Don't let the pain of your past, control the promise of your future.
It's been reported that Facebook has 2.45 billion monthly active users. The world’s population is about 7.77 billion people. That means around 31.5% of our population is on Facebook. Since many of that 7.77 billion are too young to use technology, the 31.5% actually increases if we factor in only people who are old enough to use technology. The potential for spreading the Gospel on Facebook is HUGE!
That’s where Nona Jones steps in. She’s the head of Faith-Based Partnerships at Facebook. An expert in expanding the influence of the Gospel through social technology, she partners with churches and ministries to help them fulfill the Great Commission through digital impact.
God has done amazing things in Nona’s life and has given her a behemoth of an avenue on which to use her gifts and talents to share the Gospel and equip other believers.
What many don’t know about Nona is the trauma she overcame to get to where she is today. In this clip, Nona shares the heartbreaking story of being sexually abused for years by her mother’s boyfriend.
He threatened Nona to keep quiet. When Nona told her mom, her abuser was arrested. After he was released, he continued to sexually abuse Nona. Her mother began physically abusing her. At 9 years old, Nona tried to end her life twice. But by the grace of God, that did not happen.
The years of abuse created bitterness in her heart. It got to a point when, as an adult, Nona’s bitterness affected her marriage. She was empty and broken from the pain of her past that she couldn’t enjoy the wonderful life she had in the present.
God showed Nona that the only way she could get free and heal from the pain of her past is to forgive those who abused her.
And she did!
