  • Sinners, christ died for us."
  • 00:08:17.663 --> 00:08:21.434
  • Because there was no way that greg laurie or any of us could
  • 00:08:21.434 --> 00:08:25.171
  • Satisfy the righteous demands of god, god sent his son
  • 00:08:25.171 --> 00:08:29.609
  • To die in our place.
  • 00:08:29.609 --> 00:08:31.544
  • Because we faced a future in hell, jesus died for us.
  • 00:08:31.544 --> 00:08:36.782
  • Now, if you dare use the word "hell," get ready 'cause you're
  • 00:08:36.782 --> 00:08:40.987
  • Gonna get pushed back.
  • 00:08:40.987 --> 00:08:42.622
  • People don't like to hear the word "hell."
  • 00:08:42.622 --> 00:08:44.624
  • This is, i think, one of the reasons christians
  • 00:08:44.624 --> 00:08:46.325
  • Skirt the subject.
  • 00:08:46.325 --> 00:08:47.660
  • "i don't really want to talk about hell."
  • 00:08:47.660 --> 00:08:49.662
  • But listen, if you only promised the glories of heaven and you
  • 00:08:49.662 --> 00:08:52.865
  • Don't warn about the reality of hell, you're not declaring
  • 00:08:52.865 --> 00:08:55.701
  • The whole gospel.
  • 00:08:55.701 --> 00:08:57.103
  • I'm not saying we should focus primarily on hell, but we
  • 00:08:57.103 --> 00:09:00.773
  • Certainly shouldn't edit it out of the message.
  • 00:09:00.773 --> 00:09:03.509
  • So you might be sharing the gospel to someone, say, "you
  • 00:09:03.509 --> 00:09:06.078
  • Know, jesus has filled the void in life, and i have joy and
  • 00:09:06.078 --> 00:09:08.281
  • Peace and i'm so happy."
  • 00:09:08.281 --> 00:09:09.749
  • "hey, that's cool, man.
  • 00:09:09.749 --> 00:09:11.083
  • I can see religion's done a lot for you.
  • 00:09:11.083 --> 00:09:12.451
  • I'm happy for you.
  • 00:09:12.451 --> 00:09:13.786
  • But i don't really have a void in my life," they might say,
  • 00:09:13.786 --> 00:09:16.155
  • "and i don't--i already feel pretty good.
  • 00:09:16.155 --> 00:09:18.491
  • You know, in fact, i drank a couple of beers.
  • 00:09:18.491 --> 00:09:20.092
  • I've got a good buzz going on.
  • 00:09:20.092 --> 00:09:21.427
  • So i'm happy.
  • 00:09:21.427 --> 00:09:22.762
  • And i like the way my life is going,
  • 00:09:22.762 --> 00:09:25.364
  • And i don't think i need what you have."
  • 00:09:25.364 --> 00:09:27.500
  • "oh.
  • 00:09:27.500 --> 00:09:28.968
  • So what happens to me when i die?"
  • 00:09:28.968 --> 00:09:31.537
  • "well, do you like warm climates?"
  • 00:09:31.537 --> 00:09:34.540
  • Wait.
  • 00:09:34.540 --> 00:09:37.577
  • See, here's the thing, you're focusing on the fringe benefits
  • 00:09:37.577 --> 00:09:41.213
  • Of salvation, and you're not addressing the core issue.
  • 00:09:41.213 --> 00:09:45.284
  • The fringe benefits of salvation are peace, purpose,
  • 00:09:45.284 --> 00:09:49.155
  • Fulfillment, joy.
  • 00:09:49.155 --> 00:09:51.557
  • But the biggest thing about salvation,
  • 00:09:51.557 --> 00:09:53.726
  • You want to know what it is?
  • 00:09:53.726 --> 00:09:55.361
  • You're not going to hell anymore.
  • 00:09:55.361 --> 00:09:57.330
  • You're going to heaven now.
  • 00:09:57.330 --> 00:09:58.664
  • That's the biggest thing.
  • 00:09:58.664 --> 00:10:00.132
  • You have to know that.
  • 00:10:00.132 --> 00:10:01.467
  • Okay, so if i only offered jesus as sort of an additive, like a
  • 00:10:01.467 --> 00:10:08.007
  • New product out on the market that will make their teeth
  • 00:10:08.007 --> 00:10:11.110
  • Whiter and give them more spring in their step, that's not true
  • 00:10:11.110 --> 00:10:14.880
  • Gospel preaching.
  • 00:10:14.880 --> 00:10:16.382
  • I have to tell them the truth that you're separated from god
  • 00:10:16.382 --> 00:10:19.218
  • By sin, and there is a place called hell.
  • 00:10:19.218 --> 00:10:22.288
  • Now, you might be surprised to know that most americans believe
  • 00:10:22.288 --> 00:10:25.224
  • In some kind of an afterlife.
  • 00:10:25.224 --> 00:10:26.726
  • 82% of americans believe in heaven
  • 00:10:26.726 --> 00:10:28.995
  • And 70% believe in hell.
  • 00:10:28.995 --> 00:10:30.763
  • So a lot of people believe in hell, but they just don't think
  • 00:10:30.763 --> 00:10:34.066
  • They're going there.
  • 00:10:34.066 --> 00:10:36.202
  • Because for every american who believes he's going to hell,
  • 00:10:36.202 --> 00:10:38.971
  • There's 120 who believe they're going to heaven.
  • 00:10:38.971 --> 00:10:42.408
  • But that's in direct contradiction to what jesus said
  • 00:10:42.408 --> 00:10:45.111
  • Because he said in matthew 7, "broad is the way that leads to
  • 00:10:45.111 --> 00:10:48.280
  • Destruction and many there are that go that way.
  • 00:10:48.280 --> 00:10:50.916
  • But narrow is the way that leads to life and few there
  • 00:10:50.916 --> 00:10:53.919
  • Are that find it."
  • 00:10:53.919 --> 00:10:56.389
  • And know this, you can't edit hell out of scripture.
  • 00:10:56.389 --> 00:11:01.127
  • Did you know jesus spoke more about hell than all the other
  • 00:11:01.127 --> 00:11:04.030
  • Preachers in the bible put together?
  • 00:11:04.030 --> 00:11:06.966
  • That surprises some people, why?
  • 00:11:06.966 --> 00:11:09.402
  • Because he and he alone knows the horrors and reality of helm.
  • 00:11:09.402 --> 00:11:13.606
  • J.i. packer said, quote,
  • 00:11:13.606 --> 00:11:14.974
  • "an endless hell can no more be removed from
  • 00:11:14.974 --> 00:11:17.343
  • The new testament than an endless heaven can," end quote.
  • 00:11:17.343 --> 00:11:22.114
  • Greg: well, there's a lot of things to be anxious about
  • 00:11:26.252 --> 00:11:29.188
  • Right now, aren't there?
  • 00:11:29.188 --> 00:11:31.323
  • All the turmoil in our country, all the fighting,
  • 00:11:31.323 --> 00:11:34.093
  • Which hasn't gotten better, it's actually gotten worse.
  • 00:11:34.093 --> 00:11:37.396
  • Can i make a couple of recommendations?
  • 00:11:37.396 --> 00:11:39.865
  • Maybe don't watch the news for hours on end;
  • 00:11:39.865 --> 00:11:43.636
  • Maybe don't spend all your time on twitter
  • 00:11:43.636 --> 00:11:47.039
  • And fighting with people on social media, et cetera.
  • 00:11:47.039 --> 00:11:50.109
  • And i'm not saying don't be uninformed
  • 00:11:50.109 --> 00:11:51.744
  • Because we need to be aware of what's going on,
  • 00:11:51.744 --> 00:11:53.779
  • So we know how to pray intelligently,
  • 00:11:53.779 --> 00:11:56.282
  • But take time to fill your mind with the word of god.
  • 00:11:56.282 --> 00:12:00.786
  • Take time to focus on your relationship with god.
  • 00:12:00.786 --> 00:12:05.691
  • We all know this verse very well that says:
  • 00:12:05.691 --> 00:12:08.394
  • "don't worry about anything; pray about everything and
  • 00:12:08.394 --> 00:12:12.098
  • The peace of god will guard your heart and mind in christ jesus."
  • 00:12:12.098 --> 00:12:15.434
  • Scripture also says that "i will keep him in perfect peace
  • 00:12:15.434 --> 00:12:19.038
  • Whose mind has stayed on thee because he trusteth in thee."
  • 00:12:19.038 --> 00:12:22.908
  • So if you find yourself in turmoil and anguish,
  • 00:12:22.908 --> 00:12:26.112
  • And if you find yourself filled with anxiety,
  • 00:12:26.112 --> 00:12:28.647
  • Put your mind on the lord,
  • 00:12:28.647 --> 00:12:31.183
  • Turn your thoughts toward the lord, fill your life
  • 00:12:31.183 --> 00:12:35.321
  • With the word of god, with worship music,
  • 00:12:35.321 --> 00:12:37.623
  • With good bible teaching.
  • 00:12:37.623 --> 00:12:39.592
  • But listen, look to jesus right now and let's keep praying
  • 00:12:39.592 --> 00:12:43.863
  • For our nation that god's will will be done,
  • 00:12:43.863 --> 00:12:47.466
  • But let's also pray that he will give us personal peace.
  • 00:12:47.466 --> 00:12:51.137
  • Male announcer: "revelation: a book of promises,"
  • 00:12:53.305 --> 00:12:55.574
  • By greg laurie.
  • 00:12:55.574 --> 00:12:56.976
  • Why study revelation?
  • 00:12:56.976 --> 00:12:58.611
  • The word "revelation" means unveiling.
  • 00:12:58.611 --> 00:13:01.347
  • God's desire is to reveal, not conceal.
  • 00:13:01.347 --> 00:13:04.917
  • And this book unveils pictures of the spirit world,
  • 00:13:04.917 --> 00:13:07.753
  • Great cataclysmic events in store for the planet,
  • 00:13:07.753 --> 00:13:10.723
  • And the coming antichrist.
  • 00:13:10.723 --> 00:13:12.925
  • But as greg laurie explains, the primary objective
  • 00:13:12.925 --> 00:13:15.594
  • Of this book isn't to reveal the antichrist.
  • 00:13:15.594 --> 00:13:18.497
  • It's to reveal jesus christ and his soon coming.
  • 00:13:18.497 --> 00:13:22.168
  • "revelation: a book of promises" is designed to help you see
  • 00:13:22.168 --> 00:13:25.671
  • Jesus as the centerpiece, the star,
  • 00:13:25.671 --> 00:13:28.507
  • And the focus of revelation.
  • 00:13:28.507 --> 00:13:30.843
  • With this eminently practical guide, you can experience the
  • 00:13:30.843 --> 00:13:34.180
  • Blessing promised to those who read, hear, and keep the words
  • 00:13:34.180 --> 00:13:38.250
  • Of this prophetic book.
  • 00:13:38.250 --> 00:13:40.019
  • After all, bible prophecy is not given to inflate our brains,
  • 00:13:40.019 --> 00:13:43.823
  • But to enlarge our hearts.
  • 00:13:43.823 --> 00:13:46.759
  • Request "revelation" by greg laurie
  • 00:13:46.759 --> 00:13:48.928
  • When you give today.
  • 00:13:48.928 --> 00:13:50.296
  • Female announcer: jesus says that where two or three are
  • 00:13:52.565 --> 00:13:54.967
  • Gathered in my name, there i am in the midst of them,
  • 00:13:54.967 --> 00:13:59.505
  • And you are welcome here.
  • 00:13:59.505 --> 00:14:03.676
  • This is harvest.
  • 00:14:03.676 --> 00:14:09.481
  • Greg: now, here's what's gonna be asked next.
  • 00:14:13.385 --> 00:14:14.920
  • You already know it.
  • 00:14:14.920 --> 00:14:16.255
  • I don't even have to tell you.
  • 00:14:16.255 --> 00:14:17.590
  • "oh, wait a second."
  • 00:14:17.590 --> 00:14:18.924
  • They act like they dream this question up themself.
  • 00:14:18.924 --> 00:14:22.027
  • "how can a god of love send someone to hell?"
  • 00:14:22.027 --> 00:14:25.297
  • Right.
  • 00:14:25.297 --> 00:14:26.632
  • How many of you heard that question?
  • 00:14:26.632 --> 00:14:28.267
  • Of course, you have.
  • 00:14:28.267 --> 00:14:30.002
  • Okay, here's your answer.
  • 00:14:30.002 --> 00:14:31.837
  • Because he's a god of love and justice, he invented hell.
  • 00:14:31.837 --> 00:14:37.276
  • But know this, hell was not made for people.
  • 00:14:37.276 --> 00:14:41.347
  • Hell was created according to jesus for the devil
  • 00:14:41.347 --> 00:14:44.450
  • And his angels.
  • 00:14:44.450 --> 00:14:46.118
  • If a person ends up in hell, god is, in effect, giving them
  • 00:14:46.118 --> 00:14:51.156
  • What they wanted all along.
  • 00:14:51.156 --> 00:14:53.859
  • C.s. lewis summed it up this way,
  • 00:14:53.859 --> 00:14:55.561
  • "there are two kinds of people in the end,
  • 00:14:55.561 --> 00:14:57.529
  • Those who say to god, thy will be done, and those
  • 00:14:57.529 --> 00:15:00.499
  • To whom god says, in the end, thy will be done."
  • 00:15:00.499 --> 00:15:04.904
  • Lewis concludes, "all that are in hell choose it.
  • 00:15:04.904 --> 00:15:09.008
  • Without that self choice, there could be no hell," end quote.
  • 00:15:09.008 --> 00:15:13.512
  • Timothy keller wrote, quote, "people only get in the
  • 00:15:13.512 --> 00:15:17.549
  • Afterlife what they have most wanted either to have god as
  • 00:15:17.549 --> 00:15:20.886
  • Savior and master or to be their own saviors and masters.
  • 00:15:20.886 --> 00:15:24.390
  • Hell is simply one's freely chosen path going on forever.
  • 00:15:24.390 --> 00:15:29.461
  • We wanted to get away from god, and god, in his infinite
  • 00:15:29.461 --> 00:15:32.264
  • Justice, sends us where we wanted to go," end quote.
  • 00:15:32.264 --> 00:15:37.403
  • See, it's not that god's sending anyone to hell.
  • 00:15:37.403 --> 00:15:40.806
  • It's that you send yourself there because you're living this
  • 00:15:40.806 --> 00:15:44.076
  • Life you want to live without god.
  • 00:15:44.076 --> 00:15:46.779
  • And god's saying, "well, i'm gonna give you that free will
  • 00:15:46.779 --> 00:15:48.814
  • And you can go on.
  • 00:15:48.814 --> 00:15:50.149
  • But listen, you're gonna have to kind of climb over my dead body
  • 00:15:50.149 --> 00:15:53.385
  • To get there because i sent my son jesus christ to die on the
  • 00:15:53.385 --> 00:15:57.823
  • Cross in your place so you don't have to go to this place
  • 00:15:57.823 --> 00:16:01.694
  • Called hell."
  • 00:16:01.694 --> 00:16:03.028
  • Listen, the last thing that god wants is for any man or woman
  • 00:16:03.028 --> 00:16:06.198
  • Made in his image to spend eternity separated from him in
  • 00:16:06.198 --> 00:16:10.202
  • This place called hell.
  • 00:16:10.202 --> 00:16:12.471
  • Greg: i mean, that's really true.
  • 00:16:15.941 --> 00:16:17.276
  • The last thing god wants is for any man or woman, uniquely made
  • 00:16:17.276 --> 00:16:21.146
  • In his image, to spend all eternity in this place
  • 00:16:21.146 --> 00:16:25.084
  • Called hell.
  • 00:16:25.084 --> 00:16:26.752
  • I mean, think about it this way.
  • 00:16:26.752 --> 00:16:28.554
  • Let's say you're walking down the street and you saw a house
  • 00:16:28.554 --> 00:16:30.489
  • Was on fire.
  • 00:16:30.489 --> 00:16:31.824
  • You heard people screaming.
  • 00:16:31.824 --> 00:16:33.993
  • Would you do something to help the people?
  • 00:16:33.993 --> 00:16:35.694
  • I mean, at the very least, would you call 911?
  • 00:16:35.694 --> 00:16:38.797
  • You might even go in the house and try to help somebody, but to
  • 00:16:38.797 --> 00:16:42.034
  • Keep walking, well, that's not just being indifferent, that's
  • 00:16:42.034 --> 00:16:45.604
  • Downright criminal.
  • 00:16:45.604 --> 00:16:47.139
  • See, we've got the message of the gospel, the only message
  • 00:16:47.139 --> 00:16:50.609
  • That can change a person's eternal address from a place
  • 00:16:50.609 --> 00:16:54.246
  • Called hell to a place called heaven.
  • 00:16:54.246 --> 00:16:56.515

  • Would you like christ to come into your life?
  • 00:25:32.931 --> 00:25:35.567
  • If so, why don't you just pray this simple prayer with me?
  • 00:25:35.567 --> 00:25:38.703
  • You can pray it out loud or you can pray it in the quietness of
  • 00:25:38.703 --> 00:25:42.274
  • Your heart, but this is a prayer where you're asking jesus christ
  • 00:25:42.274 --> 00:25:46.077
  • To be your savior and lord.
  • 00:25:46.077 --> 00:25:47.846
  • Pray this with me now.
  • 00:25:47.846 --> 00:25:49.180
  • "lord jesus, i know that i'm a sinner, but i know that you're
  • 00:25:49.180 --> 00:25:53.518
  • The savior who died on the cross for my sin and rose again
  • 00:25:53.518 --> 00:25:58.123
  • From the dead.
  • 00:25:58.123 --> 00:25:59.457
  • Now come into my life.
  • 00:25:59.457 --> 00:26:01.893
  • I choose to follow you from this moment forward.
  • 00:26:01.893 --> 00:26:05.997
  • Thank you for hearing this prayer
  • 00:26:06.064 --> 00:26:08.199
  • And answering this prayer.
  • 00:26:08.199 --> 00:26:10.035
  • In jesus's name, amen."
  • 00:26:10.035 --> 00:26:12.938
  • Did you just pray that prayer with me?
  • 00:26:12.938 --> 00:26:15.140
  • If so, i want you to know in the authority of scripture that
  • 00:26:15.140 --> 00:26:18.209
  • Christ himself has come to live inside of you.
  • 00:26:18.209 --> 00:26:21.479
  • Congratulations and welcome to the family of god.
  • 00:26:21.479 --> 00:26:28.353
  • Male announcer: "revelation: a book of promises,"
  • 00:26:32.390 --> 00:26:34.659
  • By greg laurie.
  • 00:26:34.659 --> 00:26:36.061
  • Why study revelation?
  • 00:26:36.061 --> 00:26:37.696
  • The word "revelation" means unveiling.
  • 00:26:37.696 --> 00:26:40.432
  • God's desire is to reveal, not conceal.
  • 00:26:40.432 --> 00:26:44.002
  • And this book unveils pictures of the spirit world,
  • 00:26:44.002 --> 00:26:46.838
  • Great cataclysmic events in store for the planet,
  • 00:26:46.838 --> 00:26:49.808
  • And the coming antichrist.
  • 00:26:49.808 --> 00:26:52.010
  • But as greg laurie explains, the primary objective
  • 00:26:52.010 --> 00:26:54.679
  • Of this book isn't to reveal the antichrist.
  • 00:26:54.679 --> 00:26:57.582
  • It's to reveal jesus christ and his soon coming.
  • 00:26:57.582 --> 00:27:01.252
  • "revelation: a book of promises" is designed to help you see
  • 00:27:01.252 --> 00:27:04.756
  • Jesus as the centerpiece, the star,
  • 00:27:04.756 --> 00:27:07.592
  • And the focus of revelation.
  • 00:27:07.592 --> 00:27:09.928
  • With this eminently practical guide, you can experience the
  • 00:27:09.928 --> 00:27:13.264
  • Blessing promised to those who read, hear, and keep the words
  • 00:27:13.264 --> 00:27:17.335
  • Of this prophetic book.
  • 00:27:17.335 --> 00:27:19.104
  • After all, bible prophecy is not given to inflate our brains,
  • 00:27:19.104 --> 00:27:22.907
  • But to enlarge our hearts.
  • 00:27:22.907 --> 00:27:25.844
  • Request "revelation" by greg laurie
  • 00:27:25.844 --> 00:27:28.013
  • When you give today.
  • 00:27:28.013 --> 00:27:29.381
