  • Struggle that i had years ago where i lived in excruciating
  • 00:00:23.446 --> 00:00:26.716
  • Chronic pain for nearly two years, and i just had to say,
  • 00:00:26.716 --> 00:00:30.753
  • "lord, please walk me through this.
  • 00:00:30.753 --> 00:00:32.122

  • We're glad you're here. we have an exciting guest.
  • 00:00:56.846 --> 00:01:00.049
  • Blynda lane: it's one of my favorites.
  • 00:01:00.049 --> 00:01:01.384
  • I'm so excited.
  • 00:01:01.384 --> 00:01:02.719
  • It's shannon bream from fox news sundays.
  • 00:01:02.719 --> 00:01:04.988
  • You might have watched her podcast "living the bream."
  • 00:01:04.988 --> 00:01:08.358
  • She has written a book called "nothing is impossible
  • 00:01:08.358 --> 00:01:10.360
  • With god."
  • 00:01:10.360 --> 00:01:11.728
  • She also has written "women of the bible speak."
  • 00:01:11.728 --> 00:01:13.396
  • She's just a great author.
  • 00:01:13.396 --> 00:01:14.731
  • She's obviously a great news commentator.
  • 00:01:14.731 --> 00:01:16.866
  • But we have her on the show today, and we get to talk about
  • 00:01:16.866 --> 00:01:20.303
  • How she's had some really incredible experiences with the
  • 00:01:20.303 --> 00:01:23.173
  • Lord where she has seen the impossible become possible.
  • 00:01:23.173 --> 00:01:26.042
  • Randy: yes, she has, and we're excited.
  • 00:01:26.042 --> 00:01:27.410
  • She's been on before, and we're glad to have her back.
  • 00:01:27.410 --> 00:01:30.313
  • So, shannon bream, welcome to "life today."
  • 00:01:30.313 --> 00:01:33.683
  • Shannon: thank you so much.
  • 00:01:33.683 --> 00:01:35.018
  • Great to be with you guys.
  • 00:01:35.018 --> 00:01:36.352
  • Randy: so, let's talk about the book, "nothing is impossible
  • 00:01:36.352 --> 00:01:39.222
  • With god."
  • 00:01:39.222 --> 00:01:40.590
  • I'm excited, you know, as someone who's on fox news, it's
  • 00:01:40.590 --> 00:01:44.027
  • Exciting to us to hear you saying the things you're saying.
  • 00:01:44.027 --> 00:01:49.165
  • You're such a great witness.
  • 00:01:49.165 --> 00:01:50.967
  • How is this for you to be able to share this with people?
  • 00:01:50.967 --> 00:01:54.304
  • Shannon: well, thank you so much.
  • 00:01:54.304 --> 00:01:55.672
  • You know, when fox came to me a few years ago about writing the
  • 00:01:55.672 --> 00:01:58.074
  • Book "women of the bible speak," they said, "we know your faith
  • 00:01:58.074 --> 00:02:00.710
  • Is important to you, we're thinking about putting together
  • 00:02:00.710 --> 00:02:02.779
  • A book label and maybe doing something with women and
  • 00:02:02.779 --> 00:02:04.981
  • Religion," so i'm just so grateful to them, it was
  • 00:02:04.981 --> 00:02:07.417
  • Their idea.
  • 00:02:07.417 --> 00:02:08.785
  • And it's given me so many opportunities just to share my
  • 00:02:08.785 --> 00:02:11.321
  • Faith, to share the good news of christ, and i'm really grateful
  • 00:02:11.321 --> 00:02:13.856
  • For that.
  • 00:02:13.856 --> 00:02:15.225
  • Blynda: okay, so the book talks about that there are 11 heroes,
  • 00:02:15.225 --> 00:02:19.329
  • 1 god, endless lessons in overcoming.
  • 00:02:19.329 --> 00:02:22.332
  • So you go through this old and new testament, picking people
  • 00:02:22.332 --> 00:02:25.635
  • Who are everyday people, but they are heroes of the faith
  • 00:02:25.635 --> 00:02:28.171
  • To us.
  • 00:02:28.171 --> 00:02:29.539
  • But what i love about it is you really focus on the fact that
  • 00:02:29.539 --> 00:02:31.808
  • Each of them had an obstacle to overcome.
  • 00:02:31.808 --> 00:02:34.077
  • Why was that the direction you wanted to go for the book?
  • 00:02:34.077 --> 00:02:37.981
  • Shannon: you know, each time you put together a book or a
  • 00:02:37.981 --> 00:02:41.417
  • Special speech or something else, there are always things
  • 00:02:41.417 --> 00:02:43.219
  • That you can't include everything.
  • 00:02:43.219 --> 00:02:45.054
  • Something gets left out.
  • 00:02:45.054 --> 00:02:46.422
  • And i just had this collection of these stories of overcomers
  • 00:02:46.422 --> 00:02:48.491
  • Really built off gideon, because it's always been one of my
  • 00:02:48.491 --> 00:02:50.693
  • Favorite, most encouraging stories.
  • 00:02:50.693 --> 00:02:52.729
  • And like you said, these are all different things that
  • 00:02:52.729 --> 00:02:54.897
  • People faced.
  • 00:02:54.897 --> 00:02:56.266
  • Sometimes they were external, i mean, really going into battle,
  • 00:02:56.266 --> 00:02:58.334
  • Physical war.
  • 00:02:58.334 --> 00:02:59.702
  • Sometimes it was self-doubt or their own mistakes or rebellion.
  • 00:02:59.702 --> 00:03:02.705
  • I mean, we can all relate on some level, and we all know what
  • 00:03:02.705 --> 00:03:05.742
  • It's like to have something to overcome.
  • 00:03:05.742 --> 00:03:07.710
  • So i love that common thread with all of these stories, and
  • 00:03:07.710 --> 00:03:10.947
  • Just like us, they are flawed, they're human.
  • 00:03:10.947 --> 00:03:12.982
  • The bible doesn't try to make them perfect superheroes, but it
  • 00:03:12.982 --> 00:03:16.919
  • Lets us see that their flaws were real and that they
  • 00:03:16.919 --> 00:03:19.322
  • Had doubts.
  • 00:03:19.322 --> 00:03:20.657
  • Sometimes they argued with the lord, which, you know, i laugh
  • 00:03:20.657 --> 00:03:22.759
  • At, like, how dare you, you know, try to reason with the
  • 00:03:22.759 --> 00:03:26.229
  • Creator of the universe?
  • 00:03:26.229 --> 00:03:27.597
  • But then i remember, oh yeah, i do that too.
  • 00:03:27.597 --> 00:03:30.166
  • So, i think that the stories are good mirrors for our own lives,
  • 00:03:30.166 --> 00:03:33.436
  • And places to see where we could find god's strength and have a
  • 00:03:33.436 --> 00:03:37.340
  • Strengthening of our faith to walk with him through
  • 00:03:37.340 --> 00:03:39.309
  • Tough things.
  • 00:03:39.309 --> 00:03:40.643
  • Randy: no doubt, no doubt.
  • 00:03:40.643 --> 00:03:42.011
  • Now, you do talk about many people in the bible, but you
  • 00:03:42.011 --> 00:03:44.247
  • Also share some of your own personal struggles, and that can
  • 00:03:44.247 --> 00:03:48.918
  • Be hard, sometimes, to open up, but what have you been through
  • 00:03:48.918 --> 00:03:52.255
  • Where you've had to say, "god, is this possible?"
  • 00:03:52.255 --> 00:03:55.191
  • And then find out, yeah, he can do anything?
  • 00:03:55.191 --> 00:03:58.428
  • Shannon: yeah, i write about in the book that i have shared
  • 00:03:58.428 --> 00:04:01.164
  • Openly about a really difficult physical struggle that i had
  • 00:04:01.164 --> 00:04:03.900
  • Years ago where i lived in excruciating chronic pain for
  • 00:04:03.900 --> 00:04:07.470
  • Nearly two years before i finally got a diagnosis and a
  • 00:04:07.470 --> 00:04:10.273
  • Doctor who, i say to this doctor, "you're an answer
  • 00:04:10.273 --> 00:04:12.408
  • To prayer."
  • 00:04:12.408 --> 00:04:13.810
  • And it was a really difficult time because it got very dark.
  • 00:04:13.810 --> 00:04:16.546
  • If you've lived with an ongoing condition, emotional, physical,
  • 00:04:16.546 --> 00:04:19.549
  • Whatever it is, or someone that you love, you've seen people
  • 00:04:19.549 --> 00:04:22.185
  • Really struggle, and it's difficult.
  • 00:04:22.185 --> 00:04:24.020
  • So verses that i knew, prayers that i'd prayed over the years,
  • 00:04:24.020 --> 00:04:28.858
  • They just came alive in a different way when i was in
  • 00:04:28.858 --> 00:04:30.993
  • That valley.
  • 00:04:30.993 --> 00:04:32.362
  • I would not choose the valley, but there was so much that came
  • 00:04:32.362 --> 00:04:34.964
  • From it, almost a bittersweet time, because you're growing
  • 00:04:34.964 --> 00:04:37.967
  • Closer to the lord.
  • 00:04:37.967 --> 00:04:39.335
  • He was really the only thing i had left to lean on.
  • 00:04:39.335 --> 00:04:41.671
  • And i thought so much about paul's story in corinthians
  • 00:04:41.671 --> 00:04:43.906
  • Where he's, you know, got this thorn in his side and he wants
  • 00:04:43.906 --> 00:04:46.376
  • It to go away.
  • 00:04:46.376 --> 00:04:47.710
  • We will pray for things and the lord answers us, but not always
  • 00:04:47.710 --> 00:04:50.480
  • The way that we would hope.
  • 00:04:50.480 --> 00:04:52.615
  • You know, when paul, you know, the lord says, "my strength is
  • 00:04:52.615 --> 00:04:55.118
  • Made perfect in your weakness," and paul goes on to say, "okay,
  • 00:04:55.118 --> 00:04:57.720
  • Then i will have those weaknesses rest on me so that
  • 00:04:57.720 --> 00:04:59.956
  • God's power, christ's power, can rest on me.
  • 00:04:59.956 --> 00:05:02.258
  • I'll brag about those weaknesses."
  • 00:05:02.258 --> 00:05:04.293
  • And i just had to say, "lord, please walk me through this.
  • 00:05:04.293 --> 00:05:07.063
  • If you're not going to heal me, please give me a way through."
  • 00:05:07.063 --> 00:05:09.966
  • And that was his message for me, not audibly, but i definitely
  • 00:05:09.966 --> 00:05:13.002
  • Heard in my spirit, as i was crying and praying through this,
  • 00:05:13.002 --> 00:05:16.172
  • At one point him say, "i will be with you."
  • 00:05:16.172 --> 00:05:18.541
  • And that's a phrase we see over and over again in his word, and
  • 00:05:18.541 --> 00:05:22.378
  • It's been true.
  • 00:05:22.378 --> 00:05:23.946
  • Blynda: it's so true.
  • 00:05:23.946 --> 00:05:25.314
  • And when you talk about the different characters in the
  • 00:05:25.314 --> 00:05:27.417
  • Bible, i can think of every story, there's elijah and jonah
  • 00:05:27.417 --> 00:05:30.853
  • And peter, they all have that moment where they have felt that
  • 00:05:30.853 --> 00:05:34.123
  • God is with them.
  • 00:05:34.123 --> 00:05:35.491
  • But i wanna just, really quick, ask you about peter, because i'm
  • 00:05:35.491 --> 00:05:38.628
  • Always fascinated by the peter story because he's someone who
  • 00:05:38.628 --> 00:05:42.965
  • Was like, "i would never deny you.
  • 00:05:42.965 --> 00:05:45.968
  • I will always be your," you know, "your right-hand guy."
  • 00:05:45.968 --> 00:05:49.238
  • And then like, as we know, very quickly he did deny him.
  • 00:05:49.238 --> 00:05:54.744
  • But what it does is it gives me as a believer hope that one, i
  • 00:05:54.744 --> 00:05:58.080
  • Can never do anything that takes me too far from god's
  • 00:05:58.080 --> 00:06:01.217
  • Forgiveness, but also, like, i don't have to live under shame.
  • 00:06:01.217 --> 00:06:05.688
  • I can be restored, i can be redeemed, and i don't have to be
  • 00:06:05.688 --> 00:06:10.193
  • Defined by my mistakes.
  • 00:06:10.193 --> 00:06:11.527
  • So why did the peter character, why was that so important
  • 00:06:11.527 --> 00:06:13.629
  • To you?
  • 00:06:13.629 --> 00:06:14.997
  • Shannon: yeah, exactly that, because we've all had moments
  • 00:06:14.997 --> 00:06:17.433
  • Where we weren't as vocal as we should have been about
  • 00:06:17.433 --> 00:06:19.368
  • Our faith.
  • 00:06:19.368 --> 00:06:20.703
  • We didn't speak up, we didn't stand firm.
  • 00:06:20.703 --> 00:06:22.071
  • We're human, and god knows our failures.
  • 00:06:22.071 --> 00:06:24.474
  • And i love that jesus went right to where peter had failed and,
  • 00:06:24.474 --> 00:06:28.878
  • You know, didn't condemn him and say, "hey, you let the world
  • 00:06:28.878 --> 00:06:33.115
  • Talk you into just turning your back on me in my hour of deepest
  • 00:06:33.115 --> 00:06:36.652
  • Need, multiple times after, yes, i told you you were gonna do it
  • 00:06:36.652 --> 00:06:39.856
  • And you said 'never.'"
  • 00:06:39.856 --> 00:06:41.224
  • He always used those very strong words, "always," "never."
  • 00:06:41.224 --> 00:06:44.760
  • Peter was very fiery and passionate.
  • 00:06:44.760 --> 00:06:46.462
  • But the lord didn't say, "you're sidelined for good now.
  • 00:06:46.462 --> 00:06:48.898
  • You failed, you made a horrible mistake, and you betrayed me."
  • 00:06:48.898 --> 00:06:51.234
  • He said, "come, i will redeem you, you're going to be the rock
  • 00:06:51.234 --> 00:06:54.704
  • On which i build the early church."
  • 00:06:54.704 --> 00:06:56.506
  • Peter obviously took up the charge and was bold in his faith
  • 00:06:56.506 --> 00:07:00.776
  • And in his defense of christ and the gospel, and was a
  • 00:07:00.776 --> 00:07:03.546
  • Martyr himself.
  • 00:07:03.546 --> 00:07:04.881
  • So i, like you, i find that so reassuring that no matter how
  • 00:07:04.881 --> 00:07:07.483
  • Much i've been unfaithful, he is always faithful.
  • 00:07:07.483 --> 00:07:10.286
  • And if i will come back to him in confession and in humility,
  • 00:07:10.286 --> 00:07:14.524
  • He's gonna restore me.
  • 00:07:14.524 --> 00:07:16.025
  • Randy: so you work in an environment that is often
  • 00:07:16.025 --> 00:07:17.927
  • Very divisive.
  • 00:07:17.927 --> 00:07:20.463
  • The news, you know, politics, that kind of thing.
  • 00:07:20.463 --> 00:07:23.266
  • But redemption cuts across all of that.
  • 00:07:23.266 --> 00:07:25.735
  • Are you getting some good response to that message?
  • 00:07:25.735 --> 00:07:29.205
  • Shannon: yes, and i think that, gosh, people are weary, like you
  • 00:07:29.205 --> 00:07:32.141
  • Said, divided, the world feels chaotic, and people have lost
  • 00:07:32.141 --> 00:07:36.913
  • Family friendships and friendships and relationships
  • 00:07:36.913 --> 00:07:39.715
  • Over being so divided over these really heated issues.
  • 00:07:39.715 --> 00:07:43.219
  • But the fact is, if we can look at each other as created in
  • 00:07:43.219 --> 00:07:46.355
  • God's image, every life valuable to him, loved equally by him,
  • 00:07:46.355 --> 00:07:50.626
  • Even people you deeply disagree with, and you don't compromise
  • 00:07:50.626 --> 00:07:53.796
  • Your principles, but you can love and respect people.
  • 00:07:53.796 --> 00:07:56.265
  • And i find that so much in jonah's story, because you know,
  • 00:07:56.265 --> 00:07:59.135
  • The lord tells him to go to nineveh, and i, as a little kid
  • 00:07:59.135 --> 00:08:02.471
  • Watching this on the flannelgraph with, you know, the
  • 00:08:02.471 --> 00:08:04.307
  • Whale and with jonah and the little boats growing up, i
  • 00:08:04.307 --> 00:08:07.543
  • Thought it was just about being fearful of nineveh, which he had
  • 00:08:07.543 --> 00:08:10.379
  • Every good reason to be because the assyrians were brutal,
  • 00:08:10.379 --> 00:08:13.449
  • Brutal people.
  • 00:08:13.449 --> 00:08:14.817
  • But it wasn't just that.
  • 00:08:14.817 --> 00:08:16.152
  • If you really dig into jonah's story, it's almost as if he
  • 00:08:16.152 --> 00:08:18.254
  • Feels they don't deserve the grace that he's been given.
  • 00:08:18.254 --> 00:08:22.291
  • And i feel like it should make us ask the question, is there
  • 00:08:22.291 --> 00:08:24.627
  • Somebody i think is undeserving of forgiveness, of god's grace?
  • 00:08:24.627 --> 00:08:28.531
  • Am i rebelling against god's command that we go to everyone?
  • 00:08:28.531 --> 00:08:32.001
  • And who am i to judge?
  • 00:08:32.001 --> 00:08:33.436
  • If god says "i want relationship with everyone, i want to redeem
  • 00:08:33.436 --> 00:08:37.273
  • Everyone possible who will come to me," we should be faithful to
  • 00:08:37.273 --> 00:08:40.343
  • Do that even if in our judgment, somebody we think is unworthy.
  • 00:08:40.343 --> 00:08:44.847
  • Randy: so true.
  • 00:08:44.847 --> 00:08:46.182
  • Blynda: and it's hard to do, because we do live in what feels
  • 00:08:46.182 --> 00:08:48.351
  • Like a divided time.
  • 00:08:48.351 --> 00:08:50.086
  • But truly, as believers, we have to be the bridge, right?
  • 00:08:50.086 --> 00:08:53.756
  • I know that as believers it's easy to get this thought in our
  • 00:08:53.756 --> 00:08:57.927
  • Mind that once we decide to give our lives over to christ,
  • 00:08:57.927 --> 00:09:03.165
  • Everything's gonna be roses from there.
  • 00:09:03.165 --> 00:09:04.934
  • We're gonna be really able to just walk this life easy.
  • 00:09:04.934 --> 00:09:08.170
  • And i think the fact that you've had to write a book that talks
  • 00:09:08.170 --> 00:09:11.207
  • About that nothing's impossible with god tells us that there's
  • 00:09:11.207 --> 00:09:14.610
  • Gonna be things that we have to overcome.
  • 00:09:14.610 --> 00:09:16.646
  • What would you say to the person listening who is just a little
  • 00:09:16.646 --> 00:09:20.583
  • Bit thrown on their back and a little disoriented by what life
  • 00:09:20.583 --> 00:09:24.954
  • Has thrown at them, it's not what they thought their life
  • 00:09:24.954 --> 00:09:27.189
  • Would look like?
  • 00:09:27.189 --> 00:09:28.524
  • Shannon: yeah, i totally get that because as a kid growing
  • 00:09:28.524 --> 00:09:30.726
  • Up, and i had the blessing of being in church and sunday
  • 00:09:30.726 --> 00:09:33.195
  • School, and a good school and places where i was getting fed
  • 00:09:33.195 --> 00:09:36.265
  • Scripture and truth all the time, but i thought if i follow
  • 00:09:36.265 --> 00:09:39.268
  • The rules and i'm a perfect christian and a good girl, that
  • 00:09:39.268 --> 00:09:42.304
  • Nothing bad is ever going to come into my life.
  • 00:09:42.304 --> 00:09:44.907
  • But that's not scriptural.
  • 00:09:44.907 --> 00:09:46.242
  • We see struggles from some of god's, you know, holiest, most
  • 00:09:46.242 --> 00:09:49.345
  • Set-apart people who struggled with loneliness, or illness, or
  • 00:09:49.345 --> 00:09:52.748
  • Any number of things.
  • 00:09:52.748 --> 00:09:54.417
  • And what does christ say in john 16:33?
  • 00:09:54.417 --> 00:09:56.852
  • He says to the disciples, "you're gonna have trouble in
  • 00:09:56.852 --> 00:09:59.855
  • This world," but he follows that up with, "but take heart.
  • 00:09:59.855 --> 00:10:02.458
  • I've overcome the world."
  • 00:10:02.458 --> 00:10:04.060
  • So, listen, if you're struggling, i get it, i've been
  • 00:10:04.060 --> 00:10:06.962
  • In very, very dark places.
  • 00:10:06.962 --> 00:10:09.065
  • I've been discouraged, i've been depressed and in pain.
  • 00:10:09.065 --> 00:10:12.401
  • And all i can tell you is that god is working.
  • 00:10:12.401 --> 00:10:15.237
  • If you look at these men and--heroes from the bible, god
  • 00:10:15.237 --> 00:10:19.008
  • Was always working in their story.
  • 00:10:19.008 --> 00:10:20.443
  • It's really hard to see sometimes when we're in pain,
  • 00:10:20.443 --> 00:10:23.612
  • But he's never abandoned you, he will walk through it with you,
  • 00:10:23.612 --> 00:10:26.882
  • And there is good purpose in it, even if it takes maybe decades,
  • 00:10:26.882 --> 00:10:30.319
  • Maybe till we get to heaven, to understand what was going on.
  • 00:10:30.319 --> 00:10:33.255
  • Blynda: it's that romans 8:28 that's a little bit hard to put
  • 00:10:33.255 --> 00:10:36.792
  • Our head around, you know, wrap our head around, that god is
  • 00:10:36.792 --> 00:10:39.962
  • Always working things together for good.
  • 00:10:39.962 --> 00:10:43.933
  • Randy: yeah, and i've always said it's easy to work good
  • 00:10:43.933 --> 00:10:46.869
  • Things together for good.
  • 00:10:46.869 --> 00:10:48.204
  • The real miracle is when it's all like the bad stuff and
  • 00:10:48.204 --> 00:10:50.906
  • The garbage.
  • 00:10:50.906 --> 00:10:52.241
  • And when you get something good out of that, you go, "okay, that
  • 00:10:52.241 --> 00:10:54.577
  • Didn't even make sense," and that's where you go, okay, it's
  • 00:10:54.577 --> 00:10:58.314
  • Not impossible for him.
  • 00:10:58.314 --> 00:11:00.916
  • You mentioned loneliness though, and it surprises me, you know
  • 00:11:00.916 --> 00:11:05.721
  • This, in a world that is more connected, you know, the
  • 00:11:05.721 --> 00:11:09.024
  • Information age, we all have "friends" on social media and
  • 00:11:09.024 --> 00:11:12.461
  • Things like that, and yet loneliness is epidemic.
  • 00:11:12.461 --> 00:11:17.333
  • And it's just wearing people down.
  • 00:11:17.333 --> 00:11:20.569
  • And in your book, you talk about elijah, and where god comes into
  • 00:11:20.569 --> 00:11:28.110
  • Our weariness and our loneliness.
  • 00:11:28.110 --> 00:11:31.981
  • What is it that jumped out at you in his story?
  • 00:11:31.981 --> 00:11:35.818
  • Shannon: you know, he does become so discouraged.
  • 00:11:35.818 --> 00:11:38.053
  • And you know, he was a brave prophet, a man of god who,
  • 00:11:38.053 --> 00:11:42.024
  • Regularly god said to him, "you go take this message to king
  • 00:11:42.024 --> 00:11:44.660
  • Ahab," which, he was a super evil guy, and he had queen
  • 00:11:44.660 --> 00:11:48.264
  • Jezebel along with him.
  • 00:11:48.264 --> 00:11:50.065
  • And many, many times elijah went, he stood firm, he gave the
  • 00:11:50.065 --> 00:11:53.869
  • Message, he didn't back down.
  • 00:11:53.869 --> 00:11:55.738
  • But there was a time when his life was in danger, which it
  • 00:11:55.738 --> 00:11:58.073
  • Often was, when he was on the run, he was exhausted and he was
  • 00:11:58.073 --> 00:12:01.043
  • Hungry, he was demoralized.
  • 00:12:01.043 --> 00:12:03.112
  • And yet we see god show up, he sends him the food, he makes
  • 00:12:03.112 --> 00:12:05.681
  • Sure he's by a brook where he has water, and he comes to
  • 00:12:05.681 --> 00:12:08.517
  • Encourage him.
  • 00:12:08.517 --> 00:12:09.852
  • And, you know, elijah's saying, "i'm the only one left.
  • 00:12:09.852 --> 00:12:11.754
  • I'm the only one fighting for good and for truth and for you."
  • 00:12:11.754 --> 00:12:15.424
  • And god says to him, "it's not true.
  • 00:12:15.424 --> 00:12:17.259
  • There's a remnant there.
  • 00:12:17.259 --> 00:12:18.627
  • I know you feel alone, but there are thousands more who have not
  • 00:12:18.627 --> 00:12:21.964
  • Bent the knee, who have not caved."
  • 00:12:21.964 --> 00:12:23.566
  • And i think a lot of times people feel very lonely.
  • 00:12:23.566 --> 00:12:26.135
  • It could be part of your faith walk and feeling like, ugh, i'm
  • 00:12:26.135 --> 00:12:28.704
  • Trying to stand up against a culture or a place that doesn't
  • 00:12:28.704 --> 00:12:31.907
  • Understand, it doesn't respect the lord and his holiness.
  • 00:12:31.907 --> 00:12:35.277
  • That's how elijah felt, but god said to him, "you're not alone."
  • 00:12:35.277 --> 00:12:37.680
  • So the lord is always gonna be with you, but there are brothers
  • 00:12:37.680 --> 00:12:40.382
  • And sisters around the globe who are with you as well.
  • 00:12:40.382 --> 00:12:43.652
  • And you know, if you just feel lonely in the path of life, i
  • 00:12:43.652 --> 00:12:46.088
  • Get that, too, and we're all human and we're frail.
  • 00:12:46.088 --> 00:12:49.158
  • And christ came, fully god, fully man, so we know that he
  • 00:12:49.158 --> 00:12:53.329
  • Understands every temptation, every bit of suffering, that we
  • 00:12:53.329 --> 00:12:56.866
  • Will ever walk through.
  • 00:12:56.866 --> 00:12:58.367
  • We know that he gets what it's like to suffer in every
  • 00:12:58.367 --> 00:13:00.870
  • Possible way.
  • 00:13:00.870 --> 00:13:02.204
  • So you're not with a high priest that doesn't understand
  • 00:13:02.204 --> 00:13:04.907
  • Your struggles.
  • 00:13:04.907 --> 00:13:06.242
  • Blynda: not only does he not just understand it, in that
  • 00:13:06.242 --> 00:13:09.144
  • Story, he gives elijah a nap and a snack and--
  • 00:13:09.144 --> 00:13:13.549
  • Shannon: right, sometimes it's what we need.
  • 00:13:13.549 --> 00:13:15.084
  • Blynda: but i'm always fascinated by that story, even
  • 00:13:15.084 --> 00:13:17.720
  • Backing it up a little bit, because i mean, the story about
  • 00:13:17.720 --> 00:13:20.289
  • Elijah is that he had just witnessed god doing the
  • 00:13:20.289 --> 00:13:23.959
  • Miraculous, and i think it's actually a really good lesson
  • 00:13:23.959 --> 00:13:27.196
  • For me to remember about like the fallibility for humans,
  • 00:13:27.196 --> 00:13:31.200
  • Because here's elijah watching god do this absolute miracle,
  • 00:13:31.200 --> 00:13:36.105
  • And his next response is to be afraid of jezebel and to run,
  • 00:13:36.105 --> 00:13:40.476
  • You know?
  • 00:13:40.476 --> 00:13:41.810
  • Shannon: our memories can be very short.
  • 00:13:41.810 --> 00:13:43.178
  • Blynda: yes, after we've seen--but it helps me as a
  • 00:13:43.178 --> 00:13:45.547
  • Believer go, okay, you know what?
  • 00:13:45.547 --> 00:13:47.149
  • That's why i love when you characterize, you give these
  • 00:13:47.149 --> 00:13:50.653
  • Stories life by saying, you know, this is--you can see
  • 00:13:50.653 --> 00:13:54.456
  • Yourself in this story.
  • 00:13:54.456 --> 00:13:55.791
  • You can say, you know what?
  • 00:13:55.791 --> 00:13:57.126
  • There's been times in my life i've seen god
  • 00:13:57.126 --> 00:13:58.460
  • Do something amazing, and then i wake up the
  • 00:13:58.460 --> 00:13:59.995
  • Next morning and i actually question, you know, if he's for
  • 00:13:59.995 --> 00:14:03.132
  • Me or if, you know, whatever it is.
  • 00:14:03.132 --> 00:14:05.467
  • And it's like, how can we do that?
  • 00:14:05.467 --> 00:14:07.036
  • But we're so reminded by the word that he is with us, we are
  • 00:14:07.036 --> 00:14:10.673
  • Never alone.
  • 00:14:10.673 --> 00:14:12.007
  • Shannon: and we see that over and over again with
  • 00:14:12.007 --> 00:14:13.375
  • The israelites especially.
  • 00:14:13.375 --> 00:14:14.710
  • You know, that god had performed miracle after miracle, i mean,
  • 00:14:14.710 --> 00:14:16.378
  • Just the exodus itself, then the parting of the red sea and the
  • 00:14:16.378 --> 00:14:19.515
  • Manna and all of the ways that he provided, and yet they would
  • 00:14:19.515 --> 00:14:22.117
  • Grumble and say, "we should have just stayed in egypt, we should
  • 00:14:22.117 --> 00:14:25.621
  • Have stayed in slavery, and we should have never gone
  • 00:14:25.621 --> 00:14:27.690
  • Out here."
  • 00:14:27.690 --> 00:14:29.024
  • And i gotta think that the lord was--and we saw him get
  • 00:14:29.024 --> 00:14:31.193
  • Frustrated with them and say like, "how many miracles do i
  • 00:14:31.193 --> 00:14:33.662
  • Have to do?
  • 00:14:33.662 --> 00:14:35.030
  • How much do i have to lay at your feet and guide you?"
  • 00:14:35.030 --> 00:14:37.533
  • So yeah, it's a good reminder that when we have questions and
  • 00:14:37.533 --> 00:14:40.035
  • Doubts, too, we're not alone.
  • 00:14:40.035 --> 00:14:41.737
  • People struggle in their faith journeys.
  • 00:14:41.737 --> 00:14:43.572
  • Randy: yeah, i love the story of the israelites.
  • 00:14:43.572 --> 00:14:45.240
  • You wander about the desert, and it's like that's where you
  • 00:14:45.240 --> 00:14:47.443
  • Learn--that hard place is where you learn to trust.
  • 00:14:47.443 --> 00:14:51.146
  • It's where you learn obedience, and it's preparation to live in
  • 00:14:51.146 --> 00:14:54.583
  • That promised land, and i do see a parallel.
  • 00:14:54.583 --> 00:14:57.953
  • I'm curious about this, shannon, and again, i so appreciate
  • 00:14:57.953 --> 00:15:02.191
  • Your witness.
  • 00:15:02.191 --> 00:15:03.559
  • I know when the commercials broke in for the book when i was
  • 00:15:03.559 --> 00:15:06.195
  • Watching tv, i'm like, "oh, yay, shannon, go!"
  • 00:15:06.195 --> 00:15:10.099
  • Have you had anybody come back to you and say, "what is this
  • 00:15:10.099 --> 00:15:15.270
  • Thing you're talking about?
  • 00:15:15.270 --> 00:15:18.040
  • I need some impossible things to happen in my life,
  • 00:15:18.040 --> 00:15:20.542
  • And i'm weary, i'm hopeless, i'm lonely,
  • 00:15:20.542 --> 00:15:22.845
  • All these things that you talk about."
  • 00:15:22.845 --> 00:15:24.413
  • Have you had anybody come back to you and just get to see
  • 00:15:24.413 --> 00:15:27.983
  • That impact?
  • 00:15:27.983 --> 00:15:29.418
  • Shannon: yeah, over the years, sometimes i'll have people show
  • 00:15:29.418 --> 00:15:31.720
  • Up at my office and say, "i'm not a religious person.
  • 00:15:31.720 --> 00:15:34.590
  • I know that you are.
  • 00:15:34.590 --> 00:15:36.191
  • I know that you could pray.
  • 00:15:36.191 --> 00:15:37.526
  • Could you pray for me?
  • 00:15:37.526 --> 00:15:38.894
  • My family's having this crisis," or something really difficult is
  • 00:15:38.894 --> 00:15:41.697
  • Going on.
  • 00:15:41.697 --> 00:15:43.065
  • And they may have more questions than they do answers, but i feel
  • 00:15:43.065 --> 00:15:45.034
  • Like, "lord, thank you.
  • 00:15:45.034 --> 00:15:46.835
  • Help me to be humble with this season, and just to steward
  • 00:15:46.835 --> 00:15:49.438
  • This well."
  • 00:15:49.438 --> 00:15:50.773
  • But if somebody wants to show up at my office and say,
  • 00:15:50.773 --> 00:15:52.374
  • "i don't get this, but will you pray for me?"
  • 00:15:52.374 --> 00:15:54.243
  • What a blessing.
  • 00:15:54.243 --> 00:15:55.577
  • And so, you know, just to be that open conversation for
  • 00:15:55.577 --> 00:15:58.781
  • People if they do have questions, if they're struggling
  • 00:15:58.781 --> 00:16:00.983
  • In life, i mean, to really show up for them, be the hands
  • 00:16:00.983 --> 00:16:04.586
  • And feet.
  • 00:16:04.586 --> 00:16:05.921
  • My mom is the best example in the world of that.
  • 00:16:05.921 --> 00:16:07.756
  • When somebody is in trouble or has a baby or, you know,
  • 00:16:07.756 --> 00:16:10.626
  • Whatever is happening, my mom is showing up with the food, she's
  • 00:16:10.626 --> 00:16:13.162
  • Showing up to pray, and i just saw such a great model from her
  • 00:16:13.162 --> 00:16:17.299
  • With that.
  • 00:16:17.299 --> 00:16:18.667
  • And so, i just wanna be there when people have questions,
  • 00:16:18.667 --> 00:16:21.270
  • Or they're in trouble.
  • 00:16:21.270 --> 00:16:22.604
  • Hopefully they'll come to someone like you guys, too, a
  • 00:16:22.604 --> 00:16:24.606
  • Person of faith that they think, "i don't know exactly what this
  • 00:16:24.606 --> 00:16:26.942
  • Is, but i know there could be hope here."
  • 00:16:26.942 --> 00:16:28.911
  • Blynda: in the book you don't just talk about these heroes,
  • 00:16:28.911 --> 00:16:31.814
  • But you give some practical advice to people who are wanting
  • 00:16:31.814 --> 00:16:35.317
  • To know how to walk out some of these tough situations or how to
  • 00:16:35.317 --> 00:16:38.921
  • Believe for the impossible.
  • 00:16:38.921 --> 00:16:40.322
  • Can you give us some of the practical advice that the book
  • 00:16:40.322 --> 00:16:42.524
  • Offers to help others?
  • 00:16:42.524 --> 00:16:44.960
  • Shannon: yeah, i think every one of the stories, each one of
  • 00:16:44.960 --> 00:16:46.995
  • These characters has got something, but i love that
  • 00:16:46.995 --> 00:16:49.164
  • Moses, when they've left, they've gotten out, there've
  • 00:16:49.164 --> 00:16:52.501
  • Been all these plagues, the horrible things that happened in
  • 00:16:52.501 --> 00:16:54.436
  • Egypt, pharaoh finally lets them go.
  • 00:16:54.436 --> 00:16:57.005
  • They're out there, they get to the red sea, and they turn
  • 00:16:57.005 --> 00:17:00.275
  • Around and pharaoh's changed his mind.
  • 00:17:00.275 --> 00:17:01.810
  • And now the army is there and the people are panicking and
  • 00:17:01.810 --> 00:17:04.513
  • Freaking out, and we've seen this full trajectory of moses
  • 00:17:04.513 --> 00:17:08.917
  • Being afraid, not wanting to take on the assignment in the
  • 00:17:08.917 --> 00:17:12.020
  • Early, you know, approach of god in that burning bush.
  • 00:17:12.020 --> 00:17:14.957
  • Now he's matured enough in his faith that when they're standing
  • 00:17:14.957 --> 00:17:17.559
  • There, he gives kind of this mini sermon which i think has
  • 00:17:17.559 --> 00:17:19.761
  • These great points in it, in exodus 14.
  • 00:17:19.761 --> 00:17:22.498
  • He says, "don't be afraid."
  • 00:17:22.498 --> 00:17:24.399
  • He says, "stand firm."
  • 00:17:24.399 --> 00:17:25.934
  • He says, "stand and watch for god's deliverance, his salvation
  • 00:17:25.934 --> 00:17:29.471
  • For you.
  • 00:17:29.471 --> 00:17:30.806
  • Be still," which is my hardest one.
  • 00:17:30.806 --> 00:17:32.541
  • And then he says, "all will come together," and, you know, "he
  • 00:17:32.541 --> 00:17:37.513
  • Will fight for you.
  • 00:17:37.513 --> 00:17:38.847
  • God will fight for you."
  • 00:17:38.847 --> 00:17:40.215
  • So it's kind of that mini sermon in just a couple of verses, and
  • 00:17:40.215 --> 00:17:42.084
  • I think, you know, we take each one of those things and walk
  • 00:17:42.084 --> 00:17:43.952
  • Through it in the book and how you can apply it to whatever
  • 00:17:43.952 --> 00:17:46.555
  • Your situation is.
  • 00:17:46.555 --> 00:17:47.923
  • It's just good, truthful, biblical knowledge.
  • 00:17:47.923 --> 00:17:51.293
  • Randy: in one of those situations god says, "i will
  • 00:17:51.293 --> 00:17:53.762
  • Fight for you while you stay silent," and that's the hard
  • 00:17:53.762 --> 00:17:56.932
  • Part for me.
  • 00:17:56.932 --> 00:17:59.067
  • God's like, "just shut up, i got this."
  • 00:17:59.067 --> 00:18:01.003
  • And then it says god told moses to tell the israelites, "keep
  • 00:18:01.003 --> 00:18:05.874
  • Moving forward."
  • 00:18:05.874 --> 00:18:08.010
  • And i, man, i can't tell you how much that means to me because a
  • 00:18:08.010 --> 00:18:10.913
  • Lot of times i feel bogged down and i'm like, you know, what do
  • 00:18:10.913 --> 00:18:15.184
  • I do?
  • 00:18:15.184 --> 00:18:16.552
  • And god's like, "just keep on what i've put right
  • 00:18:16.552 --> 00:18:18.020
  • In front of you."
  • 00:18:18.020 --> 00:18:19.388
  • And i see you doing that, shannon, you know.
  • 00:18:19.388 --> 00:18:20.989
  • You keep moving forward, you keep just being the witness, the
  • 00:18:20.989 --> 00:18:25.160
  • Open door, and i so much appreciate that.
  • 00:18:25.160 --> 00:18:28.597
  • Shannon: well, thank you.
  • 00:18:28.597 --> 00:18:29.965
  • You know, i once had a friend tell me years ago when my dad
  • 00:18:29.965 --> 00:18:31.833
  • Died unexpectedly, she's a believer, too, and she said that
  • 00:18:31.833 --> 00:18:34.536
  • To me, like, "just do the next thing.
  • 00:18:34.536 --> 00:18:36.205
  • God will lead you to the next step."
  • 00:18:36.205 --> 00:18:37.906
  • When you're afraid, when he's calling you to something, when
  • 00:18:37.906 --> 00:18:41.210
  • You're unsure, you know, i see that in gideon's story.
  • 00:18:41.210 --> 00:18:44.346
  • There's so many times when gideon was so afraid and asked
  • 00:18:44.346 --> 00:18:46.915
  • God for reassurance, and i think that's different than testing
  • 00:18:46.915 --> 00:18:49.351
  • God or saying, demanding a sign or a miracle.
  • 00:18:49.351 --> 00:18:51.954
  • I think when he sees the development of our heart, he
  • 00:18:51.954 --> 00:18:53.922
  • Knows our hearts better than we do, but he knows when we need
  • 00:18:53.922 --> 00:18:56.892
  • That reassurance, whether it's gideon or elijah or any of these
  • 00:18:56.892 --> 00:18:59.828
  • Heroes in the bible.
  • 00:18:59.828 --> 00:19:01.163
  • Randy: yeah, i love it.
  • 00:19:01.163 --> 00:19:02.531
  • Thank you so much for sharing with us.
  • 00:19:02.531 --> 00:19:03.865
  • Blynda: thank you, shannon.
  • 00:19:03.865 --> 00:19:05.234
  • Shannon: god bless you guys.
  • 00:19:05.234 --> 00:19:06.568
  • Randy: i have got a next step for our viewers that i hope you
  • 00:19:06.568 --> 00:19:09.504
  • Will consider.
  • 00:19:09.504 --> 00:19:10.839
  • You have people through whom no fault of their
  • 00:19:10.839 --> 00:19:13.242
  • Own, and despite their hard work, are facing starvation
  • 00:19:13.242 --> 00:19:19.214
  • And death.
  • 00:19:19.214 --> 00:19:20.849
  • And that's where we're able to step in.
  • 00:19:20.849 --> 00:19:23.151
  • We were created as christians for good works.
  • 00:19:23.151 --> 00:19:26.822
  • And a good work is not just bringing food, because we do
  • 00:19:26.822 --> 00:19:30.692
  • That in these emergency situations, with your support.
  • 00:19:30.692 --> 00:19:34.129
  • But i think it's also a god work, because wow, what an
  • 00:19:34.129 --> 00:19:38.634
  • Opportunity to preach the gospel, to go into a place of
  • 00:19:38.634 --> 00:19:42.004
  • Darkness and share light.
  • 00:19:42.004 --> 00:19:45.173
  • Mission feeding is so much more than the emergency food, though
  • 00:19:45.173 --> 00:19:49.444
  • That's where it starts.
  • 00:19:49.444 --> 00:19:51.713
  • Mission feeding really is sharing life, in every way, with
  • 00:19:51.713 --> 00:19:56.752
  • People who desperately need it, people who are dying.
  • 00:19:56.752 --> 00:20:01.556
  • That's why we ask you to go to the phone or go online, make the
  • 00:20:01.556 --> 00:20:04.726
  • Best gift you can, knowing that it's very, very simple.
  • 00:20:04.726 --> 00:20:08.096
  • Thirty dollars will, for example,
  • 00:20:08.096 --> 00:20:10.432
  • Help feed three children for several months.
  • 00:20:10.432 --> 00:20:13.468
  • And you go, how can you do that?
  • 00:20:13.468 --> 00:20:15.470
  • For one, it's the power of the dollar, but also it's the power
  • 00:20:15.470 --> 00:20:18.607
  • Of the people like isak and many that you see in these videos,
  • 00:20:18.607 --> 00:20:22.444
  • Who are on the ground.
  • 00:20:22.444 --> 00:20:23.779
  • The systems are in place.
  • 00:20:23.779 --> 00:20:25.147
  • We're in a unique position at life outreach, because we've
  • 00:20:25.147 --> 00:20:28.550
  • Been doing this for so long.
  • 00:20:28.550 --> 00:20:29.951
  • We have the relationships and the systems, the distribution,
  • 00:20:29.951 --> 00:20:34.356
  • So that $100 will help feed 10 children for several months.
  • 00:20:34.356 --> 00:20:38.160
  • Many of you could give a gift of $1,000 and it would feed 100
  • 00:20:38.160 --> 00:20:42.030
  • Children for several months.
  • 00:20:42.030 --> 00:20:44.633
  • But do what you can, and please, i ask you with the same passion
  • 00:20:44.633 --> 00:20:48.937
  • That you see from isak, do it now.
  • 00:20:48.937 --> 00:20:52.874
  • The situation in many places is so desperate that they literally
  • 00:20:52.874 --> 00:20:56.812
  • Cannot wait another day.
  • 00:20:56.812 --> 00:20:59.548
  • We're there.
  • 00:20:59.548 --> 00:21:00.882
  • We need you to step up, to join us in mission feeding.
  • 00:21:00.882 --> 00:21:04.986
  • Announcer: right now across the continent of africa, children
  • 00:21:06.421 --> 00:21:09.691
  • Are suffering, facing severe malnutrition and even death.
  • 00:21:09.691 --> 00:21:13.929
  • With food reserves critically depleted and many areas
  • 00:21:13.929 --> 00:21:17.065
  • Experiencing devastating famine, we urgently need to replenish
  • 00:21:17.065 --> 00:21:21.336
  • Supplies to keep feeding the 350,000 children who are
  • 00:21:21.336 --> 00:21:25.340
  • Counting on us every single day.
  • 00:21:25.340 --> 00:21:27.676
  • Through life's mission feeding outreach, your gift of love can
  • 00:21:27.676 --> 00:21:31.380
  • Be an answer to a prayer for a hurting and hungry child in
  • 00:21:31.380 --> 00:21:34.916
  • Their time of need.
  • 00:21:34.916 --> 00:21:36.451
  • Call now with your life-saving gift of $30, $50, or $100 to
  • 00:21:36.451 --> 00:21:41.857
  • Help feed and care for 3, 5, or 10 children for 3 full months.
  • 00:21:41.857 --> 00:21:47.796
  • With your gift we'll send you "the father's heart" devotional.
  • 00:21:47.796 --> 00:21:51.633
  • Drawing from scripture and his past, james robison takes you on
  • 00:21:51.633 --> 00:21:55.303
  • A 90-day journey to help you experience a deeper, more
  • 00:21:55.303 --> 00:21:58.974
  • Personal relationship with god as your loving father.
  • 00:21:58.974 --> 00:22:02.544
  • With your gift of $100 or more,
  • 00:22:02.544 --> 00:22:04.780
  • You will receive the father's heart bundle.
  • 00:22:04.780 --> 00:22:07.215
  • This stationary set, paired with the devotional, is a
  • 00:22:07.215 --> 00:22:10.619
  • Thoughtfully-designed collection created to help you share
  • 00:22:10.619 --> 00:22:13.755
  • Encouragement, prayer, and the love of our heavenly father with
  • 00:22:13.755 --> 00:22:17.592
  • Those you care about.
  • 00:22:17.592 --> 00:22:19.327
  • Finally, with your gift of $1,000 or more, which will help
  • 00:22:19.327 --> 00:22:23.031
  • Feed 100 children in desperate need, request life's beautiful
  • 00:22:23.031 --> 00:22:27.536
  • Bronze sculpture, the good shepherd.
  • 00:22:27.536 --> 00:22:30.539
  • So, please call, write, or make your gift online today.
  • 00:22:30.539 --> 00:22:33.575
  • Randy: i do hope you're going online, go to the phone, make
  • 00:22:37.078 --> 00:22:38.947
  • The best gift you can.
  • 00:22:38.947 --> 00:22:40.515
  • You will be helping to save lives and share the love
  • 00:22:40.515 --> 00:22:43.585
  • Of jesus.
  • 00:22:43.585 --> 00:22:44.953
  • And today, if you would like us to send this book, "nothing is
  • 00:22:44.953 --> 00:22:48.390
  • Impossible with god," i'd love to get in people's hands.
  • 00:22:48.390 --> 00:22:50.559
  • Blynda: it's awesome.
  • 00:22:50.559 --> 00:22:51.893
  • I mean, a book full of hope, that's what it is.
  • 00:22:51.893 --> 00:22:53.361
  • Randy: absolutely.
  • 00:22:53.361 --> 00:22:54.696
  • So people can request that with any gift, and shannon brings
  • 00:22:54.696 --> 00:22:56.731
  • Such a gift to us.
  • 00:22:56.731 --> 00:22:58.200
  • Shannon, thank you for being with us on "life today."
  • 00:22:58.200 --> 00:23:00.936
  • Shannon: yes, god bless you guys.
  • 00:23:00.936 --> 00:23:02.304
  • It's my honor to be with you.
  • 00:23:02.304 --> 00:23:03.638
  • Randy: we appreciate all you guys being with us.
  • 00:23:03.638 --> 00:23:05.006
  • Don't miss us again here next time on "life today."
  • 00:23:05.006 --> 00:23:07.809
  • [music]
  • 00:23:09.144 --> 00:23:14.282
  • Jennifer rothschild: hi, i'm jennifer rothschild, and i wanna
  • 00:23:14.282 --> 00:23:16.751
  • Tell you what happened when my son clayton was about eight
  • 00:23:16.751 --> 00:23:19.955
  • Years old.
  • 00:23:19.955 --> 00:23:21.323
  • You see, i had been blind since i was a teenage girl, so here i
  • 00:23:21.323 --> 00:23:25.393
  • Was, a young mom, and obviously i couldn't see my son's face.
  • 00:23:25.393 --> 00:23:30.799
  • I couldn't see a lot of things that i needed to do as a mom,
  • 00:23:30.799 --> 00:23:33.635
  • But one thing that was especially challenging--and
  • 00:23:33.635 --> 00:23:36.438
  • Sometimes it was humorous--was trying to find games that i
  • 00:23:36.438 --> 00:23:40.775
  • Could play with my son where, obviously, he didn't have, like,
  • 00:23:40.775 --> 00:23:45.046
  • The, you know, clear advantage of just smearing his mom.
  • 00:23:45.046 --> 00:23:50.519
  • So, this day clayton found a new game that he
  • 00:23:50.519 --> 00:23:54.256
  • Thought we could play together.
  • 00:23:54.256 --> 00:23:55.590
  • So, i'll never forget as we're sitting on his blue bedroom
  • 00:23:55.590 --> 00:23:58.426
  • Carpet, clayton opens up the box and he lays out the game board.
  • 00:23:58.426 --> 00:24:03.265
  • And then he puts each little man on the game board, and we began
  • 00:24:03.265 --> 00:24:07.702
  • To play the game.
  • 00:24:07.702 --> 00:24:09.170
  • Well, as we began to play this game, of course, i couldn't see
  • 00:24:09.170 --> 00:24:12.941
  • What was on the game board, so i'm trying to move little men.
  • 00:24:12.941 --> 00:24:15.610
  • And as i'm moving men, i'm knocking things over, marbles
  • 00:24:15.610 --> 00:24:18.880
  • Are rolling, and our frustration was growing.
  • 00:24:18.880 --> 00:24:22.817
  • And finally i said to clayton, "son,
  • 00:24:22.817 --> 00:24:26.087
  • You need to pick a new game.
  • 00:24:26.087 --> 00:24:27.756
  • You need to find a game that you know that we've played before
  • 00:24:27.756 --> 00:24:32.193
  • That we can play together."
  • 00:24:32.193 --> 00:24:33.662
  • Well, clayton was really quiet as he started to
  • 00:24:33.662 --> 00:24:36.731
  • Clean up this game.
  • 00:24:36.731 --> 00:24:38.066
  • And you know how it is when you love somebody and you know
  • 00:24:38.066 --> 00:24:40.135
  • Somebody, that even in their silence, you can really tell
  • 00:24:40.135 --> 00:24:43.204
  • Their little--their wheels are turning, like they're thinking
  • 00:24:43.204 --> 00:24:45.307
  • Of something.
  • 00:24:45.307 --> 00:24:47.142
  • And so, as clayton dutifully picked up each piece and put it
  • 00:24:47.142 --> 00:24:51.079
  • In the game box, as he folded up the board and finally was about
  • 00:24:51.079 --> 00:24:55.850
  • To put the lid on, he broke his silence, and he said something
  • 00:24:55.850 --> 00:25:00.422
  • That surprised me.
  • 00:25:00.422 --> 00:25:01.756
  • And before i tell you what he said, you need to understand
  • 00:25:01.756 --> 00:25:04.492
  • Something about him.
  • 00:25:04.492 --> 00:25:06.194
  • He's just a little boy, and he had just learned stories about
  • 00:25:06.194 --> 00:25:10.165
  • Jesus and how jesus healed people.
  • 00:25:10.165 --> 00:25:12.801
  • Well, he had only known his mommy being blind, and he knew
  • 00:25:12.801 --> 00:25:16.438
  • That jesus could heal his mom's blindness.
  • 00:25:16.438 --> 00:25:20.041
  • And so, he would pray, that little boy would pray every day,
  • 00:25:20.041 --> 00:25:23.411
  • "dear god, please heal mommy's eyes."
  • 00:25:23.411 --> 00:25:26.281
  • And i knew how important healing was to clayton.
  • 00:25:26.281 --> 00:25:29.017
  • And, of course, i believed jesus could heal me too, and so as
  • 00:25:29.017 --> 00:25:33.054
  • Clayton finally put the lid on the game board, he said, "mom, i
  • 00:25:33.054 --> 00:25:39.094
  • Was thinking.
  • 00:25:39.094 --> 00:25:41.229
  • I don't think god will heal you here on earth."
  • 00:25:41.229 --> 00:25:45.533
  • I was so surprised, 'cause i knew how important healing was
  • 00:25:45.533 --> 00:25:48.970
  • To him, and so i said, "what do you mean, clayton?
  • 00:25:48.970 --> 00:25:53.441
  • Why do you think god would never heal me here on earth?"
  • 00:25:53.441 --> 00:25:57.545
  • And clayton said, "because if god healed you here on earth,
  • 00:25:57.545 --> 00:26:04.352
  • You might love earth more.
  • 00:26:04.352 --> 00:26:06.521
  • And heaven is best."
  • 00:26:06.521 --> 00:26:09.691
  • My friends, i have never forgotten those words.
  • 00:26:09.691 --> 00:26:12.894
  • Heaven is best.
  • 00:26:12.894 --> 00:26:15.230
  • Matthew 6:21 tells us that where our treasure is, there will our
  • 00:26:15.230 --> 00:26:20.602
  • Heart be also.
  • 00:26:20.602 --> 00:26:22.871
  • So, maybe today, if you're dealing with disappointment, you
  • 00:26:22.871 --> 00:26:26.574
  • Need to align your heart with heaven.
  • 00:26:26.574 --> 00:26:29.911
  • Yeah, earth can be hard, but maybe god's not answering some
  • 00:26:29.911 --> 00:26:34.082
  • Of those prayers that you wish he would answer here on earth
  • 00:26:34.082 --> 00:26:37.852
  • Because he's waiting to answer them in heaven so that where
  • 00:26:37.852 --> 00:26:41.723
  • Your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
