:13:30.666
  • Would live my life if he were i, how would jesus operate
  • 00:13:30.666 --> 00:13:34.436
  • If he had your job?
  • 00:13:34.436 --> 00:13:38.007
  • How would jesus relate to your family members?
  • 00:13:38.007 --> 00:13:41.110
  • How would jesus relate to your friends?
  • 00:13:41.110 --> 00:13:43.779
  • How would jesus handle the amount of money he's entrusted
  • 00:13:43.779 --> 00:13:45.981
  • To you?
  • 00:13:45.981 --> 00:13:47.416
  • That's what it means to be a disciple.
  • 00:13:47.416 --> 00:13:49.952
  • But out of the disciples came 12 apostles, these are the ones who
  • 00:13:49.952 --> 00:13:55.491
  • Would be sent forth a unique group to proclaim the message
  • 00:13:55.491 --> 00:13:59.194
  • Of jesus to the jews and the gentiles.
  • 00:13:59.194 --> 00:14:02.932
  • Now, i could spend sermon after sermon talking about these
  • 00:14:02.932 --> 00:14:06.302
  • Apostles, i'm not going to do that.
  • 00:14:06.302 --> 00:14:08.504
  • Let me just give you three observation about the list you
  • 00:14:08.504 --> 00:14:12.875
  • Find in verses 12 to 14, and you find the similar list
  • 00:14:12.875 --> 00:14:16.545
  • In matthew and mark.
  • 00:14:16.545 --> 00:14:18.514
  • Number one, the lists begin with simon peter.
  • 00:14:18.514 --> 00:14:22.551
  • All three lists of the apostles begin with peter.
  • 00:14:22.551 --> 00:14:25.321
  • He was the leader, but you know what?
  • 00:14:25.321 --> 00:14:27.856
  • What's interesting?
  • 00:14:27.856 --> 00:14:29.191
  • He was the greatest failure of all of the apostles.
  • 00:14:29.191 --> 00:14:31.393
  • Here's a guy who denied jesus, not once or twice,
  • 00:14:31.393 --> 00:14:33.996
  • But three different times.
  • 00:14:33.996 --> 00:14:36.231
  • He was a major screw up as an apostle, and yet jesus chose him
  • 00:14:36.231 --> 00:14:42.204
  • To be the leader.
  • 00:14:42.204 --> 00:14:43.706
  • Doesn't that give you hope?
  • 00:14:43.706 --> 00:14:45.274
  • It doesn't matter how much you failed, what is in your past?
  • 00:14:45.274 --> 00:14:48.544
  • God can take your mistakes, forgive them, and redeem them.
  • 00:14:48.544 --> 00:14:52.915
  • Peter is at the beginning of every list.
  • 00:14:52.915 --> 00:14:55.484
  • Secondly, the list ends with judas iscariot.
  • 00:14:55.484 --> 00:15:00.055
  • You know, iscariot e--is comes from the hebrew word ishman,
  • 00:15:00.055 --> 00:15:05.928
  • Cariot is probably a derivation of kerioth, the town of judea.
  • 00:15:05.928 --> 00:15:10.165
  • Judas, the man of kerioth.
  • 00:15:10.165 --> 00:15:13.135
  • We all know about judas, he's the one who betrayed jesus
  • 00:15:13.135 --> 00:15:16.939
  • For 30 pieces of silver and led to his crucifixion.
  • 00:15:16.939 --> 00:15:20.409
  • Now at first reading, we have to think, well,
  • 00:15:20.409 --> 00:15:22.111
  • Why did jesus choose judas?
  • 00:15:22.111 --> 00:15:25.147
  • Did he make a mistake?
  • 00:15:25.147 --> 00:15:27.182
  • Maybe jesus should have spent even longer praying about this
  • 00:15:27.182 --> 00:15:29.418
  • Selection so he didn't make a mistake like judas.
  • 00:15:29.418 --> 00:15:33.355
  • No, all of this was a part of god's plan.
  • 00:15:33.355 --> 00:15:37.426
  • Jesus chose judas for a reason because jesus knew god could use
  • 00:15:37.426 --> 00:15:41.797
  • The evil in judas's own heart to accomplish his purpose.
  • 00:15:41.797 --> 00:15:46.001
  • I'm gonna say more about that in a moment.
  • 00:15:46.001 --> 00:15:47.903
  • But god can take evil people, he can take evil circumstances that
  • 00:15:47.903 --> 00:15:52.908
  • Are used against you, and he can still use those for your good
  • 00:15:52.908 --> 00:15:56.678
  • And his eternal purpose.
  • 00:15:56.678 --> 00:15:59.148
  • The final thing i noticed about this list is they are comprised
  • 00:15:59.148 --> 00:16:02.418
  • Of young men.
  • 00:16:02.418 --> 00:16:04.086
  • You know, when we think about the apostles, we think about
  • 00:16:04.086 --> 00:16:05.954
  • These, you know, old white guys with beards, you know,
  • 00:16:05.954 --> 00:16:09.458
  • And think the 60, 70-year-olds, no.
  • 00:16:09.458 --> 00:16:13.095
  • Most bible scholars believe these men were probably in their
  • 00:16:13.095 --> 00:16:15.764
  • Late teenage years, early 20s at the most when
  • 00:16:15.764 --> 00:16:19.168
  • They were chosen to be apostles.
  • 00:16:19.168 --> 00:16:22.704
  • Now, having said all of that, let's look at verse 17,
  • 00:16:22.704 --> 00:16:25.641
  • Or verse 17 tells us that when jesus descended to a plane,
  • 00:16:25.641 --> 00:16:30.646
  • There was a great multitude of his followers there.
  • 00:16:30.646 --> 00:16:33.549
  • And verse 20 says, "turning his gaze on his disciples."
  • 00:16:33.549 --> 00:16:39.321
  • What i want you to notice is this message we're gonna look at
  • 00:16:39.321 --> 00:16:41.723
  • For just a few moments is not a message for the unsaved.
  • 00:16:41.723 --> 00:16:46.228
  • There's nothing in this passage that will tell you how to go to
  • 00:16:46.228 --> 00:16:48.564
  • Heaven when you die.
  • 00:16:48.564 --> 00:16:50.099
  • There's nothing about god's forgiveness through jesus or the
  • 00:16:50.099 --> 00:16:52.734
  • Cross or the blood of christ, this was a message for his
  • 00:16:52.734 --> 00:16:56.338
  • Disciples, his followers.
  • 00:16:56.338 --> 00:17:00.008
  • You know, it's interesting, jesus was in the midst of
  • 00:17:00.008 --> 00:17:02.277
  • Relentless criticism from the pharisees, but jesus did not
  • 00:17:02.277 --> 00:17:06.515
  • Spend his time answering the criticism of the pharisees.
  • 00:17:06.515 --> 00:17:10.919
  • In fact, in this passage, jesus doesn't try to answer the
  • 00:17:10.919 --> 00:17:13.755
  • Pharisees, instead, he invest his time with his disciples,
  • 00:17:13.755 --> 00:17:19.461
  • His followers.
  • 00:17:19.461 --> 00:17:20.796
  • And here's a great leadership principle that won't cost you
  • 00:17:20.796 --> 00:17:23.065
  • Anything extra, but i want you to write it down.
  • 00:17:23.065 --> 00:17:26.201
  • Here's a mark of a true leader.
  • 00:17:26.201 --> 00:17:28.370
  • A true leader in--doesn't invest his time with problem people,
  • 00:17:28.370 --> 00:17:34.743
  • He invests his time with people with potential.
  • 00:17:34.743 --> 00:17:38.514
  • Lemme say it again.
  • 00:17:38.514 --> 00:17:40.048
  • A real effective leader invests his time not with people with
  • 00:17:40.048 --> 00:17:43.886
  • Problems, but people with potential.
  • 00:17:43.886 --> 00:17:47.823
  • He doesn't invest his time with people who are causing trouble
  • 00:17:47.823 --> 00:17:50.859
  • And are upset all the time, he invests his time with the people
  • 00:17:50.859 --> 00:17:54.163
  • Who have potential.
  • 00:17:54.163 --> 00:17:56.098
  • You see that over and over again.
  • 00:17:56.098 --> 00:17:57.533
  • The mistake of focusing your attention on people who just
  • 00:17:57.533 --> 00:18:01.603
  • Have problems.
  • 00:18:01.603 --> 00:18:03.338
  • You know, we see this in families.
  • 00:18:03.338 --> 00:18:04.940
  • There's a problem child in the family, the parent devotes
  • 00:18:04.940 --> 00:18:08.143
  • All the attention and emotional issue to this child with the
  • 00:18:08.143 --> 00:18:11.246
  • Problems and neglects the rest of the children in the family
  • 00:18:11.246 --> 00:18:14.283
  • Who have great potential.
  • 00:18:14.283 --> 00:18:16.285
  • Or you see this in businesses.
  • 00:18:16.285 --> 00:18:17.853
  • A business is all hung up on this one or two problem
  • 00:18:17.853 --> 00:18:21.690
  • Disgruntled customer they have, and they forget all of the
  • 00:18:21.690 --> 00:18:25.694
  • Potential customers they could be devoting
  • 00:18:25.694 --> 00:18:27.796
  • Their resources toward.
  • 00:18:27.796 --> 00:18:29.731
  • You see this in a church, i see this time and time again
  • 00:18:29.731 --> 00:18:32.734
  • In churches.
  • 00:18:32.734 --> 00:18:34.136
  • A church has a little handful of disgruntled members and the
  • 00:18:34.136 --> 00:18:37.272
  • Leaders of the church are focused on
  • 00:18:37.272 --> 00:18:39.174
  • These disgruntled members.
  • 00:18:39.174 --> 00:18:40.676
  • "oh, what did we do to offend you?
  • 00:18:40.676 --> 00:18:42.578
  • Or what could we do to make you happy?"
  • 00:18:42.578 --> 00:18:44.680
  • And the pastor stands up and he focuses on that little group,
  • 00:18:44.680 --> 00:18:47.950
  • And he's just lambasting them week after week after week
  • 00:18:47.950 --> 00:18:51.186
  • Forgetting that 99% of the people in the church are happy
  • 00:18:51.186 --> 00:18:54.223
  • With the church, they're excited about what's going on,
  • 00:18:54.223 --> 00:18:57.059
  • But he focuses on the few with problems.
  • 00:18:57.059 --> 00:18:59.962
  • Again, a real leader is somebody who doesn't focus his attention
  • 00:18:59.962 --> 00:19:04.499
  • On people who are causing problems, but people with
  • 00:19:04.499 --> 00:19:07.636
  • Potential, and that's what jesus did.
  • 00:19:07.636 --> 00:19:09.538
  • He focused this message on the ones who would carry on
  • 00:19:09.538 --> 00:19:12.507
  • His faith long after he had ascended back into heaven.
  • 00:19:12.507 --> 00:19:16.578
  • And that brings us to the substance of the sermon
  • 00:19:16.578 --> 00:19:19.681
  • Beginning in verse 20.
  • 00:19:19.681 --> 00:19:22.417
  • Let me remind you, this is just a summary of the sermon
  • 00:19:22.417 --> 00:19:25.854
  • On the mount.
  • 00:19:25.854 --> 00:19:27.222
  • You find a longer version in verse--in matthew 5 through 7.
  • 00:19:27.222 --> 00:19:31.360
  • This is a short version of it.
  • 00:19:31.360 --> 00:19:33.328
  • Some people get hung up on that.
  • 00:19:33.328 --> 00:19:34.896
  • "wait a minute, pastor, why are the accounts different?"
  • 00:19:34.896 --> 00:19:38.333
  • It's just a summary.
  • 00:19:38.333 --> 00:19:40.669
  • You know, in the english language we have quotation
  • 00:19:40.669 --> 00:19:43.105
  • Marks, and in your text it probably shows quotation marks.
  • 00:19:43.105 --> 00:19:47.342
  • In the english language, quotation marks means this is a
  • 00:19:47.342 --> 00:19:50.946
  • Word for word, exact quotation of what somebody said.
  • 00:19:50.946 --> 00:19:54.983
  • In the greek language, there were no quotation marks.
  • 00:19:54.983 --> 00:19:58.420
  • This is an indirect paraphrase of what jesus said, and that's
  • 00:19:58.420 --> 00:20:02.724
  • Why luke emphasizes some things that matthew doesn't.
  • 00:20:02.724 --> 00:20:06.895
  • Matthew emphasizes something that jesus doesn't.
  • 00:20:06.895 --> 00:20:09.431
  • So don't get hung up on that.
  • 00:20:09.431 --> 00:20:11.300
  • This is a paraphrase of what jesus said.
  • 00:20:11.300 --> 00:20:14.369
  • Now, having said that, remember the theme.
  • 00:20:14.369 --> 00:20:16.772
  • When we know what jesus knows, we can be generous,
  • 00:20:16.772 --> 00:20:19.641
  • First of all, in our attitude toward difficult circumstances.
  • 00:20:19.641 --> 00:20:23.578
  • Let's just look at some of these.
  • 00:20:23.578 --> 00:20:25.213
  • Verse 20, "and turning his gaze on his disciples, he began to
  • 00:20:25.213 --> 00:20:29.051
  • Say, 'blessed,'" literally happy, "are you who are poor,
  • 00:20:29.051 --> 00:20:34.589
  • For yours is the kingdom of god."
  • 00:20:34.589 --> 00:20:37.125
  • Now he's not talking about material poverty.
  • 00:20:37.125 --> 00:20:39.895
  • There's nothing blessed about being
  • 00:20:39.895 --> 00:20:41.730
  • Poor financially automatically.
  • 00:20:41.730 --> 00:20:44.933
  • Matthew adds the words, blessed are the poor in spirit.
  • 00:20:44.933 --> 00:20:50.672
  • That is blessed, happy or those of you
  • 00:20:50.672 --> 00:20:53.008
  • Who recognize your spiritual poverty.
  • 00:20:53.008 --> 00:20:56.011
  • I like the way one commentator says it.
  • 00:20:56.011 --> 00:20:57.879
  • "blessed are those who realize they are spiritual zeroes,
  • 00:20:57.879 --> 00:21:03.318
  • For one day yours will be the kingdom of god."
  • 00:21:03.318 --> 00:21:05.787
  • Do you ever feel like a spiritual zero?
  • 00:21:05.787 --> 00:21:08.357
  • You just feel like you're not succeeding
  • 00:21:08.357 --> 00:21:09.891
  • In your christian life?
  • 00:21:09.891 --> 00:21:11.360
  • You know you ought to pray more and read the bible more, but you
  • 00:21:11.360 --> 00:21:13.795
  • Just can't do it, and you don't react like you should and you
  • 00:21:13.795 --> 00:21:16.631
  • Wish you could be better than you are?
  • 00:21:16.631 --> 00:21:19.401
  • He said relax, be happy because one day that struggle you have
  • 00:21:19.401 --> 00:21:25.107
  • In your christian life is gonna be satisfied, yours is going to
  • 00:21:25.107 --> 00:21:28.477
  • Be the kingdom of god.
  • 00:21:28.477 --> 00:21:30.278
  • In verse 21, "blessed," happy, "are you who hunger now,
  • 00:21:30.278 --> 00:21:33.482
  • For you shall be satisfied."
  • 00:21:33.482 --> 00:21:36.318
  • Again, another version says, "blessed are you who hunger and
  • 00:21:36.318 --> 00:21:39.621
  • Thirst for righteousness."
  • 00:21:39.621 --> 00:21:42.557
  • He's talking about a spiritual hunger
  • 00:21:42.557 --> 00:21:44.259
  • And thirst for righteousness.
  • 00:21:44.259 --> 00:21:47.195
  • Do you ever wish we lived in a world where justice reigned?
  • 00:21:47.195 --> 00:21:50.966
  • Do you wish we had a world where there was no dallas
  • 00:21:50.966 --> 00:21:54.369
  • Or baton rouge or terrorist attacks?
  • 00:21:54.369 --> 00:21:58.273
  • Do you wish there was a world in which evil would be overcome
  • 00:21:58.273 --> 00:22:02.110
  • By good every time?
  • 00:22:02.110 --> 00:22:04.346
  • That's what he's talking about.
  • 00:22:04.346 --> 00:22:05.747
  • "blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
  • 00:22:05.747 --> 00:22:09.518
  • For one day you will be satisfied."
  • 00:22:09.518 --> 00:22:13.355
  • One day the tables are going to be turned and god is going to
  • 00:22:13.355 --> 00:22:16.057
  • Right the wrongs of this world.
  • 00:22:16.057 --> 00:22:18.560
  • He goes on to say, "blessed" happy, "are those of you who
  • 00:22:18.560 --> 00:22:21.163
  • Weep now, for you shall laugh."
  • 00:22:21.163 --> 00:22:26.435
  • There's nothing more painful than losing a loved one.
  • 00:22:26.435 --> 00:22:30.739
  • Losing a loved one through death is painful.
  • 00:22:30.739 --> 00:22:33.775
  • I've come to believe even more painful is losing a loved one
  • 00:22:33.775 --> 00:22:37.679
  • Through defection, their heart turns cold towards you.
  • 00:22:37.679 --> 00:22:42.451
  • They desert you, they leave you.
  • 00:22:42.451 --> 00:22:44.853
  • Many of you have suffered a loss of a loved one either
  • 00:22:44.853 --> 00:22:47.722
  • Through death or defection.
  • 00:22:47.722 --> 00:22:49.524
  • He said, "blessed are those of you who weep right now for one
  • 00:22:49.524 --> 00:22:52.761
  • Day, eventually you will laugh."
  • 00:22:52.761 --> 00:22:55.697
  • Remember, when you know what jesus knows about the future,
  • 00:22:55.697 --> 00:23:00.302
  • You can be generous even about loss.
  • 00:23:00.302 --> 00:23:03.371
  • Jeffress: at first, these words from jesus may sound like
  • 00:23:07.509 --> 00:23:09.845
  • A paradox, but those who suffer here on earth will be blessed
  • 00:23:09.845 --> 00:23:14.583
  • Eternally in heaven.
  • 00:23:14.583 --> 00:23:16.918
  • Now, in closing, i wanna share an encouraging note from mitch
  • 00:23:16.918 --> 00:23:20.222
  • In north carolina.
  • 00:23:20.222 --> 00:23:21.756
  • He wrote, "i love pathway to victory because i know you are
  • 00:23:21.756 --> 00:23:25.260
  • Sharing god's word to a country that needs it.
  • 00:23:25.260 --> 00:23:28.697
  • Your teaching and encouragement mean more than you
  • 00:23:28.697 --> 00:23:31.466
  • Will ever know.
  • 00:23:31.466 --> 00:23:32.834
  • I attend church to worship every sunday, but i am able to worship
  • 00:23:32.834 --> 00:23:36.705
  • Every day with you through pathway to victory."
  • 00:23:36.705 --> 00:23:40.308
  • Well, thank you for those words of encouragement, mitch.
  • 00:23:40.308 --> 00:23:43.311
  • It's testimonies like this that remind me why this ministry
  • 00:23:43.311 --> 00:23:47.482
  • Matters so much.
  • 00:23:47.482 --> 00:23:49.451
  • When you support "pathway to victory," you're helping people
  • 00:23:49.451 --> 00:23:52.254

  • And a nation in deep spiritual need with the transforming truth
  • 00:25:44.766 --> 00:25:48.770
  • Of god's word.
  • 00:25:48.770 --> 00:25:51.906
  • Jeffress: if you believe this world is all there is, then
  • 00:25:51.973 --> 00:25:55.343
  • Jesus's sermon on the mount makes no sense.
  • 00:25:55.343 --> 00:25:58.947
  • But when you know what jesus knows about the future, you can
  • 00:25:58.947 --> 00:26:01.983
  • Be generous in your attitude toward difficult circumstances.
  • 00:26:01.983 --> 00:26:07.055
  • Well, circumstances aren't the only thing that can be
  • 00:26:07.055 --> 00:26:09.691
  • Difficult, people can test our patience as well.
  • 00:26:09.691 --> 00:26:13.662
  • And next time, we'll look at several practical ways for
  • 00:26:13.662 --> 00:26:16.898
  • Dealing with problematic people stemming from
  • 00:26:16.898 --> 00:26:19.868
  • Jesus's teaching in the sermon on the mount.
  • 00:26:19.868 --> 00:26:22.904
  • Stay tuned for a preview of what's coming up next on
  • 00:26:22.904 --> 00:26:26.141
  • "pathway to victory."
  • 00:26:26.141 --> 00:26:28.176
  • Jeffress: every one of us here today is building
  • 00:26:29.210 --> 00:26:31.680
  • Some kind of life.
  • 00:26:31.680 --> 00:26:33.381
  • We have a limited amount of time, energy, resources.
  • 00:26:33.381 --> 00:26:37.786
  • You can build a life built around material accumulation,
  • 00:26:37.786 --> 00:26:42.657
  • Or you can build your life around not just hearing
  • 00:26:42.657 --> 00:26:46.728
  • But applying jesus's words.
  • 00:26:46.728 --> 00:26:49.497
