- 00:04:39.424 --> 00:04:44.396

- 00:04:57.242 --> 00:05:01.680
- And that is where the meal of passover came from, to celebrate
- 00:05:01.680 --> 00:05:06.151
- That tenth plague that escaped those who had the faith to put
- 00:05:06.151 --> 00:05:10.589
- The blood on their doorpost and led to the exodus.
- 00:05:10.589 --> 00:05:14.659

- Celebration, the feast of unleavened bread.
- 00:05:18.463 --> 00:05:21.800

- Israelites, "don't only put the blood on the door post of the
- 00:05:25.303 --> 00:05:28.206

- 00:05:43.522 --> 00:05:44.856

- 00:06:40.412 --> 00:06:42.614

- Messiah would be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver, one of the
- 00:09:11.262 --> 00:09:16.534
- Most amazing prophecies you find in scripture anywhere.
- 00:09:16.534 --> 00:09:21.039

- 00:09:21.039 --> 00:09:26.311
- Passover meal.
- 00:09:26.311 --> 00:09:27.679
- Let's look, beginning in verse 7 with the observance that jesus
- 00:09:27.679 --> 00:09:31.316
- Celebrated of the passover: "then came the first day of
- 00:09:31.316 --> 00:09:35.487
- Unleavened bread on which the passover lamb had to
- 00:09:35.487 --> 00:09:39.024
- Be sacrificed."
- 00:09:39.024 --> 00:09:40.358
- We're now at thursday, "and jesus sent peter and john
- 00:09:40.358 --> 00:09:43.862
- Saying, 'go and prepare the passover for us so that we may
- 00:09:43.862 --> 00:09:48.600
- Eat it.'
- 00:09:48.600 --> 00:09:49.968
- And they said to him, 'where do you want us to prepare it?'"
- 00:09:49.968 --> 00:09:54.673
- Now, according to josephus, the jewish historian, there could
- 00:09:54.673 --> 00:09:59.077
- Have been as many as 2.6 million jews in jerusalem.
- 00:09:59.077 --> 00:10:02.380
- Make no mistake about it, jerusalem was very crowded.
- 00:10:02.380 --> 00:10:05.884
- And so if you came to jerusalem as a pilgrim to celebrate
- 00:10:05.884 --> 00:10:08.953
- Passover, the natural question is the one peter asked: "what
- 00:10:08.953 --> 00:10:13.291
- Are we to do to find a place?"
- 00:10:13.291 --> 00:10:15.260
- And notice what he says here.
- 00:10:15.260 --> 00:10:16.861
- Jesus says in verse 10: "go look for a man who will be carrying
- 00:10:16.861 --> 00:10:22.100
- A pitcher of water on his head.
- 00:10:22.100 --> 00:10:24.869
- Follow him to wherever he is going and ask him for a room."
- 00:10:24.869 --> 00:10:30.675
- Of course, all of this was pre-arranged by god.
- 00:10:30.675 --> 00:10:33.411
- And so verse 12 tells us that peter and john found that owner
- 00:10:33.411 --> 00:10:37.782
- And they took him or took them to a large furnished upper room,
- 00:10:37.782 --> 00:10:43.088
- Verse 12 says, where they would prepare the passover.
- 00:10:43.088 --> 00:10:46.925
- Now notice, jesus sent peter and john to make these
- 00:10:46.925 --> 00:10:50.895
- Arrangements secretly.
- 00:10:50.895 --> 00:10:53.565
- He didn't ask all of the apostles to go, just peter
- 00:10:53.565 --> 00:10:56.101
- And john.
- 00:10:56.101 --> 00:10:57.469
- Why is that?
- 00:10:57.469 --> 00:10:58.803
- Because he wanted to keep the location secret from judas.
- 00:10:58.803 --> 00:11:04.309
- Jesus wasn't afraid of dying.
- 00:11:04.309 --> 00:11:06.311
- He didn't want to die prematurely, because he had some
- 00:11:06.311 --> 00:11:09.314
- Important business to take care of before his arrest, his
- 00:11:09.314 --> 00:11:12.183
- Trials, and his crucifixion, and the important business was the
- 00:11:12.183 --> 00:11:15.620
- Passover meal.
- 00:11:15.620 --> 00:11:17.188
- As we'll see in a moment, jesus was gonna use that meal.
- 00:11:17.188 --> 00:11:20.925
- He was gonna transform its meaning to a brand-new meaning.
- 00:11:20.925 --> 00:11:24.262
- It was also during the passover meal, which went several hours,
- 00:11:24.262 --> 00:11:27.532
- That jesus would give one of his most important discourses that
- 00:11:27.532 --> 00:11:30.935
- Is found in john 13 through 16, his final instructions to
- 00:11:30.935 --> 00:11:34.873
- His disciples.
- 00:11:34.873 --> 00:11:36.241
- So it was very important to keep this information away from judas
- 00:11:36.241 --> 00:11:39.744
- Until the last moment.
- 00:11:39.744 --> 00:11:41.813
- Look at verse 13: "and so they departed and they found
- 00:11:41.813 --> 00:11:45.250
- Everything just as he had told them and they prepared
- 00:11:45.250 --> 00:11:50.455
- The passover."
- 00:11:50.455 --> 00:11:51.856
- Now, let's look at the partaking of the meal itself.
- 00:11:51.856 --> 00:11:54.959
- Let me say a word about the significance of this entire
- 00:11:54.959 --> 00:11:58.797
- Passover meal.
- 00:11:58.797 --> 00:12:00.198
- Sometimes we call it the last supper.
- 00:12:00.198 --> 00:12:03.001
- Well, it wasn't the last supper that jesus would have with
- 00:12:03.001 --> 00:12:06.271
- His disciples.
- 00:12:06.271 --> 00:12:07.639
- In his resurrection body for the forty days he was on earth,
- 00:12:07.639 --> 00:12:10.241
- Jesus ate with his disciples numerous times in that brand new
- 00:12:10.241 --> 00:12:13.778
- Body, which leads us to know that in our new bodies, we're
- 00:12:13.778 --> 00:12:17.849
- Gonna be able to eat as well, which is the most thrilling part
- 00:12:17.849 --> 00:12:20.852
- Of heaven for many of you right now, to know that you're gonna
- 00:12:20.852 --> 00:12:23.688
- Be able to eat.
- 00:12:23.688 --> 00:12:25.256
- The real importance of this meal was jesus was gonna transform
- 00:12:25.256 --> 00:12:29.627
- Its meaning.
- 00:12:29.627 --> 00:12:30.962
- For 1300 years, this meal had pointed back to israel's
- 00:12:30.962 --> 00:12:35.967
- Physical deliverance from egypt from--but from this point on,
- 00:12:35.967 --> 00:12:40.505
- Jesus would transform the meaning of this meal to point to
- 00:12:40.505 --> 00:12:43.842
- The spiritual deliverance from sin he would offer us through
- 00:12:43.842 --> 00:12:47.879
- His death on the cross.
- 00:12:47.879 --> 00:12:49.948
- Look at verse 14: "when the hour had come, jesus reclined at the
- 00:12:49.948 --> 00:12:55.119
- Table and the apostles with him."
- 00:12:55.119 --> 00:12:58.957
- He reclined at the table.
- 00:12:58.957 --> 00:13:01.492
- It was normal in a meal like this to have a low
- 00:13:01.492 --> 00:13:04.062
- Setting table.
- 00:13:04.062 --> 00:13:05.430
- And around the table in a horseshoe shape were couches and
- 00:13:05.430 --> 00:13:09.500
- People reclined to eat.
- 00:13:09.500 --> 00:13:10.869
- They would recline on their elbow with one hand, and eat
- 00:13:10.869 --> 00:13:13.838
- With the other hand.
- 00:13:13.838 --> 00:13:15.173
- We find from john 13 and other accounts that at the head of
- 00:13:15.173 --> 00:13:20.645
- That horseshoe shape were two people: the apostle john was to
- 00:13:20.645 --> 00:13:26.618
- The right of jesus in the place of honor.
- 00:13:26.618 --> 00:13:29.988
- Judas was in the second place of honor on the left, as well.
- 00:13:29.988 --> 00:13:34.292
- Look at verse 15, what jesus said.
- 00:13:34.292 --> 00:13:36.261
- "and he said to them, 'i have earnestly desired to eat this
- 00:13:36.261 --> 00:13:40.498
- Passover with you.'"
- 00:13:40.498 --> 00:13:41.833
- Literally in greek: "i have desired with a great desire, to
- 00:13:41.833 --> 00:13:45.904
- Eat this passover with you before i suffer, for i say to
- 00:13:45.904 --> 00:13:49.440
- You, i shall never again eat it until it is fulfilled in the
- 00:13:49.440 --> 00:13:53.645
- Kingdom of god."
- 00:13:53.645 --> 00:13:55.580
- Now that evening, jesus observed the traditional passover meal.
- 00:13:55.580 --> 00:13:59.784
- We call it the seder.
- 00:13:59.784 --> 00:14:02.053
- Some of you have eaten a jewish seder passover meal.
- 00:14:02.053 --> 00:14:07.158
- It's a very complicated meal and it paints a picture of the
- 00:14:07.158 --> 00:14:13.498
- Deliverance israel experienced from egypt, and every element of
- 00:14:13.498 --> 00:14:17.368
- That seder meal is very important.
- 00:14:17.368 --> 00:14:19.637
- Now, what we call the lord's supper where jesus singles out
- 00:14:19.637 --> 00:14:24.275
- Two of these elements to attach a new meaning to them, it
- 00:14:24.275 --> 00:14:28.913
- Occurred between the second and the third cup.
- 00:14:28.913 --> 00:14:33.518
- That's where this takes place.
- 00:14:33.518 --> 00:14:34.852
- Look at verse 19 where jesus takes the bread, after drinking
- 00:14:34.852 --> 00:14:39.223
- The second cup.
- 00:14:39.223 --> 00:14:40.858
- Look at verse 19: "and when he had taken some bread and given
- 00:14:40.858 --> 00:14:46.064
- Thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, 'this is my
- 00:14:46.064 --> 00:14:51.669
- Body which is given for you.
- 00:14:51.669 --> 00:14:54.472
- Do this in remembrance of me.'"
- 00:14:54.472 --> 00:14:58.176
- Now, this bread jesus took was unleavened.
- 00:14:58.176 --> 00:15:02.347
- We talked about one reason for that.
- 00:15:02.347 --> 00:15:05.450
- The leaven was used to make the bread rise.
- 00:15:05.450 --> 00:15:09.320
- And in the exodus experience, they didn't have time to wait
- 00:15:09.320 --> 00:15:12.523
- Around for the rising bread.
- 00:15:12.523 --> 00:15:14.092
- So they didn't leaven it, according to god's instruction.
- 00:15:14.092 --> 00:15:18.363
- But there's another reason that the bread was without leaven.
- 00:15:18.363 --> 00:15:21.599
- In the old testament, leaven represented sin.
- 00:15:21.599 --> 00:15:25.603
- And since this bread ultimately would represent the body of
- 00:15:25.603 --> 00:15:29.273
- Jesus christ, it had to be without leaven, without sin.
- 00:15:29.273 --> 00:15:34.245
- The fact that god's son came in bodily form is foundational to
- 00:15:34.245 --> 00:15:41.019
- The christian faith.
- 00:15:41.019 --> 00:15:42.553
- Jesus wasn't just a spirit like the gnostics believed.
- 00:15:42.553 --> 00:15:46.190
- He wasn't a sanctified casper, the friendly ghost.
- 00:15:46.190 --> 00:15:49.260
- He came in full bodily form.
- 00:15:49.260 --> 00:15:52.530
- That's the essence of the gospel.
- 00:15:52.530 --> 00:15:54.866
- The sacrifice had to come in human form.
- 00:15:54.866 --> 00:15:59.904
- And the bread represents the fact that jesus, the son, was
- 00:15:59.904 --> 00:16:04.609
- Willing to give up the perks and privileges of heaven to take on
- 00:16:04.609 --> 00:16:08.880
- Bodily form, to offer himself as a sacrifice for our sins.
- 00:16:08.880 --> 00:16:13.584
- And so jesus, holding the bread, said, "this is my body which is
- 00:16:13.584 --> 00:16:19.323
- Given for you."
- 00:16:19.323 --> 00:16:22.026
- And then notice, after eating the bread before the third cup,
- 00:16:22.026 --> 00:16:28.099
- Verse 20, he says, "and in the same way, jesus took the cup
- 00:16:28.099 --> 00:16:32.370
- After they had eaten, saying, 'this cup which is poured out
- 00:16:32.370 --> 00:16:36.507
- For you is the new covenant in my blood.'"
- 00:16:36.507 --> 00:16:41.512
- The cup represents the new covenant, the new agreement, the
- 00:16:41.512 --> 00:16:47.018
- New testament, if you will, that means agreement that god has
- 00:16:47.018 --> 00:16:50.621
- Made with man.
- 00:16:50.621 --> 00:16:52.090
- The old testament, the old agreement, was based on works.
- 00:16:52.090 --> 00:16:57.895
- The old testament was very simple.
- 00:16:57.895 --> 00:16:59.630
- God said, "here are my rules, obey them and you'll find favor
- 00:16:59.630 --> 00:17:02.600
- With me, disobey them and you'll be judged by me."
- 00:17:02.600 --> 00:17:05.636
- The only problem was nobody was capable of keeping those
- 00:17:05.636 --> 00:17:08.739
- Endless regulations.
- 00:17:08.739 --> 00:17:10.541
- And so, built within the old covenant was a system of
- 00:17:10.541 --> 00:17:14.345
- Sacrifices that you could offer to atone for, to cover for,
- 00:17:14.345 --> 00:17:18.616
- Your shortcomings.
- 00:17:18.616 --> 00:17:20.318
- But those sacrifices were very limited in their efficacy.
- 00:17:20.318 --> 00:17:25.289
- I mean, if the blood of animals, bulls and goats, could take away
- 00:17:25.289 --> 00:17:28.793
- Sin, why not just offer it one time?
- 00:17:28.793 --> 00:17:31.896
- Why did god have the israelites engage in these
- 00:17:31.896 --> 00:17:34.432
- Endless sacrifices?
- 00:17:34.432 --> 00:17:35.766
- To make them long for that future, once-for-all sacrifice,
- 00:17:35.766 --> 00:17:42.206
- That would forever remove the stain of their sin.
- 00:17:42.206 --> 00:17:45.843
- And that sacrifice would be the sacrifice of jesus, the lamb of
- 00:17:45.843 --> 00:17:49.714
- God who takes away the sin of the world.
- 00:17:49.714 --> 00:17:52.817
- And that's why jesus said, "this cup now represents the new
- 00:17:52.817 --> 00:17:56.487
- Covenant, the new agreement, not based on your works, but based
- 00:17:56.487 --> 00:18:00.424
- On my grace, demonstrated by my blood that has been shed
- 00:18:00.424 --> 00:18:04.795
- For you."
- 00:18:04.795 --> 00:18:06.264
- Jesus, the lamb of god, is the only way any of us can escape
- 00:18:06.264 --> 00:18:10.868
- God's judgment.
- 00:18:10.868 --> 00:18:12.236
- That is the picture in this passover meal: "this is my body,
- 00:18:12.236 --> 00:18:17.542
- This is my blood, which is given for you."
- 00:18:17.542 --> 00:18:21.679
- You know what?
- 00:18:21.679 --> 00:18:23.047
- It's so easy to get lost in this chapter in the chronology of
- 00:18:23.047 --> 00:18:27.919
- Jesus's life, in the details of the seder meal, that we forget
- 00:18:27.919 --> 00:18:32.456
- The real purpose of this entire passage.
- 00:18:32.456 --> 00:18:35.993
- And so, for the last couple of minutes that we have, i wanna
- 00:18:35.993 --> 00:18:39.297
- Point us to the real purpose of the passover meal that's found
- 00:18:39.297 --> 00:18:43.234
- In two words repeated twice in this passage.
- 00:18:43.234 --> 00:18:47.838
- Those words "for you," are a translation of the greek
- 00:18:47.838 --> 00:18:53.811
- Preposition "huper," for.
- 00:18:53.811 --> 00:18:57.915
- Huper, h-u-p-e-r.
- 00:18:57.915 --> 00:19:01.152
- That preposition, huper, can mean for the benefit of, but it
- 00:19:01.152 --> 00:19:07.892
- Can also mean in the place of.
- 00:19:07.892 --> 00:19:11.796
- This is my body which is given in the place of your body.
- 00:19:11.796 --> 00:19:17.635
- This is my blood which has been given in the place of
- 00:19:17.635 --> 00:19:22.073
- Your blood.
- 00:19:22.073 --> 00:19:23.874
- That is one of the most foundational doctrines of
- 00:19:23.874 --> 00:19:26.377
- Christianity: the substitutionary atonement of
- 00:19:26.377 --> 00:19:30.881
- Jesus christ for us.
- 00:19:30.881 --> 00:19:33.150
- Jesus was the sin substitute.
- 00:19:33.150 --> 00:19:36.120
- You know, from the opening pages of the book of genesis, god
- 00:19:36.120 --> 00:19:39.857
- Started teaching mankind that truth, that what we needed was
- 00:19:39.857 --> 00:19:44.295
- A substitute for our sin.
- 00:19:44.295 --> 00:19:46.464
- And to do that, something innocent has to die for those of
- 00:19:46.464 --> 00:19:50.534
- Us who are guilty.
- 00:19:50.534 --> 00:19:52.403
- And of course, all of it pointed to jesus christ, the lamb of god
- 00:19:52.403 --> 00:19:56.240
- Who would take away the sin of the world.
- 00:19:56.240 --> 00:19:59.777
- And so, when jesus said, "this is my body, which is for you,"
- 00:19:59.777 --> 00:20:03.748
- He's saying, "i am sacrificing my body in the place of
- 00:20:03.748 --> 00:20:07.818
- Your body.
- 00:20:07.818 --> 00:20:09.186
- I am spilling my blood in the place of your blood to provide
- 00:20:09.186 --> 00:20:13.758
- That covering for sin."
- 00:20:13.758 --> 00:20:15.926
- You know, reclining around that table that last night at that
- 00:20:15.926 --> 00:20:19.630
- Passover meal, every one, every one of the apostles, needed to
- 00:20:19.630 --> 00:20:24.502
- Hear that message.
- 00:20:24.502 --> 00:20:26.637
- But there were two people who desperately needed to hear
- 00:20:26.637 --> 00:20:30.308
- That message.
- 00:20:30.308 --> 00:20:31.976
- Two men who within just a few hours would sin a terrible sin
- 00:20:31.976 --> 00:20:38.049
- Against jesus.
- 00:20:38.049 --> 00:20:39.884
- Two men who would betray the lord jesus.
- 00:20:39.884 --> 00:20:44.121
- They needed to hear that message of forgiveness.
- 00:20:44.121 --> 00:20:47.425
- One of those men we know well: his name was judas.
- 00:20:47.425 --> 00:20:50.861
- He betrayed the lord for 30 pieces of silver.
- 00:20:50.861 --> 00:20:54.632
- But there was another man there who would also betray the lord.
- 00:20:54.632 --> 00:20:58.836
- His name was peter.
- 00:20:58.836 --> 00:21:01.772
- Within a few hours, peter would leave that upper room and in the
- 00:21:01.772 --> 00:21:06.277
- Courtyard of caiaphas, he would deny even knowing the lord, not
- 00:21:06.277 --> 00:21:10.348
- Once, twice, or--but three times.
- 00:21:10.348 --> 00:21:14.285
- His sin was just as heinous, just as grievous, as that
- 00:21:14.285 --> 00:21:18.189
- Of judas.
- 00:21:18.189 --> 00:21:19.557
- In fact, jesus anticipated the failure of peter and that's
- 00:21:19.557 --> 00:21:23.160
- Exactly what happened, as we'll see next time.
- 00:21:23.160 --> 00:21:26.464
- Peter denied the lord three different times, but he turned
- 00:21:26.464 --> 00:21:31.168
- And found god's forgiveness.
- 00:21:31.168 --> 00:21:33.037
- And within 7 weeks, he was transformed and not just to the
- 00:21:33.037 --> 00:21:36.540
- Leader of the apostles, but to the greatest evangelist the
- 00:21:36.540 --> 00:21:39.477
- World has ever known.
- 00:21:39.477 --> 00:21:41.879
- Two men failed god that night.
- 00:21:41.879 --> 00:21:45.116
- Peter failed and turned toward god and received
- 00:21:45.116 --> 00:21:49.053
- His forgiveness.
- 00:21:49.053 --> 00:21:50.755
- Judas failed god and turned away and rejected that forgiveness.
- 00:21:50.755 --> 00:21:58.662
- What jesus said to both of those men is, "this is my body, this
- 00:21:58.662 --> 00:22:03.701
- Is my blood, which is being offered for you.
- 00:22:03.701 --> 00:22:08.439
- My sacrifice is sufficient to take care of any sin, including
- 00:22:08.439 --> 00:22:14.578
- The sin of denying me."
- 00:22:14.578 --> 00:22:17.515
- And what jesus said that night 2000 years ago, he's saying to
- 00:22:17.515 --> 00:22:21.786
- You right now: "my body, my blood, is being offered not for
- 00:22:21.786 --> 00:22:27.958
- Somebody else.
- 00:22:27.958 --> 00:22:30.127
- It's being offered for you.
- 00:22:30.127 --> 00:22:33.197
- It doesn't matter what you've done, i'm ready to forgive you
- 00:22:33.197 --> 00:22:37.435
- If you will turn to me."
- 00:22:37.435 --> 00:22:39.937
- You say, "pastor, that just couldn't be true.
- 00:22:39.937 --> 00:22:42.440
- You don't know what i've done."
- 00:22:42.440 --> 00:22:45.142
- You're right, i don't know what you've done, but i know what
- 00:22:45.142 --> 00:22:47.344
- Others have done.
- 00:22:47.344 --> 00:22:49.547
- God forgave moses who was guilty of murder.
- 00:22:49.547 --> 00:22:53.651
- God forgave david who was guilty of murder and adultery.
- 00:22:53.651 --> 00:22:58.055
- God forgave paul who was guilty of murder and blasphemy.
- 00:22:58.055 --> 00:23:03.194
- God forgave peter who denied him three times, and god would have
- 00:23:03.194 --> 00:23:07.665
- Forgiven judas had he turned and received that forgiveness.
- 00:23:07.665 --> 00:23:12.203
- And god is willing to forgive you as well.
- 00:23:12.203 --> 00:23:15.873
- "this is my body.
- 00:23:15.873 --> 00:23:18.509
- This is my blood which is given for you."
- 00:23:18.509 --> 00:23:26.150
- Jeffress: someone is listening to me at this very moment who's
- 00:23:30.354 --> 00:23:33.023
- Ready to take this first step of faith, to follow god's
- 00:23:33.023 --> 00:23:36.327
- Prompting, and say yes to his invitation.
- 00:23:36.327 --> 00:23:40.364
- God is standing before you with open arms and he's ready
- 00:23:40.364 --> 00:23:43.968
- To forgive if you are only willing to ask.
- 00:23:43.968 --> 00:23:47.805
- Not long ago, i heard from a friend named oscar who listens
- 00:23:47.805 --> 00:23:51.275
- To "pathway to victory" on his commute to work every day.
- 00:23:51.275 --> 00:23:55.179
- He wrote, "i've begun to thank god daily for his forgiveness
- 00:23:55.179 --> 00:23:59.016
- Through his son.
- 00:23:59.016 --> 00:24:00.484
- It's because of what i learned in one of your teaching series.
- 00:24:00.484 --> 00:24:03.954
- I was searching for guidance and your study brought me to tears.
- 00:24:03.954 --> 00:24:08.359
- 'pathway to victory' has become god's answer for me."
- 00:24:08.359 --> 00:24:12.897
- Well, thank you for those encouraging words, oscar.
- 00:24:12.897 --> 00:24:15.866
- And let me add, when you support "pathway to victory," or become
- 00:24:15.866 --> 00:24:19.270
- A pathway partner, you become the channel through which god
- 00:24:19.270 --> 00:24:22.740
- Reaches men and women like oscar and so many others.
- 00:24:22.740 --> 00:24:26.644
- So thank you for helping us pierce the darkness of our day
- 00:24:26.644 --> 00:24:31.148
- With the only hope of the world,
- 00:24:31.148 --> 00:24:33.584
- That is the gospel of jesus christ.
- 00:24:33.584 --> 00:24:36.654
- Now stay right there.
- 00:24:36.654 --> 00:24:38.055
- I'll be back with more "pathway to victory" in just a moment.
- 00:24:38.055 --> 00:24:41.759
- Jeffress: we know that easter is much more than chocolate bunnies
- 00:24:44.695 --> 00:24:47.498
- And easter eggs.
- 00:24:47.498 --> 00:24:48.832
- Easter celebrates the most important event in all
- 00:24:48.832 --> 00:24:51.302
- Of human history.
- 00:24:51.302 --> 00:24:53.304
- Announcer: in "the power of the cross," dr. robert jeffress
- 00:24:53.304 --> 00:24:56.106
- Retraces the steps of jesus each day of holy week, from bethany
- 00:24:56.106 --> 00:25:00.477
- To jerusalem to calvary and to the empty tomb.
- 00:25:00.477 --> 00:25:05.115
- Jeffress: through his incredible sacrifice, jesus conquered sin
- 00:25:05.115 --> 00:25:08.285
- And death once and for all.
- 00:25:08.285 --> 00:25:10.421
- And this beautifully illustrated book provides a trustworthy and
- 00:25:10.421 --> 00:25:14.325
- Approachable way to share the good news with someone you love.
- 00:25:14.325 --> 00:25:19.597
- Announcer: "the power of the cross" is a full-color, 96-page
- 00:25:19.597 --> 00:25:23.100
- Large-print book filled with imagery from the holy land and
- 00:25:23.100 --> 00:25:26.770
- Photographic depictions of key scriptural events that bring
- 00:25:26.770 --> 00:25:30.307
- Holy week to life.
- 00:25:30.307 --> 00:25:32.710
- Request "the power of the cross" when you give a generous gift
- 00:25:32.710 --> 00:25:35.980
- To "pathway to victory."
- 00:25:35.980 --> 00:25:37.781
- And as you give $75 or more,
- 00:25:37.781 --> 00:25:40.851
- We'll also receive
- 00:25:40.851 --> 00:25:42.753
- Eight powerful messages
- 00:25:42.753 --> 00:25:44.521
- By dr. jeffress from the holy land
- 00:25:44.521 --> 00:25:46.156
- On dvd and mp3 format audio disc.
- 00:25:46.156 --> 00:25:49.793
- It's called "live from israel."
- 00:25:49.793 --> 00:25:52.529
- Thank you for partnering with "pathway to victory" to share
- 00:25:52.529 --> 00:25:55.899
- The life-changing truth of the gospel this easter season.
- 00:25:55.899 --> 00:25:59.970
- Together, we are proclaiming the radical, transforming power
- 00:25:59.970 --> 00:26:03.807
- Of the cross of christ,
- 00:26:03.807 --> 00:26:05.643
- The only hope for our beloved
- 00:26:05.643 --> 00:26:07.378
- Country and world.
- 00:26:07.378 --> 00:26:10.347
- Jeffress: the lord's supper reminds us of jesus's
- 00:26:14.418 --> 00:26:17.254
- Ultimate sacrifice.
- 00:26:17.254 --> 00:26:18.856
- And every time we eat the bread and drink from the cup, we're
- 00:26:18.856 --> 00:26:22.292
- Clearly reminded of christ's broken body and his blood
- 00:26:22.292 --> 00:26:26.430
- Spilled for us.
- 00:26:26.430 --> 00:26:28.565
- Well, nobody is perfect and the people in our lives will
- 00:26:28.565 --> 00:26:31.902
- Inevitably disappoint us.
- 00:26:31.902 --> 00:26:34.171
- But perhaps the deepest hurt of all comes when somebody we love
- 00:26:34.171 --> 00:26:38.642
- Breaks our trust.
- 00:26:38.642 --> 00:26:40.177
- Next time we'll look at the shocking moment when jesus was
- 00:26:40.177 --> 00:26:43.614
- Betrayed by one of his closest companions.
- 00:26:43.614 --> 00:26:46.850
- Stay tuned for a preview of what's coming up next in our
- 00:26:46.850 --> 00:26:49.620
- Series, "the power of the cross."
- 00:26:49.620 --> 00:26:52.389
- Jeffress: the psalmist said, "sorrow endures the night, but
- 00:26:54.291 --> 00:27:00.330
- Joy comes in the morning."
- 00:27:00.330 --> 00:27:03.233
- There is something about night time, something about the
- 00:27:03.233 --> 00:27:06.670
- Darkness, that intensifies whatever struggle
- 00:27:06.670 --> 00:27:10.474
- We're experiencing.
- 00:27:10.474 --> 00:27:12.943
- Today, we're going to look at the longest night in jesus's
- 00:27:12.943 --> 00:27:16.914
- Entire life.
- 00:27:16.914 --> 00:27:19.216
- Announcer: set your dvr and join
- 00:27:19.216 --> 00:27:20.651
- Us next time for the message,
- 00:27:20.651 --> 00:27:22.052
- "the longest night,"
- 00:27:22.052 --> 00:27:23.387
- Here on "pathway to victory."
- 00:27:23.387 --> 00:27:28.225
