Anchoring Your Faith in the Cross.
In the Old Testament we see how God communicated to specific people because they anchored their faith in the words He spoke to them. In the New Testament, people put their faith in the person of Jesus—God in flesh living among them—who came to this earth loving, teaching, healing, and meeting people’s needs.
So, what should we as believers put our faith in today? Leon Fontaine answers this question by comparing the New Covenant with the Old Covenant. Since Jesus’ death and resurrection, humanity is able to experience God in a transformative way. The New Covenant shows us that our faith is to be in the completed work of Jesus on the cross, which qualifies us for ALL of God’s promises. As a result, we can pray from a position of victory and thankfulness for what He has already done.
We need to understand how crucial this is.
The Bible says in 2 Peter 1:2-4 that God’s divine power gives us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of God. When we understand Jesus, then we understand our purpose and calling. If we live in this reality, then we will be partakers of His divine nature. Jesus gave us a gift: the ability to be right with God.
As New Covenant believers, we do not need to plead and beg with God. 2 Corinthians 1:20 tells us, “For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding ‘Yes!’ And through Christ, our ‘Amen’ (which means ‘Yes’) ascends to God for His glory” (NLT). When we grasp this truth and the enormity of what Jesus did for us, it will radically change the way we pray—and the way God answers our prayers.
